A Sister Knows

Summary:

The title says it all.

Work Text:

“A Sister Knows”

Rodney looked around and noticed that John was still waiting to talk to someone at the information desk. Today was a day that was turning into chaos. Their little vacation was coming to an end. His niece, Madison, was now officially 8 years old, and the birthday activities had taken their toll on everyone.

His phone began to ring and he noticed it was his sister, “Why are you calling me?” Rodney asked.

“Just curious if you guys were able to get out before all the cancellations started?” Jeannie asked. “I can’t believe no one saw the big snowstorm coming.”

“If there is a breakthrough in future weather forecasting I will let you know.”

“What’s John doing?” Jeannie asked with a sweetness that Rodney knew so well.

“Trying to get more information about when we will be able to leave.”

“You should hold his hand.” Jeannie snickered.

“Stop it.” Rodney groaned, wondering why his sister teased him about John all the time.

“I can’t believe you two, even Madam Glenda can see the attraction. She’s blind.”

“Seriously, I’m not having this conversation with you again! Especially in a crowded airport.”

“Perfect time to make your move Mer. No one will notice. They’re too upset and focused on their own dilemma to notice two men holding hands.”

“I’m hanging up now,” Rodney warned.

“Chicken…” was the last thing he heard his sister say as he hung up the phone mumbling, because most of the time she was.

“Sisters…pain in the ass,” Rodney muttered under his breath, not releasing that Sheppard had returned.

“What did Jeannie say now?” John asked, causing Rodney to jump a bit in his seat.

“You should come with a bell or something. A cat collar would do,” Rodney growled.

“Meow,” John said with a wink and a clawing action with his right hand.

Rodney rolled his eyes and grumbled, “You and my sister will be the death of me. What did the Wraith of the airlines have to say?”

“Our flight has been canceled. They are looking to find us the first available flights, but it looks like it won’t be until tomorrow.” John replied. “So, what did Mrs. Miller have to say?”

“Nothing that concerns you”, Rodney lied and avoided looking at John when he did. Rodney knew he could not lie to John, not when he was looking the man in the eyes that is.

“Why can’t we be picked up?” Rodney didn’t realize he had asked out loud.

“It’s not an emergency,” John answered.

“Fine!” Rodney wanted to be back on Atlantis because that was home. “Where are we going to sleep?”

“Found a room with one bed here at the airport hotel.” John shared.

“Does it have a pullout?” Rodney asked.

“Nope!”

“King, Queen, or standard?” Rodney wondered if Sheppard was holding something back.

“We’ll see when we get there,” John explained. “The hostess didn’t have more information other than one room with a bed.”

“Just stay on your side of the bed, Colonel.”

“I’m not the octopus in the bed, Doctor.”

“I love you too, John”

“Did Jeannie bug you about us holding hands again?” John asked.

“Have you told her about us?”

“Nope.”

“Then why does she keep encouraging me to hold your hand?”

“She’s a McKay. They know everything.”

“Smart ass.”

“Can I hold your hand?” John asked.

“Seriously, John!”

“No one will notice! They’re too busy with their own problems to notice two men holding hands.”

“You and my sister are demons spawned from the…”

“Love you too Mer!”
