Work Text:

All Pro Heroes had fostering licenses. It was a requirement, as they often had to temporarily take in orphans from villain fights until the police could track down family members. Aizawa Shouta really needed a new house now, he decided, as he stared at the purple-haired child who had been dropped off ten minutes ago.

Shinsou Hitoshi, they had said his name is. His quirk: Brainwashing. Apparently, his last foster family couldn't handle him having a "villainous" quirk anymore. Shouta nearly rolled his eyes at that. No quirk was villainous, just like no quirk was heroic. If anything, it was talking about children like that that created villains.

The first thing Shouta did was remove the muzzle from the 8-year-old and lay down the ground rules. No use of quirks unless he gets permission from Shouta himself (a rule instated after the sixth time he caught Keigo and Dabi fighting within the first month of adopting the younger teen). Ask permission before leaving the house, and a tracker must be on him at all times.

The second thing he did was set up a spare futon in his room. Dabi and Keigo's room was already crowded with just those two, and he knew that placing a foster child in the same room as the two rambunctious boys was likely not the best move - especially with how the boy flinched whenever either of the other two yelled, or grew smaller when Shouta raised his voice slightly to call to them to settle down before something broke.

The last thing he did was pull out his laptop.

He and Hizashi had been talking about moving in together for a while now, anyways. With three boys living in his house, a bigger house and his boyfriend living there to help out couldn't hurt.

(Besides, Hizashi basically lived in his apartment anyways, with how often he showed up unannounced and stayed in Shouta's apartment until he ran out of laundry).

While everyone was busy packing and preparing to move, Shouta noticed more about Hitoshi and grew more concerned by the day. Hitoshi rarely spoke, instead using JSL or writing. He seemed surprised and fearful when Keigo was, at one point, practically begging him to show him his quirk - even more so when Shouta assured Hitoshi that he was allowed to use it on Keigo to show him.

That was the only time he used it, and he started crying and apologizing after. It took Shouta an hour to calm the child down.

Finally, the week after they had moved into the new house - a nice four-bedroom townhouse, with a big enough backyard for Dabi and Keigo to practice with their quirks - Shouta knew it was time to have a long overdue conversation with the youngest family member.

"Hitoshi," he spoke carefully as he approached his newest child. The youngest looked up from his book in confusion. "I was thinking...I don't know what happened at your previous foster homes, but I can see it hurt you. If you want, I know someone who you can talk to about what happened?" he paused, gauging his reaction. Hitoshi still looked confused, and Shouta took it as a sign to continue. "He's a therapist...a doctor for feelings. You can play games there and talk to him about whatever you want. Stuff that happened when you were younger, school, or even how you feel about being here. You don't even have to tell me what happens there."

Hitoshi gave an apprehensive look and started signing. I..won't get in trouble?

He felt like crying. "No, Hitoshi. Nothing you do or say will get you in trouble. Hiazhi and I have both gone to Therapy, and Keigo's in Therapy right now."

The child's eyes brightened at the mention of three people he knows having gone to therapy. At his nod, Shouta smiled and let him go back to reading, watching silently.

He only stood at the sound of yelling from the teenagers. With an exasperated sigh, Shouta stood up and made his way upstairs, grabbing his capture weapon for the winged teen on his way.

He probably owed Cementoss an entire, all expenses paid, vacation from how often the other teacher was fixing his walls in the past seven months.

Through all the good and bad, Shouta could never bring himself to regret taking in his three kids. Between Hizashi already filing the adoption forms for Hitoshi despite only having him for a month and the joy he took in watching them grow, Shouta knew he would do anything for his three boys. No matter the cost.
