Work Text:

Kaveh slammed the door to his room, showing with this, that his argument with Alhaitham is done. Or at least it was done to him. The energy to yell about chores and overdue rent left him as soon as Alhaitham rolled his eyes. Usually he would argue more, something like that wouldn’t make him give up that easily, but today was a different day. Today his client completely trashed his hard work, saying that it’s not even worth looking at it. Kaveh knew it wasn’t true. He showed the work to a couple of people from the Akademiya, for Kusanali’s sake, he even showed it to Alhaitham. He knew it was good, it was goddamn amazing, one of his greatest works just threw in the trash.
Of course he took it out, if that guy didn’t appreciate his genius, someone else will, he was sure of it.
There was one thing he didn’t know though. Alhaitham also had a bad day, which doesn’t happen often, or at least, it doesn’t affect him often. But this day it did. He was overwhelmed with the role of Acting Grand Sage, with people needing so much from him. It wouldn’t be that bad, if he didn’t have to have a big meeting that day. The whole room was so loud and overwhelming, that even his noise cancelling headphones didn’t do their job. It was definitely too much for the former Scribe. The only thing he wanted was to go back to his easy job, that didn’t require much from him, while still giving him a good living situation. He was tired. That’s why he didn’t argue more with Kaveh that day.
They both needed rest.
They both needed some comfort, or at least Alhaitham needed that. Though he didn’t dare to knock on Kaveh’s door, let alone opening it and asking if he’s okay. The thing he decided to do was…wait. It wasn’t the first time they got in a big argument, and it also wasn’t the first time, when Kaveh quietly opened the door to his room, to let Haitham know that he’s welcome, and the blonde wasn’t mad anymore. The Scribe didn’t then hesitate to walk in, not a word escaping his mouth. He just slowly approached Kaveh, who was scribbling something on a piece of paper, while sitting at his desk.
A moment passed and suddenly there were hands wrapped softly around him, as the taller males face was hid in the back of his head. Slight blush creeped on Kavehs face, but he didn’t stop drawing. He didn’t even dare to speak. As long as Alhaitham wasn’t saying anything, he knew that he shouldn’t either. It was like an unspoken rule, at least in moments just like these. Just two of them, in silence.

“You two will always be a mystery to me” said Tighnari once, when he, Kaveh and Cyno were playing TCG in Sumeru City.
“One moment you argue like you’re about to rip each other’s throats apart, and the other you are cuddling and running fingers through each other’s hair. What’s up with that?” the Forest Ranger added, jokingly, looking at Kaveh, who started to get redder and redder on the face with what has been said about him and Alhaitham.
“Just to be clear, we never did that” Kaveh started explaining, just to be cut by Cyno.
“You did, I remember it clearly. I was there, you could have not seen me, but I saw you” Matra said, and the flamboyant male looked at him with shock.
“Cyno, im not sure you realize that, but that’s being a stalker” he furrowed his brows, not content with the fact that he was watched without knowing about it.
“I didn’t have malicious intent, there’s no need to worry about such thing” Cyno shrugged, closing his eyes for a moment.
And that was also the moment that Tighnari let out a quiet sigh from his mouth, shaking his head slightly. He got used to his boyfriends shenanigans, but they still sometimes made him doubt the man.

Kaveh had an even bigger blush on his face, remembering that situation. His friends often liked to talk about his relationship with Alhaitham, which for him, was strictly platonic, sometimes even hostile. He didn’t understand where they were coming from with assuming they were something more. They were just housemates! That’s it.
Or at least that’s what he thought, because at that moment, Alhaitham gave a kiss to the top of his head. It wasn’t a single one though, soon more followed, caressing his head and hair, as the taller man started placing them on his cheek, jaw and then…neck.
“Mng..” Kaveh sighed softly, turning bright red.
He didn’t get any reaction from Alhaitham though, the man just buried his face in the crook of his neck and… Kaveh was one hundred percent sure that he was smelling him, and that made his face flush even more. Was that even possible?

Kaveh was also known for being impulsive, which showed at that moment. He decided to turn around with his chair, now facing Haitham. The Scribe didn’t expect that, but his face never showed it. Instead, he got down to his knees to…put his head on the other ones knees, tilting it to the side and closing his eyes. He felt himself starting to feel at peace, calming down and feeling…comfortable. He really felt comfortable around Kaveh, even though a person could think the opposite. Sure, his senior never payed rent, drank his money at the tavern and struggled with paying off his debt, which often lead to arguments. The point was…Alhaitham never minded that. True, he used to point those things out, but he would never force Kaveh into paying him anything. He…enjoyed his company. Enjoyed having someone to live with, someone to open his mouth to in the rare times when he wanted to do that. Someone to listen to, while reading his books.
And now, someone to comfort him after a bad day, because the blondes hand suddenly buried itself in the Scribes hair, caressing him.
His breath became calm, steady, relaxed. He would never admit it, but one of his favorite things to calm down to was someone touching his hair. It was one of the most relaxing and stress relieving things, and Kaveh knew about that.

He learned about it when they were still studying at the Akademiya. One day Alhaitham sat down at the table Kaveh was drawing at, and plopped his head on the table top. The blonde still doesn’t know what has gotten into him, but at that moment he felt the need to brush the younger’s hair. What he didn’t expect was…that Alhaitham calmed down, relaxed and looked peaceful. From then on, whenever Haitham had a bad day, Kaveh would comfort him like this, and after some time, it became comforting for Kaveh as well. After all, holding close someone you love is....nice. For some, it's one of the best things in the world, if not the best. Kaveh was sure that it was becoming more than nice for him at that time, and he wanted to be closer. He yearned for more closure and intimacy with Alhaitham. That is exactly why he suddenly touched the Acting Grand Sage's shoulders, to make him look up. "Can we...cuddle on the bed?" He asked, feeling a blush creeping on his cheeks. Even though he was comfortable with the younger male, he still blushed like crazy around him. He sometimes called it "puppy love", and it seemed to be the most accurate description of his feelings. After all, he was head over heels for him, and it showed. He was pretty sure even Alhaitham noticed that, that's how much obvious he was. But were they hiding their feelings for each other? No, never. Maybe they hid it in front of other people, but around each other they were honest with how they feel, at least romantically. They never seemed to make their relationship official, but in Kaveh's mind, Alhaitham already accepted their mutual feelings towards each other. So they were in a relationship without having to actually ask the other one about it. "Okay" Alhaitham broke the silence, standing up and unexpectedly lifted his lover up with ease. A squeel could be heard from Kaveh, but the Scribe didn't say anything. He just turned around to get on Kaveh's bed and...cuddle him up while laying down. "Is that acceptable?" he asked, making the blonde laugh quietly. "More than that actually, it's perfect" he replied as he snuggled himself into Alhaitham's chest. It was surely one of his favorite things about him. Those breasts of his were one of the main characters of Kaveth's dreams, but he would never actually admit it to him. That would be definitely too embarassing.

"Okay" Alhaitham nodded, as he put a hand on Kaveh's head and started patting it.
His eyes immediately closed, as he was ready to fall asleep, yet the older man had other plans.
"I love you, Alhaitham..." he whispered, but the Acting Grand Sage heard it perfectly.
A small, faint blush appeared on his face, as he sighed lightly.
"That's the first time you said that to me" he acknowledged the words, as Kaveh rolled his eyes and looked up at him.
"Yes, yes it is, and you're not even gonna say it back!" he complained, gaining a chuckle from his junior.
"Do I need to say it for you to know how I feel?"
That question made Kaveh just stare at him, until he sighed again.
"I love you too, Kaveh, don't forget that, okay?" a whisper could be suddenly heard, as he put a hand on Kaveh's cheek.
This cheek was so red and the blonde's eyes were watery, as he was staring with amusement.
"I...i won't" he shook his head.
"Do you promise, Kaveh?" asked Alhaitham, raising one of his eyebrows.
"Yes, yes i do!" he spoke up, trying to wipe off his tears.
Trying, because soon his movements were limited by the tall male, getting closer and kissing him on the lips.
The kiss was soft, the one that makes you feel butterflies in your stomach, the one that makes you warm in your chest. Kaveh was admiring the sweet feeling as long as it lasted, because soon The Scribe pulled away and wiped the blonde's lips with his thumb.
"And I always will" he said, smiling lightly, with love.
Kaveh couldn't help but smile, happy that they finally admitted their feelings for each other, happy that he doesn't have to wonder if they're actually together. Happy, because he had Alhaitham. And Alhaitham had him.
