Work Text:
[An opening shot of a beautiful night sky, a deep velvet black sparking with shimmering gemstone stars. As we watch, a shooting star falls out of the sky above a distant mountain.
As the perspective shifts to follow the falling star’s distant descent, a voiceover of Skizz talking starts to play.
He sounds a bit annoyed as he speaks.]
Many people see my
death as a tragedy
That is very wrong
In my opinion
[The scene changes to Skizz in his angelic form, a blue-green-gold light soul orbited by 7 golden rings that are studded with eyes of all shapes, sizes, and hues and an uncountable number wings that shine with so many colours at once that all one can register is a beautiful, pure white light.
He floats before Impulse, the demon’s horns, wings, and tail the only indicators that he is not human.
Seated in a chair behind Impulse is Skizz’s shell, a tan, dark haired man wearing a perfectly tailored suit with a pair of large white wings on his back.
Impulse grins and gestures at the shell, talking to Skizz inaudibly, as the voiceover continues.
Skizz now sounds almost amused as he continues to speak.]
They did not tell you,
When Apollo gave me wings,
They did not tell you
I knew I would burn in flames
[Skizz floats over to the shell and his rings align, exposing his soul to the shell.
There’s a flash, and all the floating rings are gone aside from a glowing golden halo that appears over the head of Skizz’s shell, and all the wings are gone aside from the 2 twitching on his back.
His eyes abruptly snap open and he slowly turns his head from side to side looking around amazed.
Skizz now sounds like he’s on the brink of tears despite audibly also having a smile on his face.]
I knew you see,
I knew the agony I would face
And as I fell,
I knew I did it for the sun
[Skizz faces forwards when Impulse steps closer to him with a huge grin on his face.
Briefly we see Impulse from Skizz’s perspective, and we see a corona of light shining around Impulse’s backlit head as he spreads out his arms to gesture Skizz closer, to come to him and embrace him.
Skizz’s voice lifts, his words a prayer, a benediction.]
As hot burning wax slithered
Down my spine,
As seductive kisses of agony
Peppered my skin and muscles,
I laughed.
[We cut back to the external perspective and Skizz standing up for the first time.
His movements are clumsy, uncoordinated as this is the first time he has truly experienced the pull and pressure of gravity being exerted on him.
He stumbles forwards and clumsily wraps his arms around Impulse and squeezes.
Impulse makes a face that indicates that Skizz is squeezing a bit too hard.
And all Skizz does in response to that is to throw back his head and inaudibly laugh, Impulse soon joining in as well.
Skizz’s voice is amused again.]
I laughed as where
I saw beauty. Others saw pain
I loved it you see,
It was addictive.
[The scene shifts to a later point where Skizz in his shell - suddenly without its suit sleeves - is being surrounded by a half circle of other angels of various types.
He’s looking at the ground, frowning, bare arms folded across his chest as he apparently is lectured by the other angels.
Skizz’s voice lifts high again, this time in anger.]
Even Dionysis
Would marvel at my insanity
There is no beauty
Without pain.
[The camera shifts to follow behind Skizz as he turns away from the other angels.
It remains firmly on the back of his head and we can see other angels scattering before him as he makes his way towards the edge of heaven’s borders.
He stops, leans forward, looking down over the edge. Over his shoulder we can see a vast landscape stretching out endlessly and directly below is the top of a mountain, a hibernating volcano with a distant speck of glowing red deep with the mouth.
Skizz leans back, takes a breath as he steels himself.
We switch perspectives to be in front of Skizz, looking at his face.
He looks serene, peaceful as he looks down at the ground so very, very, very far below.
He spreads his arms and wings out, closes his eyes, and then lets himself fall forwards.
We cut back to the falling star only now we can see the humanoid shape buried deep within the star, wings and shell burning away as he hurtles down, down, down into the Pit.
Skizz sounds deeper now, growlier.]
And now,
As I wait for judgement,
In the land of Hades.
I ask myself
[A final scene change to see Skizz swaying as he staggers to his feet, still in his shell though there are obvious changes to it.
The halo floating over his head is tarnished and fragmented into 7 pieces with all of his eyes exposed for all to see.
Encircling each of his arms are 3 equally tarnished and fragmented rings covered in equally visible eyes.
His wings now have pitch black feathers, the edges still glowing blue with the remnants of consuming soulfire.
He visibly winces, as he stands and he looks up at the distant hole in the ceiling where he had fallen through.
He then looks down and examines himself with an air of curiosity and grim satisfaction.
Voiceover Skizz whispers his question to himself so gently, almost reverently.]
“was it worth, the fall for the sun”
[Skizz looks away from where he has been contemplating his new claws to look up at a massive draconic beast with seven horns and seven wings and fourteen eyes and fourteen arms that approaches him and towers over his much smaller form.
It’s Impulse in all the repulsive beauty of his true form.
Skizz bares his new fangs in a smile as he holds out his arms in greeting, in an offering for a hug.
Impulse embraces him tightly as the screen fades to black.
Skizz’s voice is tired now, but also triumphant.]
And I answer
“yes. It was”
