Anakin was missing! Obi-Wan had specifically told him not to go outside the Temple without an adult! And now, he did precisely what Obi-Wan had told him not to; he went outside the Temple without an adult! He’s a 10-year-old boy, who has only had one year at the Temple, out in Coruscant all alone.
Force, at this rate, he’s going to be growing grey hairs at 20 something!
“Master Obi!” A female Togrutan child frantically runs up to him. Obi-Wan calms down a bit and gets on his knee.
“Yes, dear one?” Obi-Wan prompts.
“If you’re looking for Ani, I saw him get picked up in a speeder with a guy in a black robe.” Ahsoka states, her big wide eyes peering up at Obi-Wan. Even at six, she is still so tiny.
Obi-Wan’s mind immediately goes to the worst situation possible. Oh, my Force, Anakin was kidnapped! I’m a horrible Master! “Thank you, ‘Soka.” Obi-Wan manages to say steadily. “You should go back to your clanmates, little one.”
“Okay. But you’ll get him back, right? He’s fun to play with.” Ahsoka questions, and Obi-Wan briefly smiles.
“Of course, little one.” Ahsoka nods and runs of to join her agemates.
“Uh, there are so many place Anakin could be!” Obi-Wan mumbles, and then his eyes widen. “I’ll ask the Chancellor for help; he’s always so fond of the boy.” Obi-Wan rushes out of the Temple and into his own speeder.
He arrives there and, to his surprise, sees Anakin, his back facing him, and a man in a dark robe. That must be the kidnapper, that child-stealer.
He puts on his hood and walks to catch up with them, not quickly, though, as he doesn’t want to alert the kidnapper. The man lifts up his hand, and Obi-Wan has to act now. What if the man hurts his child? He is taking no risks.
Before the man can move his hand down, Obi-Wan ignites his saber and jumps over to the man, cutting him down. Anakin screams. Obi-Wan looks at him, confused and then looks at the man’s body; he screams. The guard next to the door screams as he tackles Obi-Wan to the ground.
“Knight Kenobi, would you like to tell us why you killed the Chancellor?” Mace tiredly asks as he at Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan and Anakin were in the middle of the Council’s chambers. Obi-Wan in handcuffs and two Senate guards behind him.
“Well, um.” Obi-Wan fidgets with his hands. “You see, my padawan left the Temple without adult supervision, so I was looking for him. And then Initiate Tano came to me and sad that a man in a black robe picked Anakin up in his speeder. So, I immediately thought that he was kidnapped.” Obi-Wan takes a breath. “I then went to the Senate, thinking of asking the Chancellor for help in locating my padawan, but then I saw Anakin and a man in a black robe.
I was going to make him surrender peacefully first, but then the man raised his hand, and I thought he would hurt my padawan, so I quickly killed. Of course, not realizing that the man was the Chancellor the whole time.” Obi-Wan says, his cheeks red in embarrassment.
“Is this true, Padawan Skywalker? You were with the Chancellor, and he picked you up from the Temple?” Mace asks, and Anakin nods.
“Yes, Master Windu. He wanted to spend time with me.” Anakin states.
“Did you ask your Master if you could go?” Mace asks and Anakin shakes his head.
“No, Master Windu. He didn’t like me visiting him, so he would have said no. But I should have asked for permission first.” Anakin reasons. Your Master has good instincts, then. Mace thinks.
“I see.” Mace says and then sighs. “You do understand, though, that the Senate wants to try you for murder, Knight Kenobi?” Anakin stands closer to Obi-Wan defensively.
“Wait,” Plo holds up his hand. “The Chancellor never contacted you, Kenobi? Saying that he was taking out your Padawan or anything like that?”
“No, Master Koon. I was completely unaware.” Obi-Wan responds.
“In that case, it technically is a kidnapping.” Plo states and the Council whispers to each other.
“Are you sure of this, Master Koon?” Depa asks.
“I am sure. And with this, Obi-Wan killed him in defense of his Padawan. And we all know that when we takes a Padawan, we put their utmost safety first.” Plo states. “In conclusion, then, everything Knight Kenobi did, was correct. And I have no doubt that Padawan Skywalker will be cared for in his care due to Kenobi’s actions today. Therefore, the charges will be dropped, and the Council shall explain everything that has transpired to the Senate.” Plo waves his hands, and the cuffs fly off Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan rubs his wrists.
“Thank you, Master Koon.” Obi-Wan bows respectfully.
“Of course, young one.” Plo kindly says. “Now I suggest you and Anakin go and settle down, Force knows this day must be terrifying for the both of you.” Obi-Wan nods and bows again before motioning for Anakin to leave with him. Before the door shuts, Plo can see Anakin grab Obi-Wan’s hand as they walk.
The Senate guards leave as well.
“Master Koon, as correct as you were. You didn’t discuss your decision with the Council.” Mundi states.
“Yes, but I didn’t hear any disagreements.” Plo states and stands up. He then leaves the Council Chamber.
After a moment of silence, Yoda cackles.
