Chapter Text
The forest contains many secrets; homes for birds, squirrels and raccoons in the trees, flowers to give supply to hummingbirds and buzzing bumblebees, a long river with fish for bears and fresh water for all living creatures.
The weather mainly stayed the same through all seasons, getting just a little cold during autumn and winter, rarely getting lots of snow.
Humans lived here, of course, some lived on their own, while others lived in communities.
This isn’t the case with Dream, he decided to live alone after some disagreements with his friends. He was doing good! Understand his situation, he has a place to live, enough resources and good company, if the occasional raccoon peeking at his window counted as the company of course.
His friends wanted to join a community that had been growing significantly just because of what? Weapons that breathe fire? No thank you, he already had good weapons and was happy with his home the way it was.
He just wanted all of his friends together again, was that too much to ask?
...
It was.
The blond had his episodes of range of course, times where he had to isolate himself because he thought he was too dangerous for himself and other living creatures, he’s just… not himself.
He could picture perfectly the expression on Sapnap’s and George’s faces the first time that happened. He already lived alone, so that little incident almost killed both of his friends.
Right now he was just checking on his little farm; the vegetables were good, the apples looked juicy, and his animals were in good shape, nothing unusual for spring. He passed a hand through his blond with white streaks hair after putting the bucket with food for his horse, the stallion huffed after his food was within its reach. Dream only smiled before the sight of what had been his life for quite a while now, he was proud of the improvement he had after the incident, and he was most grateful to someone for that.
So, it was kind of a lie saying he was alone, with the company of a raccoon from time to time. He had a friend he still trusted, but he didn’t live close, and the only thing he could give was information through different mechanisms, sometimes it would be a pigeon, other times it would be a sealed bottle coming down the river, etc. Just the most recent news of what was happening in the “nations” that were being raised.
His favourite company was someone he wasn’t even supposed to see, at least that’s what he understands by mortal-spirit relationships. He knew that forest spirits were there to protect the forest and its inhabitants, never showing themselves to human beings. The thing with calling themselves “spirits” was probably to not call themselves gods or deities, something more humble probably.
But, this spirit “broke” the rules. He said it was fine and no harm would come to them, that the ‘Crow father’ said it was okay. To be completely honest, Dream barely knew a few of the spirits of what his friend had taught him and what his Papa Puffy had told him when he was little.
A few droplets of water fell on his nape, making him jump a little because of the feeling. Speaking of…
“Oi! Teletubby!”
The blond turned to see his good friend, smaller by a few inches, with long braided hair, red marks on his face, and robes that at the very beginning, he thought would reveal more than it was meant to show.
“Techno! Is good to see you! What brings the most powerful spirit to my humble home?”
“Shhh! Tommy will hear you…”
A chuckle escaped his lips, of course, he would hear, for what Techno had told him, Tommy was the spirit of small animals. It explained the raccoon, he was just hoping it wasn’t always the young spirit in disguise.
The shorter one sat at the railing of his porch, white irises locking with his green ones, without a single word it was clear that his presence was required right by the other’s side, not 10 feet away.
“I’m surprised you still have that mask of yours, I thought it would stay in a chest after our last meeting.”
“Don’t be dramatic, this is not for you, and you know that.”
The spirit opened his arms towards him, an invitation for a hug, and, of course, he went for it.
“I’ve missed you…”
“You know where I live Techno, you will always be welcome in my humble home.”
“I know… It’s just been a tough morning, and I wanted to see my favourite Teletubby before dealing with today.”
“We’re taking one day at a time, relax.” One of his hands massaged the back of the spirit while the other massaged the others’ scalp, hearing a heavy exhale from the latter. “You are such a big baby.”
“Shut. Up.” The spirit chuckled at the way the human stared cooing at him. It seemed so weird the short time they’ve met each other, it seemed like it was just yesterday that they met.
