Summary:

“The bubblegum one Neens has is so good. Do you think eating a whole jar would kill me? I mean, someone, I’m asking for a friend.”

“You are not eating Lush lip scrubs, Jes.” Wylan’s lips quivered as he tried to be stern but couldn’t stop imagining his boyfriend eating cosmetics like they were candy.

Work Text:

There was a step by step process for everything in Wylan’s brain, especially when he had to be somewhere at a certain time. If he had somewhere to be, he’d be ready hours before, and he wouldn’t do anything else the whole day.

Wylan was beginning to get worried, not because he was late or because he wasn’t ready, but because he just couldn’t get the clasp on his earring to close. He was already dressed and checked if he packed his bag correctly, so this was the last step.

It was date night, and Jesper wouldn’t mind if Wylan was late or anything, but Wylan would mind. He’d hate to inconvenience anybody, as if Jesper could look at Wylan and think he was an inconvenience, even if he was going out of his way to do so.

Maybe he was a little shaky because date night got him all excited, or maybe he was running out of time. Jesper should be here any minute, because he got excited about date night and showed up early.

Wylan was halfway around his bed, fingers uselessly fumbling with his earring as there was a quick, rhythmic knock on the door. Jesper. He nearly tripped over his feet as he ran to open it, carefully leaving his earring balanced as he yanked the door open.

“Thank goodness, can you help me? I’ve been losing my mind for ten minutes.” Wylan sighed in relief at the sight of Jesper, in that leather jacket Wylan couldn’t keep his eyes off. He smiled at the sight of Jesper’s necklace, the small silver star shaped lock that Wylan gave him.

“Woah, yeah, uh huh…” Jesper’s eyes went wide because Wylan, gorgeous, learning-how-to-accessorize, beautiful, Wylan was dressed like an angel. He didn’t even know what his boyfriend was asking him to do before he combed redgold curls behind his ear and tilted his head towards him. “When did you get these?”

“They just came in the mail,” Wylan held still as Jesper easily closed his earring for him, a dangly little golden star hanging from his earlobe. Because he couldn’t resist, Jesper touched the hoop that sat beside it. Wylan turned into Jesper’s palm, smiling as Jesper kissed his temple. “I’m ready now, just let me get my bag.”

“You’re so pretty I almost forgot.” Jesper’s non-dominant hand was holding a bouquet of tulips uselessly at his side, but he held them back up when he remembered he wasn’t here just to drool over Wylan.

“Oh, thank you, Jes.” Wylan’s cheeks and ears flushed warmly as he accepted the flowers. They were orange and pink and he leaned in to gently sniff them. “Give me a second to find my vase…!”

“That’s why I came early,” Jesper offered a small smile, he knew how Wylan’s mind worked, knew that if he showed up early they still could leave on time. “Did I mention that you look stunning right now? And I mean absolutely radiant?”

“You didn’t…” Wylan cleared his throat as he disappeared behind his desk chair and opened up the small cupboard under the desk. “You look really handsome too, the jacket…I love that jacket.”

“Yeah, not me but the jacket.” Jesper laughed under his breath, lightly teasing his boyfriend as he popped back up with a small green glass vase. “My jacket doesn’t compare to your belt, or the shirt, or the pearl necklace. Wy, baby, the pearl necklace.” He all but groaned and Wylan softly cleared his throat as he placed the flowers in the vase.

“I just wanted to look nice…” Wylan whispered, he wondered if the belt with the heart shaped buckle was too much. Or if the slouchy button up being unbuttoned enough to show the thin white shirt underneath was too much. And if those weren’t enough then certainly the layered pearl necklace was. “Stop it, Jes.” He pouted, because his face was too hot for him to function.

“You look more than nice.” Jesper corrected, raising both his eyebrows as he leaned against the wall and shamelessly stared at Wylan’s neck as he swallowed dryly. “You’re glowing, the brightest damn thing I’ve seen in my life. And I won’t be able to keep–wait, was that like a serious stop? Like I was making you uncomfortable? I’ll stop.”

Wylan pulled his bag over his head, it was small, brown  and crossbody, holding keys and his wallet and anything they may need in an emergency. He settled the vase on the center of his desk and walked to where Jesper was now fretting against the wall. Wylan hooked a finger in Jesper’s necklace chain and Jesper’s lips parted to talk but Wylan kissed him before he could.

“I was mostly joking, I meant stop because if I get any warmer I’m going to explode.” Wylan pulled away enough so he could grab Jesper’s hand and press it to his burning hot cheek. “See? You’ve flustered me beyond repair, what are you going to do if I melt away into nothingness?”

“Be really, really miserable.” Jesper leaned in as he spoke, fingers stroking over Wylan’s cheek and to his ear again, more than appreciative of his new earrings. They kissed again, and it didn’t help either of them calm down, but Jesper knew it was a little cooler outside and was just going to get colder as the sun went down. “We should leave now if we don’t want to be late for the film festival.”

Wylan did not want to be late to anything, much less a date with Jesper he’d planned weeks in advance. Not when Jesper bought the tickets and dutifully waited for the day to come where he could watch indie films for hours with his boyfriend.

“Let’s go, honey.” Wylan slid his fingers between Jesper’s and looked down at the feeling of cool metal touching his hand. Jesper knew exactly what he was doing wearing rings, Wylan met his eyes and Jesper batted his lashes at him, smug. “Touché.”

So they had both weaponized their accessories today, taking notes on what would distract each other the most. It was hard enough to not spend every waking moment together staring at one another, but here was the strategic earring or belt or ring. It was unfair, but they were both guilty, so maybe it was sweet.

Wylan refused to acknowledge he forgot to plan for the change in weather, because it was warmer earlier and because he knew forgetting a jacket would mean he’d get to borrow Jesper’s. It was a strategic jacket forgetting, and neither of them were going to speak up about it.

The way to the truck wasn’t cold, but Wylan hung off of Jesper’s arm anyways, snuggling like he’d freeze to death without him near. This was more him wanting to be as close as humanly possible, and Jesper clasped a hand around Wylan’s tucking them both into his jacket pocket. Wylan bit at his bottom lip, heart only racing faster as he traced the ring on Jesper’s middle finger with his thumb.

Jesper caught Wylan up on what happened in class today, and Wylan listened eagerly. He always did, pleased to hear about Jesper’s day in great detail. He cared if Jesper went a different route to class or if Jesper had the same thing for breakfast or if his unassigned assigned seat was taken in English.

Matthias had lent his truck out to Jesper more than once, it was hard to say no to him when he smiled and he would rather his friends have a ride home than walk around in the dark. It was half that Matthias wanted his friends to be safe and half that Jesper had a way of enchanting people.

Jesper opened up the passenger side door and watched Wylan carefully climb in. He of course got a small kiss on the cheek for being a gentleman and he rushed around to get into the driver’s seat so he could continue breathing the same air as his boyfriend.

Wylan rummaged around in his little bag for something as Jesper eased into his seat, turned on the engine and then the radio, and proceeded to sneer at all the music pouring out of it. While Jesper mumbled about how he couldn’t bear most of the music they played he settled on an alternative rock station and Wylan was prettily applying lip gloss.

Once Jesper caught on to what Wylan was doing in the visor mirror, he stopped talking and stared in what was soon an unsettling silence. Wylan was twisting his tube of gloss closed as he peeked over at Jesper to see him unabashedly checking him out.

“Sorry, were you waiting for me?” Wylan, suddenly worried about being off schedule or potentially missing something important Jesper was saying. “I was listening, Jes, I was. You said all the songs sucked and they were just weak attempts at-”

“Man, I am annoying, I’m right, but annoying.” Jesper could not handle hearing his own review coming out of his boyfriend’s mouth. He leaned over so he could splay his hand over Wylan’s neck and pulled him a little bit closer. “You’re not in trouble, I’m just looking at you.”

“Oh, okay.” Wylan squirmed uncomfortably, not because Jesper made him uncomfortable, but because it was hard to pretend that he couldn’t tell what Jesper was thinking from a single glance. “Well don’t, honey, we’re gonna be late if you keep looking at me like that.”

“Like what?” Jesper softly tilted his head in playful confusion because he was not the most subtle guy around. There was no subtlety between him and Wylan, because Jesper let down all guard he could possibly muster. “You’re right though, I’ve gotta drive so I’m forced to look at the road. Otherwise your lipgloss is gonna get messed up, fast, and I mean fast.”

“Don’t.” Wylan could not control the desperate flop of his stomach, it wasn’t unwelcome but it demanded attention. “We can’t be late, I’ll get all mopey.”

“Yeah, don’t worry, baby.” Jesper pulled his hand away from Wylan’s pulse thumping in his neck and gave his jawline a soft, chaste kiss. “I’m not gonna ruin date night, certainly not when there’s a documentary on the scarab on the roster tonight.”

“Is there really?” Wylan watched Jesper start the car, adjust the mirrors and double check Wylan was buckled in before starting to drive. He watched his boyfriend expectantly for about a minute or so, relaxing immediately when Jesper’s hand fell from the steering wheel and found Wylan’s thigh. Yes, he was waiting for it, because that was also part of the routine.

“Uh huh, I read the website and the infographics.” Jesper said with a small twitch of his eyebrow, he liked to impress Wylan and so he’d memorized all the films that would be playing tonight. “Apparently there’s a psychological surrealist found-footage film, which sounds like a lot and probably will be a lot.”

“I think the best part about a film is talking about it afterwards.” Wylan smiled fondly at his boyfriend, whose hand had taken to tapping the beat of the song on his leg. “Maybe I just like talking to you.”

“We will have a lot to talk about,” Jesper spared Wylan a glance as they waited for their turn, he leaned over and kissed his cheek. “Kinda killing me to not kiss your pretty mouth, but worth it, since you’re sparkly.”

“I am sparkly.” Wylan softly crossed his ankles and looked out the window, clearing his throat a little bit. Nothing in the whole world could compare to Jesper noticing every single detail about him. The speed in which he did it sent Wylan reeling every time. Wylan never had to beg him to notice he did something new with his hair or wore a new shirt, because Jesper could just tell, because Jesper was always looking. “It’s kinda bothering me too, after dinner it’ll all come off. The lipgloss. I mean.”

“I know you meant lipgloss.” Jesper snorted softly, giving Wylan’s leg a comforting little squeeze. “Do you have any scarab fun facts for me?”

“Maybe.” Wylan slumped in his seat a little bit, because now he was thinking, eyes veering off upwards as if he could physically sort through his thoughts. “You know it’s a dung beetle?”

“Really?” Jesper did not know, he wondered how much he’d be learning from the documentary if Wylan had more facts in his head.

“Mhm, they’re also one of the strongest animals ever.” Wylan whispered as his hand softly grasped Jesper’s sleeve, keeping him touching him like Jesper had any plans to stop anytime soon. “Also none of the flesh eating stuff is happening, they’re dung beetles. So. It’s dung.”

“Dung is an absolutely wild word.” Jesper, soaking in all his new scarab facts, had latched onto how funny the word was beginning to sound after Wylan kept repeating it.

“Um, they used to be called tumble-bugs or turd weevils.” Wylan offered and Jesper grinned, just how much was he going to make his boyfriend talk about poop today? And how much did Wylan know about it?

“What did you do today?” Jesper decided to veer away from dung talk, even if Wylan didn’t seem put off by it in any way.

“Oh, um, went to my 8am.” Wylan was more than happy to talk about his day, even happier to do it when Jesper slowly rubbed up and down his leg. “Then I went for office hours to get help for classics and linguistics.”

The two of them fell into easy conversation about the day, about every aching hour they couldn’t spend together. They tried to do date night every friday, sometimes they’d have two a week, depending on the week.

They saw each other every day, but Jesper made it a point to take Wylan out. Wylan would be happy anywhere with Jesper, happy to stay in and happy to go out. Happy as long as he was being held and listened to and treated kindly. And Jesper was the man to do it, to do more than Wylan ever expected.

Wylan was initially overwhelmed by the crowd the film festival had drawn, but they’d come early to avoid when it would get particularly bad. Jesper, who perhaps flourished in crowds, hooked an arm around Wylan’s waist and tucked him against his side softly. There was no worrying about anything, about it being stuffy or loud or confusing, because Jesper had done the scary stuff for him for a long time.

Letting Wylan burrow into his side while he gave the staff their tickets, got the location of their seats, and got them to where they were meant to go was the ultimate comfort. Before Wylan knew it, he was sitting safe and sound with Jesper beside him, tucking their stamped tickets into Wylan’s crossbody bag.

“Hi, you okay?” Jesper zipped his boyfriend’s bag up and pushed the armrest separating them up and behind the seat. Wylan leaned into Jesper again, he wouldn’t even have thought to see if the armrest could move.

“Hi, I’m good.” Wylan smiled as Jesper softly fixed the pieces of hair that framed his face, small curls that got buffeted by the wind and the smooshing into Jesper’s jacket. “I didn’t even process how we got from the entrance to here.”

“A lot of fucking people here.” Jesper agreed that if he was anybody else he would have been equally as overwhelmed as Wylan was. It wasn’t as bad when they were sitting quietly in a corner, Wylan closest to the wall so he wouldn’t have to deal with anybody but Jesper sitting next to him. “But we made it, and with twenty minutes to spare.”

“That’s even better than I planned, I wanted fifteen.” Wylan was overjoyed that they managed to beat his schedule, that the plan was working out and he didn’t have to worry for even a second. “Cause thirty is way too much but ten is too little, what if something happens?”

“Well, nothing happened, which is lovely.” Jesper kissed Wylan’s temple and Wylan pushed his hand under Jesper’s jacket so he could hold his shirt instead. He liked the leather jacket more than the average person because it was on the most handsome man he’d ever seen, but he still liked feeling Jesper’s warmth against him more. “If anything happens it’s okay, we can problem-solve. We’ve got more than enough brain cells between the two of us.”

“All my brain cells fall out of my head when stuff goes wrong,” Wylan sighed quietly, he breathed in Jesper’s cologne and gently wrapped his arm around him. “But yeah, nothing went wrong. Yay.”

“Yes, big yay.” Jesper laughed pleasantly, his own arm settling around Wylan’s shoulder and softly smoothing his hand down as much of Wylan’s  arm as he could reach. “Can I get one kiss?”

“Uh huh, as many as you want.” Wylan was confused by the question until he pressed their lips together softly and saw the transfer of glitter onto Jesper’s mouth. “Oh, oh, I forgot.” He gently wiped a majority of the gloss off of Jesper’s grinning mouth and flushed all the way to his ears. “You did that on purpose.”

“I didn’t do anything, you kissed me.” Jesper was dragging a finger over Wylan’s arm softly as he spoke and Wylan couldn’t fight the brief shiver. Jesper beamed even brighter at the sight and Wylan huffed, as if he could really be mad that Jesper made him shake with anticipation. “I thought it would taste better.” He said as he licked his lips and Wylan pointedly looked away from his stupid tongue.

“It’s lipgloss, not lip balm.” Wylan murmured, opening his bag for a little packet of tissues and wiping his now slightly sticky fingers clean. “I do have some in my bag though.” He offered a small tube to his boyfriend and Jesper took it, reading the tiny fine print.

“I like the orange one,” Jesper was holding Wylan’s pomegranate lip balm and softly sighed as he uncapped it. “Do you know how crazy it feels to kiss you and you taste like a sweet orange? Like wow oranges are my favourite fruit now thanks for asking.” He said as he swiped lip balm over his lips and capped it again.

“I ran out of the mandarin one,” Wylan consoled Jesper with a smile on his face, because he was still using his lip balm regardless of the flavour. “I’m not your favourite fruit?”

“Wylan.” Jesper whispered, scandalized, before settling for a small nuzzle of his nose against his cheek. Sure his lips were hydrated and Wylan’s were sparkly but he wanted them to be touching.

“It was too easy.” Wylan said quietly as the lights around them began to lower and he put his lip balm away for later. “I’ll make a mental note to stock up on sweet mandarin lip balm.”

“While you’re at it, those little sugar pots.” Jesper put his thumb and pointer finger together in a small circle. Wylan giggled to himself, taking Jesper by the hand and putting it down on top of his knee.

“Lip scrubs?” Wylan couldn’t be more gleeful if he tried, the way Jesper talked about anything, everything, it just made him feel so lucky to witness it.

“My name was better,” Jesper mumbled, using up every ounce of self-control to not wipe Wylan’s lip gloss off and kiss him right here in the theater.

“I mean, I guess you can technically eat their stuff, it’s natural, but. Don’t, honey.” He squirmed further underneath Jesper’s arm when a well-dressed official looking individual crossed onto the stage.

“Shame on you for not letting me eat lip scrubs.” Jesper whispered right into Wylan’s ear before shutting his mouth and listening to the opening speech all about the film festival. He of course had studied the website and could list the sponsors if Wylan wanted him to.

Jesper often struggled with films that were any longer than 90 minutes, but he was very engaged with Wylan’s hand in his. The films packed a punch whether they were 15 minutes or 45 or 80, and Jesper, who had never regretted a date with Wylan, thought this had to be one of the best they’d ever gone on. Hours of student films went by quickly, he didn’t let go of Wylan’s hand once. Not when they laughed together, or gasped together, or cried together, or jolted when the found-footage film was too convincing.

By the time the lights had turned back on and the audience erupted in applause, Jesper was completely slumped in his chair in exhaustion from how much media he’d just consumed and Wylan was gently rubbing the remnants of tears out of his eyelashes.

The films had been a whirlwind between the documentary about scarabs and the surrealist found-footage. There was so much more Wylan hadn’t been expecting, the coming of age film and the one about learning to reconnect with people you’ve never met and the love stories. There were so many films about love, all sorts of love, all the love in the world.

He rested his head on his boyfriend’s shoulder and thought about love. Love was Jesper not moving to get up even as people around them began leaving because he knew Wylan would want to avoid the crowd again. Love was Wylan holding Jesper’s knee when he thought too hard about how long he’d been sitting in his chair and how badly he wanted to be moving again. Love was Jesper and Wylan and Wylan and Jesper, sitting quietly together like they were the only two people in the world.

They waited no more than twenty minutes in the theater before getting up and making their way to the truck. Then they waited another ten minutes for traffic to clear out, because neither of them wanted to get stuck in a parking lot.

Instead they huddled together and Jesper read out the menu to the casually fancy restaurant they were going to. There was lots of judgment and lots of second thoughts and lots of wondering if they should just go for pizza instead. Just how artisanal could a dish be?  Did there need to be cranberries in it? Why were there truffles in everything?

They went anyway, because Wylan wanted to try new things and Jesper thought the cranberry thing actually sounded kind of good. On the same side of the booth at the restaurant, the two of them picked off each other’s plates and poked at unidentified sauces and traded sips of mocktails.

There were less complaints about dessert, lots of excitement over the promise of crème brûlée and lemon tarts. Of course they ordered both and of course they ate them impressively fast, and then they were slumped in the booth holding their full stomachs.

Apparently the meal came with free after-dinner tea, and so they sipped on fancy tea. There was a little bit of fighting for the bill, just a little. Jesper wanted it to be his treat but the film festival tickets were on him. Wylan never had to beg Jesper for anything, he just kissed Jesper on the jaw a few times and he was utterly convinced.

The fancy bathroom also was taken advantage of, there were many mirror pictures to be had in a bathroom that was that well decorated. Wylan admired the paintings they had up on the walls while Jesper sat on one of the two bathroom couches and admired Wylan while he did so.

Jesper kept an arm wrapped around Wylan as his boyfriend paid for their meal, making pleasant conversation with the server about scarabs since the documentary made quite the impact on him. They left the restaurant about an hour before it closed and tumbled into Matthias’ truck.

“What’re those eyes for?” Jesper had barely gotten the truck door closed when he noticed Wylan’s usually bright big blue eyes were sharp and sultry.

“Nothing…” Wylan shrugged his shoulders, turning so his knees were facing his window, and Jesper’s mouth fell open in disbelief. When Wylan peeked over his shoulder at his boyfriend, he batted his eyelashes and Jesper narrowed his eyes playfully.

“That’s not nothing.” Jesper smoothed his hand over the back of Wylan’s neck and Wylan’s knee bumped into the car door softly. “Are you gonna make me work for it, baby?” He thumbed at Wylan’s pulse and he tilted his head away from the touch, exposing more of his neck.

“Maaaaybe…” Wylan’s voice was higher than he’d like for it to be, he wasn’t great at the push and pull thing but it was always a little fun. “I was just thinking…”

“What are we thinking?” Jesper could play along, he was great at playing along. He hooked a finger under Wylan’s pearl necklace and softly traced one of the gems.

“That I’m not wearing my lip gloss anymore…” Wylan pressed his lips together softly, looking over his shoulder one more time just in time to catch Jesper repositioning himself so he could reach over Wylan.

“You did say it was gonna come off after dinner.” Jesper made eye contact with Wylan as he grabbed the handle on the opposite end of the seat, softly easing Wylan back. Then he waited, and Wylan flushed all the way up to his ears.

“Wanna…come here?” Wylan couldn’t help but grin when Jesper crawled over to him, giggling when he yanked the chair even further back so they could both comfortably fit on the seat. Wylan kissed him first, he’d wanted to all night, but the lip gloss completed the outfit. Now that they weren’t going anywhere but home, he could let himself get kissed senseless by his boyfriend.

“What do I get for managing not to kiss you for fucking hours?” Jesper whispered against Wylan’s lips, sighing in absolute relief that he did not have to worry about anything but pleasing Wylan. With their bodies comfortably pressed against each other, Wylan wrapped his arms around Jesper’s neck and hummed.

“Not too much, cause it’s Matty’s truck.” Wylan felt like he had to remind Jesper that this was not the same as being in Colm’s truck. That the whole rebellious teenagers in love making love in a truck wasn’t going to work when they were all teenagers.

“How about this?” Jesper slid his hands around Wylan’s waist and pulled him close before rolling them over. Wylan preferred being in Jesper’s lap, but he certainly was not going to complain about being under him. “And your hand goes here, and mine goes over it.” He softly undid Wylan’s belt and Wylan’s breath caught in his throat.

“We’re in Matty’s truck.” Wylan repeated himself, not sure if Jesper heard him over the many thoughts in his head right now.

“If you’re worried about making a mess…” Jesper started and Wylan tilted his head into his boyfriend’s neck, a small noise forced from his throat. Of course he was worried about making a mess, but it didn’t stop his hands from undoing Jesper’s pants.

“You can’t put your hand over mine cause I won’t last.” Wylan murmured as he was beginning to not be able to think about anything but this. Jesper smiled brightly, kissing Wylan on the cheek noisily.

“I don’t want you to.” Jesper chuckled and Wylan couldn’t help the way his entire body reacted to the sound. It only made his boyfriend laugh more, the excitement that came with secret romps in a borrowed truck was so much that it was hard to breathe.

Of course Wylan didn’t last, neither did Jesper, but it didn’t matter because the ride home was going to serve as the refractory period. Wylan rolled his eyes at the words as they left Jesper’s mouth but it made him so ungodly hot he couldn’t focus. At least they didn’t make a mess in the truck, Wylan could stop worrying about that.

When they got back to Wylan’s room, he guided Jesper’s hand away from his backside and looked around at Matthias’ empty bed. He blinked a few times, letting Jesper usher him into his own room and shut the door behind them.

“He isn’t home?” Wylan thought Matthias would be back by now, it was getting late and it was quiet hours and all. Jesper hunched down to take off his boots and Wylan used his shoulder to steady himself so he could step out of his shoes.

“He has some lacrosse buddies he can stay with.” Jesper confirmed that he had given Matthias the heads up and Matthias had made sure he wouldn’t be in the room when they got back. Wylan didn’t know how he felt about Matthias knowing about his sex life and planning accordingly. “Where do you want me, baby?”

“Let me freshen up first.” Wylan held Jesper’s arms as he stood up straight again, he rose on his toes to kiss Jesper on the neck. “I mean, preferably on the bed, but if you have other ideas.”

“Freshening up better not be code for robbing me of the enjoyment of prepping you.” Jesper plucked his leather jacket off of Wylan’s shoulders and set it down on the back of his desk chair. He settled on the edge of Wylan’s bed and pulled his shirt over his head, laying back dramatically.

“It’s not code.” Wylan cleared his throat as if Matthias was genuinely in the room with them and would judge Wylan for being sexually active with someone he’d been seriously dating since high school. “You know you should freshen up too, wash your hands after, um, what you did with them.”

“Damn, you’re right.” Jesper was laying down for approximately two seconds before he was jumping up and racing Wylan into the bathroom. “I like the bed, love it actually, big fan of the bed, but if the desk wasn’t so fucking creaky…”

“Not on the desk I use to study.” Wylan would fail his classes immediately if every time he looked at his desk he thought of Jesper taking him on it. “And don’t say it, you’re so bad.”

“I wasn’t gonna say anything.” Jesper innocently washed his hands and fixed up his hair in the mirror for a few seconds. “Would it be so bad to suggest somebody else’s desk? Say, somebody that wasn’t even here right now?”

“Yes, yes it would be.” Wylan glared at Jesper through the mirror as he brushed past him and took out his dangly earrings. “First his truck and then his desk, is that anyway to thank the guy who didn’t make us walk?”

“I guess not.” Jesper stared at Wylan to make sure that the pearl necklace stayed on, and it did, and so he looked away happily. “You are a much better man than me. If you told me to bend over Kaz’s desk I would gladly do so.”

“Why the hell would I tell you to bend over Kaz’s desk?” Wylan laughed so loud that he had to cover his mouth at the sound of it, and Jesper spluttered in disbelief that Wylan could defy quiet hours like that.

Unfortunately this devolved into silent laughter that was funnier than the actual joke. Wylan had to steady himself against Jesper and Jesper did not keep his balance, instead thumping into the bathroom door. This only made it funnier, gasping for air and clutching at each other.

Wylan could barely make it to his bed, still giggling as he laid down and pulled his pants down. Jesper helped get them off his ankles, grinning at the sight of a happy and flushed Wylan looking up at him. He could never get enough of how much fun it was to be with Wylan, of how often he cried from laughter.

Jesper playfully tested Wylan’s flexibility by pushing his thigh in an odd direction and he gasped, immediately getting his revenge by forcing Jesper’s knees apart so abruptly that he squeaked. Wylan was very proud of himself because a Jesper squeak was hard to come by, but not impossible if you were an expert like Wylan.

Wylan’s punishment for it was to be kissed hard against the bed and he took it like a champ, his fingers tracing where Jesper’s boxers peeked out the top of his pants.

“You wanna?” Jesper pulled away from the kiss and stroked his hand over Wylan’s warm cheek, brushing away small curls of redgold hair.

“Uh huh.” Wylan did want to, he’d wanted to for hours but they were physically on their date. This part of the routine was whatever they wanted to do when they got home and were alone. Sometimes it was just cuddling, sometimes they’d take a shower and other times they didn’t even make it to the bed.

“I’m going to need your enthusiastic consent,” Jesper sang the words as he stretched his arms over his head, annoyingly giving Wylan a lovely view of his stomach tightening and his stupid abdomen defining. “You have mine, by the way. Yes, I do want you, do you want me?”

“Jesper.” Wylan tilted his head back in irritation, softly kicking his feet as he discarded his button down shirt on the floor. His shaky hands reached over to brush his fingers over Jesper’s warm stomach and he twitched, lip caught between his teeth as he watched Wylan’s gentle hands press a little firmer. “You know I want you.”

“I can’t just assume.” Jesper put his hands over Wylan’s and guided them to hold his waist. “I’ve gotta ask, for the sake of consent.”

“I think you’re just trying to get me to say something dirty,” Wylan mumbled, smoothing over Jesper’s waist a few times appreciatively before grabbing the waistband of his pants. “You need to work harder for that, you’re not winning that easily.”

“Winning? I think I am, the gorgeous boy I’m in love with is half-naked under me.” Jesper raised an eyebrow as he spoke, pushing Wylan’s white shirt up further up his chest and leaning down to kiss his blushing skin. “Is this okay, baby?”

“Jes, honey, I’ll say if it’s not okay.” Wylan rarely genuinely got annoyed with Jesper, and it was when Jesper was really, really trying to get a reaction out of him. The only time he could really bother Wylan was when he should be giving it to him but instead was chatting in circles. “I’m not going to beg, but I’ll make you.”

“I will happily beg.” Jesper smiled as Wylan easily flipped them so he was underneath his slightly irritated boyfriend. Yes, Jesper was trying to get Wylan to say something dirty, but he was also trying to make his eyebrows furrow and get all wound up. Because when Wylan got wound up, he made all sorts of relieved noises and almost cried when he got what he wanted.

“Begging for me to take it easy on you?” Wylan pulled his shirt completely over his head and let it drop to the floor. Jesper eagerly unzipped his pants and shoved them down his thighs, Wylan sighed as Jesper got up on his elbows and kissed his chest sweetly.

“I love you,” Jesper said suddenly, because he was always thinking about it but wanted to remind Wylan. As if he wasn’t in bed with his boyfriend right now, both of them just in their underwear. “Is it okay if I prep-”

“Jesper, darling, it is okay.” Wylan burned a fiery red, he didn’t need the narration, in fact the narration was making him a little bit nervous. His hands grabbed either side of Jesper’s face and he forced him to look into his eyes. “I love you. Thank you for the beautiful date night, I had so much fun.” He kissed him and Jesper kissed back, hugging Wylan close.

“Anything for you, anything for us.” Jesper was buzzing at the thought of Wylan having fun with him, the same feeling he’d been chasing since they first met. He always wanted Wylan to be happy, to have fun, to be comfortable, to be warm. “You’re about to have a lot more fun, raise your hips…” Wylan did without question and Jesper groaned in his throat.

“I think it’s kind of important that I last right now,” Wylan mumbled, watching Jesper rummage around in the drawer of his nightstand because yeah, everything they needed was going to be right there, Wylan was a planner, always ahead of the game. “Do not narrate this, I will throw a tantrum.”

“I wouldn’t dream of it.” Jesper smirked, because he sort of was dreaming of it, but real Wylan, his Wylan, would not react the way dream Wylan would have. “Just wondering, do I taste like pomegranates?” He kissed Wylan again so he could get a better judgment, his hands multitasking with gathering supplies.

“A little bit,” Wylan snorted as he took the whole raising his hips thing a little further and just took off his underwear. “You’re still thinking about lip balm?”

“I’m thinking about many, many things.” Jesper sighed wistfully at the sight of Wylan, completely naked on top of him, casually talking about lip balm. “You are so, so gorgeous, by the way.”

“It’s the necklace.” Wylan tilted himself back a little so Jesper could get the full image, beautiful boyfriend in nothing but a pearl necklace. Jesper swallowed the lump in his throat and leaned forward so he could get a pearl between his teeth. “Oh, don’t do that.” Wylan meant it in the way that the visual stimulation was going to make him pass out, that his beautiful Jesper was being far too alluring right now.

“And what am I doing?” Jesper wasn’t one to give up, he was going to make Wylan say something that would make him blush even harder. As if that was even possible, he was already blushing down to his chest and up to his ears.

“Not behaving.” Wylan hummed out as Jesper let the pearl fall from his mouth and got to kissing Wylan’s throat instead, eager to behave. Jesper’s hands clung to Wylan’s backside, squeezing gently when Wylan got a little sick of waiting and rocked his hips softly.

Wylan reached forward for the necklace he’d given Jesper, he held the star shaped lock and smoothed his thumb over it delicately. Jesper’s eyes fluttered, thinking about both of them in nothing but necklaces. Then Wylan twisted the chain lightly, and gave Jesper’s necklace the softest yank, and Jesper moaned loud.

“I’ll behave, baby, I will.” Jesper’s mouth fell open because Wylan had just wordlessly reminded him of the dynamic they had going on. Behaving meant pleasing Wylan, and pleasing Wylan would ultimately please Jesper. It was a fantastic arrangement, one that was Jesper’s idea in the first place. “Please, I will.”

“Made you beg.” Wylan smiled warmly, letting go of the necklace and gently rubbing his hand over Jesper’s quickly rising chest. “You’re right, this is fun.” He laughed loudly when Jesper buried his face in his neck and knocked him onto his back again.

A secret, hidden routine for date night was Jesper’s own. That his own agenda was made purely to keep Wylan comfortable, safe, happy and smiling. All of his energy went into making sure Wylan had the night of his life, and Jesper focused hard on it.

Jesper’s need to keep Wylan happy made him happy, made him glow. Wylan’s happiness was genuinely Jesper’s happiness, the two of them so tangled up in each other that it was hard to know when one of them started and the other stopped. Neither of them minded, how could they mind? When born out of love there was a comforting happiness that surrounded both of them wherever they went.

There wasn’t anything Jesper wouldn’t do to make Wylan happy and there wasn’t anything that would make Wylan happy that would be impossible for Jesper to do. Because there was another secret. That Jesper could do whatever he wanted and Wylan would be happy. As long as he could be here in his arms, laughing and smiling, he would be happy.

Deep down Jesper probably knew this, but it wasn’t going to stop him from treating Wylan like he’d fallen from heaven right into his lap. Jesper wanted to give Wylan the world, wanted to give him the moon too, and so he would. For as long as he was allowed to live in Wylan’s orbit, he was going to chip away at the world and put it in Wylan’s pocket.

What was Wylan’s was also Jesper’s, so Wylan had been sharing the world with Jesper anyways. Their little corner of the universe was thick with blinding stars and sparkling sun rays. Sometimes those rays lived inside of Wylan’s chest, and most of the time those stars lived inside of Jesper’s eyes.

But when Wylan looked at Jesper all he saw was the sun. And when Jesper looked at Wylan all he saw was a million stars, gorgeous and hard to look away from. So he often didn’t, he’d stare in awe for the rest of his life probably. Wylan would bask in the sun for as long as he was alive, oh, how he loved the sun. Jesper’s appetite and preference for the taste of stars couldn’t even compete with sweet mandarin or bubblegum, how could he ever be content with anything else?

He sought out stars in the dark night sky, and always there they were, shining soft and friendly right beside him. He loved the stars, since he knew in his heart of hearts that they would never, ever leave his side.
