Dragon's First Gold

Summary:

In some defense to everyone, Wrathion going through normal things younger drakes would go through wasn't something normal for both him and others around him to see.

Wrathion is happy to show his friend around his new home before he possibly doesn't see him again for who knows how long. Ebyssian just wants to be prepared for when his little brother does finally get to his heart's breaking point. Sabellian is still learning other stuff about his brothers.

Anduin wonders if he'll get out of the Obsidian Citadel without the usual dramatics black dragons tend to have.

AKA Wrathion hasn't gotten out of 'first love/crush' part of his youth, Ebyssian and Sabellian have to do damage control, and Anduin is the unfortunate 'first love/crush.'

Chapter 1: A Flight (Wrathion)

Chapter Text

It was supposed to be an attempt to bond and heal from all the horrors of Aberrus. Ebyssian had wished to find a way for the three of them to work out the troubles and bickering they had during their time in the caverns.

As he flew in between the mountain peaks, his laugh being its own roar as he heard Sabellian call after him, Wrathion was … normal? Yes, normal would be the word. He wasn’t entirely happy, he thought. There was still so much to do, at the Citadel, back in the caverns, everywhere.

But Ebyssian had been right in having the three of them spend some sort of calm time with each other now that the eldest brother and the youngest were not fighting over their father’s legacy. It was a simple yet powerful feeling to roam the skies that, maybe in another life, he would have known since his days as a whelp.

He gave another roar before looking back to see if the other two were still behind him. Sabellian had seen fit to rise to his challenge. It wasn’t like their arguments for the throne. This was… better? It felt better. Wrathion laughed as Sabellian let out a huff. Maybe this was indeed what Ebyssian had been hoping for back in the caverns. No, not maybe. Did hope for. He felt a bit of guilt as he looked back to the largest of the three of them that trailed behind. While the Aspect powers had not yet been retrieved, Ebyssian’s larger size compared to Sabellian and Wrathion would have had one think he had already been affected by being named the leader of their flight.

The Black Prince wondered if Ebyssian would get larger when the powers were indeed restored.

“Are you planning on ramming into the peaks?!” Sabellian’s voice boomed in time for Wrathion to dodge such an obstacle.

“Why brother! Do you doubt my flying capabilities now? Perhaps I hear the envy in your voice that I still am more spry than you?” he teased back. Him now paying attention to his flying certainly had nothing to do with the near miss of tragedy. Truly.

“Titans give me patience…” he heard Sabellian grumble.

“Sabellian, you know you only encourage him.” Ebyssian managed to swoop upwards to glide above the two, his chuckle deep in his voice. Even in his true form, it was hard for Wrathion to not imagine the guiding dragon as anything other than a tauren shaman.

“Ebyssian! I am wounded by such words! I am the prime example of-!”

“The Caverns already prove otherwise, Wrathion, so don’t you dare finish that sentence.”

“Sabellian.” Ebyssian’s voice groaned. Wrathion found himself snickering as he could almost hear the eye roll from the largest brother.

His red eyes glanced down to the rolling lands beneath them. Admiring the rolling green foliage just creeping on the burnt volcanic ground. He wondered how long it would take for the rains to let the volcanic soil grow new vegetation. It didn’t seem the part of the shores the Obsidian Citadel was on got much rain… maybe he could look more into it once they got back home. He was sure Ebyssian at least would like the idea of having the change of scenery around the hold.

The thought still got to him that he truly saw the place as home . There was a place he felt surely and entirely that he belonged.

The whine of a horse took him out of his thought. He whipped his head around. Not many of the adventures about the Isles brought such creatures.

“Hmm, it seems the expedition is still receiving new members,” Sabellian’s voice brought through the drake’s thoughts. The Black Prince’s attention was soon frozen though as he spotted the equine and its rider.

The stallion was nothing much of note, a simple chestnut steed with just a simple saddle and dark cloth draping it as it was nervous of the nearby heated grounds. Its owner, however, was a different story.

The hooded human had gotten off of the horse, trying to calm it by patting its snout and keeping the grip on its lead loose. The horse was having none of it though, jerking its head as its hooves tapped constantly against the path it was on. The struggle to calm the creature had the hood nearly off from the head of the human, the strands of gold hair gleaming in Wrathion’s red eyes.

He knew that shade of blond anywhere.

“Wrathion!” He barely heard Ebyssian roar after him as the drake dove down, the wind rushing pushing his ears as he narrowed down on the one person he missed the most all this time was now here

He was here.

The horse’s neighs became louder as it spotted his rapid descent, causing its owner to look up.

Years. It’s been years since he saw those blue eyes. Few for other dragons, too many in his own eyes.

In a flash of smoke, he switched to his visage, arms outstretched to tackle a friend he had long missed.

“ANDUIN!”

“Wrathion-!” The missing king of Stormwind barely got out before the black dragon collided with him, the two hitting the ground and tumbling over each other. Wrathion managed to roll them so that he was on top of Anduin, unable to hide an expression of pure relief and glee as he looked down at the blond.

“It’s been so long!” he practically chirped, a wide grin on his face as he took in the presence of his friend having been found once more. All before the presence of his brothers landing behind them would be remembered.

There was nothing that could ruin this day for sure in his mind.
