February 28

Summary:

He had only leaned to check the temperature of Light's forehead, alarmed when he heard that he was feeling unwell, when he, he had—
''You kissed me.'' He blurted out, way too directly, feeling his face heat up in the instant he said it out loud.
''I did.''

Happy birthday to Light Yagami!

Work Text:

Mikami blinked once, twice, trying to process what the hell had just happened. He had one knee pressed against the couch where Light was laying down, with a playful smile looking amused, in contrast with Mikami's awestruck expression. He had only leaned to check the temperature of Light's forehead, alarmed when he heard that he was feeling unwell, when he, he had—

''You kissed me.'' He blurted out, way too directly, feeling his face heat up in the instant he said it out loud.

''I did.''

How could Light be so calm about it, when Mikami felt his chest about to burst? Was it just natural for a God like him, maybe? Actually, Mikami didn't want to follow that unpleasant train of thought. It didn't matter right now.

After watching a paralyzed Mikami for a bit, Light exhaled a chuckle, sitting up. ''I'm not actually ill, I just wanted to rest for a while but didn't feel like going home. I couldn't let the chance pass me when I bumped into you.''

So, he had lied? ''He has no need to lie to me, though. If he of all people says he wants to come to my house, I should be the one asking. It almost feels like a blasphemy that he did as much as stepping into my living room.'' Ah, Mikami was getting distracted again, and Light noticed before Mikami himself. It was really entertaining to see a calm and calculating man like him get so easily nervous and flustered, and Light enjoyed knowing that he was the only one who saw that side of him. It was almost cute.

''Mikami.'' He softly cooed to him, following the bubbling feeling inside him from staring at Mikami's nervousness. ''Do you want me to kiss you again? You still look like you have seen a ghost.''

''Ah—'' He gasped, trying to find the right words, anything to say, and stuttering through them. ''I-I, yes, if that's fine, I w-would—''

His words were interrupted by the soft press of Light's lips against his. It was a gentle kiss, but it also shook him entirely to his core, making his heart pound in his ears. Light's hands softly scooped Mikami's nape, tangling dark strands of hair between his slender fingers. Whenever their lips parted away, Light quickly leaned in for another kiss, one, two, three. And every time he did, Mikami's fingertips trembled against the couch, still trying to support his body that felt like it could collapse at any second.

His mind was full of questions, he wanted to know why was Light doing that, why was he making him so insanely happy when he had done nothing to deserve it. But right now, that didn't matter, not when his God was pushing his tongue into his mouth, making his breath hitch and his arms wrap around Light's shoulders almost unconsciously. They were getting bolder and bolder, to the point where Mikami wondered if this was fine, but no matter what he thought, Light wasn't letting go , pressing their bodies together as much as possible, hands holding Mikami's head close to thoroughly make out with him.

It felt really nice, it was intense and made his skin burn, but the sliding of their tongues was also extremely loving. Mikami found himself following the flow and kissing him back, sighing against Light's lips, thinking of how absolutely perfect the man under him was. He never wanted that moment to end, he wanted to keep it close to his heart forever, and knew he would treasure the memory until the day of his death.

After who knows how long, Light gently tugged on Mikami's hair to breathe , a trail of spit connecting their mouths for a second. Mikami could have sworn he had never seen such a beautiful sight. Light's cheeks were red -although probably less than his own-, hair just a bit messy, and lips glistening, slightly swollen red. Had Mikami kissed him that roughly without realizing? He didn't have the time to get anxious about it, because Light was chuckling again, almost giggling in a way Mikami would have never expected from him, light-hearted and a bit child-like. ''What's up with that expression, Mikami? There's no need to cry, is it? Did it make you that happy?''

Mikami hadn't even realized it until then, but he was right— his eyes were teary for some reason. He quickly wiped them, embarrassed to let Light see him like that. ''Ah, I'm sorry, I-I just, you looked so pretty and I'm so happy and, and my heart was going crazy…'' It still was, he could still pretty much feel it hammering in his chest restlessly.

''Shh, calm down. I'm not going anywhere anytime soon, so relax.'' His hand gently brushed Mikami's cheek, only making more tears appear on his eyes and getting another laugh from Light. It was contagious, and Mikami also chuckled, continuously wiping his eyes. ''Mikami, do you know what day is today?''

''T-Today…? It's February 28, isn't it? Is there anything special about today?''

''Well, there's no way you could know… Today is my birthday. That's why I felt like following my whims a bit, and came here to spend some time with you. I've been wanting to do this for a while, but it's never the right time, and it's too risky for me to meet up with people just like that.''

''H-Huh?! F-For a while…? No, that's not important, it's your birthday, God…? Ahh, if I had known I'd have prepared something fancy, I'm really sorry…'' Luckily, Mikami always kept his house extremely clean, but that simply wasn't enough, it wasn't worthy of a God like him, and it was even worse on such a special date. He should have investigated that much, could he really call himself his biggest supporter like that?

''No, there's no need to apologize, I never told you after all. But now that you know… do you mind indulging me a bit more?'' Light smiled a bit, and it took Mikami a few seconds to understand what he meant. When he did, his face turned red again, and he nodded insistently.

''O-Of course! Anything you want, God!''

Light was right, Mikami was really cute, and his eagerness and devotion only made him better, perfect for him. He would never regret choosing him from all people, Mikami was the right one, definitely. The best one to use, and also the only one who could make him feel like that, stirring his insides with the need to kiss him again, to touch him more. ''Thank you, Mikami.'' He whispered, again leaning to continue what he had started.
