Revolution Radio, Operation No Control

Summary:

A mysterious radio station starts broadcasting in New York in 2004, seemingly solely for the entertainment of its only host. As time goes on, though, the station amasses a small audience as new hosts and guests are introduced, and the listeners start to uncover the mystery of this odd late-night broadcast.

At a similar time, a singular New Yorker finally decides to ask if anyone else has ever seen a massive ninja turtle on the rooftop of their apartment building. Well, not giant like.. Godzilla–sized, just the size of a human? A short one even. But definitely too big for a normal turtle.

Through a series of transcripts and facebook comments, we watch as two different groups separately come closer and closer to revealing that a family of mutant ninjas lives in their sewers.

Notes:

Once upon a time I thought about this over on my turte blog (Original idea here!) and it stuck with me? So here you guys go, it got outta hand a tiny bit. You should see the notes for this thing!
The end of chapter notes for each chapter will contain the episodes marking when each chapter is happening (if it has a specific time placement), so that you guys have a better idea of what’s going on at that time in canon. This fic is meant to sort of.. run along canon for the most part.

*ahem* Anyways. Me and Mikey have something in common: we make insane impulsive decisions. One of us convinces his crocodile scientist friend to make him a radio station so his oldest brother can stop dragging him onto extra long missions because he feels bad for murdering an alien dictator, and the other starts planning a massive multi-chapter story despite being very bad at finishing WIPs and having approx. 256347584 projects on his hands already. Guess that makes us both victims of ADHD ♥️

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: The Author Has No Idea How Radios Work

Chapter Text

> file name: broadcast1.txt

> file description: The following is a transcript of what is thought to be the first instance of audio broadcasted from an unknown radio station located somewhere in New York.

> transcript begins.

“Hey hey heeey, my dudes! If you’re hearing this, then first of all, WOOHOO, IT’S FINALLY WORKING!! And second, wow, what are you doing listening to the radio at three in the morning?? Anyway, happy to have you here, my night owl buds! How’s the awesome New York life? How we feelin’ about all four of the subway tracks finally being open at the same time, huh? You guys know this is the first time in like twenty eight years that they’re all open at the same time? Definitely the first time in my life that the subway’s been so crowded, can barely go anywhere nowadays!

“Personally, I can’t go on subways, but hey, I almost got run over by like, five, now? So I don’t really feel like I’m missing out. Don’t worry though, guys! I’m nimble, no train could ever hit me, haha! Not to brag, but I think I could take a train in a fair fight, but they have this bad habit of sneaking up on you? One moment you’re seeing if the pizza on the tracks is still good, and next, BAM! Subway train in your face! Leo says if I wasn’t listening to music all the time I’d have noticed it fine, but psh, Leo’s the most bland man on Earth. He’s lucky I like him, the guy’s not deserving of all this effort.

“Man, I could’ve sworn I had a script and everything, you guys, but then the thingy on the thingy kept not working and now there’s stuff everywhere… man, Master Splinter’s gonna kill me. Oh well, we ball! It was probably just gonna be something about me being a majorly radical radio host, anyway! You know, a little tune would play, like–” [ humming a short tune ] “–and then I come in all ‘hello dear listeners, my name is Mich–’ um. Mikan! My name’s Mikan Angelo, yeah! Fancy, right? It’s Japanese! It’s kinda our family’s heritage, we’re cool like that.

“Anyway, love my fam, but they can only stand so much superhero chatter from me, soooo I figured I’ll look for other Justice Force nerds and such! You guys read the last comic yet, came out this Sunday? I’m gonna do like, a no-spoilers-for-a-week policy, but man guys, it was a ride! Expect some big revelations if you haven’t read it yet!

“Hmmm.. what else to say? I’m probably gonna broadcast at pretty random times, life’s kicking my tail all the time right now, you guys get it, right? So no worries if you don’t hear from me regularly, I’m probably just stuck doing boring chores all day.”

[ pause ]

“…Oh, wow, I can’t believe it’s actually working. Our very own radio broadcast. [ unintelligible word ]1 is the best.

> notes: 1 possibly “ladder head.” This could be an informal job description of, for example, a construction worker?
