Chapter 1: A pixie's heart can make a curse

Chapter Text

It was one of those days again. Amity liked school, the feeling of acquiring knowledge, feeling smart, feeling like she was better than everyone else, fulfilling expectations, being on the top, getting good marks, it made her excited, it filled her with so much dopamine, that she could honestly consider herself a happy girl everytime it was Monday again.

But although all of the bullet points mentioned above are positive for her, there's one playing big against all of those. She despised people.
Not everyone, of course, just some who she seemed to think were enough for her to make a such a big generalization.

Amity used to have friends when she was younger, during her childhood she was friends with Willow Park, but her mother ruined it for her, so the friendship had long ago faded into strangeness.

Odalia Blight had later, found her some 'new, better, more suitable' friends for her. Enter, Boscha Herbstwald and Co. Amity soon realized what a stupid idea her mother had had.
Not only because Boscha was insufferable, but because her mother was too.

Odalia Blight and Miss Herbstwald were wrapped up in a childish rivalry ever since they were young, so now that they had children of their own, they had found a way to maintain that rivalry up as ever, which was by seeing who's daughter was better at basically anything and everything.

Her mother had lots of bad ideas, but this was one of the worst, because it made Amity suffer by having to spend her time with the most irritable girl in the whole island. Boscha complained about every little thing that crossed her mind was it people or actual things, you name it, she would complain.

Boscha had gone as far as to bullying former best friend, Willow. It made her sick to her stomach the sole idea of taking part in it, however, as smart as Amity was, she had encountered something she couldn't find an answer to: How to stop the situation.

One certain day, a couple of months ago from where we're set now, Amity had started to feel sick, but as a Blight, she couldn't give herself the pleasure to stay at home and recover. So her head ached, the school's noise which she was already used to, had become unbearable to hear, and then there was Boscha. Boscha, with her annoying voice, the way she spoke like she was almighty, like she knew everything. It was irritable, it made her want to rip her own eardrums off.

And she realized a little too late what she had done, the moment in which everyone around her stopped on their tracks to look in astonishment. Maybe and only maybe, she had fucked up.
But she had taken a lot from her, and she wasn't in the mood to take even more.

So, when she saw Boscha's hand getting too close to Willow's face, and the way the shorter girl flinched at the imminent hit, her reflexes acted before her senses could, grabbing her supposed 'friend' by the wrist, and with questionable strength, pushing her away from them.

''What the fuck is wrong with you, Blight?'' Was the one thing that came out of the pink-haired, and there right there, was when she processed how bad she had messed up.

This, as it couldn't be in any other way, came with a negative effect from her own mother. But she still though she caught a glimpse of proudness in Odalia's eyes as she heard the news of the fight with the youngest Herbstwald. In her mother's mind, this could only prove that the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree after all.

This bring us back to the present. The fight brought it's own consequences in Amity's social life, she no longer had a group of friends, no matter how stupid and unsupportive they were. At Hexside (and probably in every other school in the Isle), being a loner meant being an outcast, which was often associated with being a failure.

But take Luz Clawthorne as an example, she had a group of friends, and yet she was a failure.

Alright, maybe that sounded a little too mean.
But to Amity, Luz was like the antichrist, she represented everything Amity was not. Luz reminded her of Boscha in some aspects though, for example, she was annoying.
It was also the great ability that the human held to ruin her day constantly what made her despise her.

As Head of the Student's Council (a very important role if you asked her, given by her own teachers and principal), Amity recognized good and bad students quickly, and there was not a single thing about Luz that made her think she fitted the first type.

She was always late during their classes (she had the disgrace of being in the same common course as her, therefore, they were classmates for half of the subjects along with Boscha, Skara, and Willow, and they were also sharing the Abomination track's subjects, so, full on 24/7 classmates), she never wore the uniform correctly, she was always on her scroll chatting with her friends, and when she wasn't, she was either doodling or sleeping.
However, as far as she knew, Luz had never failed a class.
She probably blackmailed the teachers, there was no other way.

And how did Amity knew all of this?
Well, for educational purposes, since she is the head of the student's council and all of that.

But Luz didn't only annoy her by being a bad student, no, she was annoying because she wanted to be. She had probably set a personal goal to ruin Amity's life at every given chance.

She liked to argue with her in every single opportunity, to question her and her decisions, to bother her, and recently, she had discovered a great way to make Amity feel completely mad: Being flirty with her.
Amity could only tolerate so much, and she was afraid that one of those days, she would go berserk and end up comitting homicide, arson, or something like that against the human.
As deserved as it could be, Amity didn't feel like going to prison any time soon.

So, back to the beginning, in summary:
It was one of those days again, even if she liked going to school, people could be annoying, Luz Clawthorne was annoying.

'Hey Blight, where are we going?'' Asked the human laying a hand on Amity's shoulder, who was about to snap at her.

''Do not touch me ever again. And 'we' are not going anywhere, I am going to give the Fall's speech, and you can go to steal something, or whatever it is that you do while you skip classes.''

''Ouch, do you really think of me as a thief? You're hurting me, Ams. I'll let you know that I don't skip classes, in fact I'm always there, you're just too busy being the teacher's pet to notice.''

''Do you ever shut up? You should consider doing it sometimes, really.'' Amity started to walk faster while looking at the other girl's eyes, it felt as if it was a silent battle and she was not going to lose it anytime soon.

Nevertheless, you should never look away from where you're walking, and that's something Amity might have forgotten.

''Amity Blight, are you stupid?! Wait a minute, of course you are, I don't even know why I bother asking when the answer is crystal clear. Look what you just did, you moron''

Two pairs of eyes went from looking at each other, to looking at the pink-haired's t-shirt, which was covered in what seemed to be apple blood.

''Oh, oops?'' The mint-haired shrugged, the action was followed by a snort from the girl next to her.

''Ugh, you are so dead. You are going to pay for all this nonsense one of this days, you here me?''

''Sure Boscha, whenever You want''

Amity couldn't care any less, to be honest, so she return to doing what she was doing before the inconvenient, walking towards the school's amphitheater. She looked at her clock and sighed in relief when she realized she still had plenty of time left to arrive and revise her notes for the welcoming speech. She had around 20 minutes, lots of things could be done in under that time.

''Dude, she's so annoying, how did you manage to be her friend for so many years?'' She flinched when hearing the voice, she was so concentrated in mentally revising her speech and arriving to the amphitheater that she forgot about the second presence.

''Ugh, you are still here? Don't you have anything better to do?''

''I mean, not really, but I'd love to hear your amazing speech, Miss president.''

She was going to kill herself one of these days.

''That's it, we are here, go away, go look for your friends or something, I could not care any less, but for Titan's sake, just stop bothering me.'' Amity looked at the brunette with a fire in her eyes that could only show how much anger she was retaining.

''Gee, okay Blight, I just wanted to talk to you, I'll go.'' Luz raised her hands in surrender, only to place them in her old jacket a moment after. She gave her a last glance before she turned to the other way, looking for her friends.

Amity sighed, finally entering the room, and mentally prepared herself for the big moment in front of the whole school.

On the other side of the school, a pink haired girl was cursing and muttering in whispers while searching for something in an old book.

''Here it is, quick Eileen, close the door, we can't have anyone finding out about this. Skara, I need you to hand me that silver dust over there, you see it?''
The bard student did as told, and with innocent curiosity, asked:

''What is this?''

''A pixie's heart'' Said Boscha, simply, followed by skara screaming and throwing the silver dust on the table.

''Boscha, this is disgusting, oh my Titan, I can't believe I touched it!''

The potion student let out a snort, and started to mix the previously recollected ingredients.

''Well, this is it, Amity is going to be publicly embarrassed by this, and every single time she even dares to make fun of me, to argue with me, to bother me, she won't be able to. Because every single time, I'll remind her that Amity Blight humiliated herself in front of the whole school. She'll be lucky if she gets to keep her HSC position."

Once the potion was done, they ran towards the amphitheater, they didn't have much time left until Amity began her discourse, and if they didn't hurry up, the whole plan would be thrown away into the trash.

Only two minutes were left when they finally made it there.

'Okay Skara, it's your turn, since you're the treasurer of the council, you being near her won't look as weird as if I did it. Remember, you take the dust and spread it on her nape discreetly, otherwise she'll realize and we'll be in trouble. But be extremely careful to do it on her nape, or else, it'll have a different result according to the book. We need this to be an out of consciousness potion, it lasts for about thirty seconds only, but that should be enough to embarrass herself. Good luck''

Skara ran towards Amity as the crowd began to sit on the many places the room offered.

''Sorry Amity, I'm late'' Although Amity's and Boscha's relationship was difficult, Skara and her held a certain friendliness, mostly because of politeness, but also because none of them had a particular reason to dislike each other.

"No problem, when the students end sitting, I will go and talk." She lightly smiled to her, and Skara smiled back, but hers was filled with nervousness.

Her eyes caught Boscha's, and her friend gave her a reassuring nod, which she seconded.
She took a deep breath and closed her eyes in order to calm herself for a little bit.

As she heard Principal's Bump voice introducing Amity, she confirmed she didn't have much time left to spare.

"Well, that's my cue to go."

"Good luck, Amity" Skara placed her hand full of potion on the witch's nape, disguised as a form of support.

What she didn't notice though, was Amity's hand on her nape a moment later, and then, rubbing it onto her neck and cheeks while cheering herself.

She stepped up, each second closer to the mic.
Each second closer to embarrassing herself.

The mint-haired witch let out a breath from her lips before smiling, and with her sweet yet almost deep voice, she announced for the whole school to hear:

"I'm in love with Luz Clawthorne."

Silence.

The whole room was in silence.

About thirty seconds later, she gave into consciousness again.

Wait, what did she just say?
