Chapter Text
And now, the final touch.
Miles carefully colored the flower, making sure it came out perfectly. Then, he placed his marker down next to him and admired the artwork he had drew. It was a drawing of him and Hobie Brown standing across from each other, with Hobie holding a bouquet of flowers. He must admit, he was proud.
Then, a thought came to his mind. What if he bought flowers for Hobie?
Miles soared out of his seat to get his piggy bank full of allowance money. He dumped the money onto his bed and started counting it. It was $38.47. He wasn’t exactly familiar with the price of flowers, so he hoped this was enough.
He put the money into his pockets and started walking outside his room. Then, he started walking toward the front door, thinking about Hobie. What will his reaction be? Will he be mad? What kinds of flowers does he like?
However, before he could think of an answer to these questions, his mami interrupted him. “Mijo! Where are you going?” Fuck.
He slowly turned around to see his mamá standing across from him in her pajamas. Oh yeah, it’s nighttime. Miles chuckled before replying, “Uh, just taking out the trash!”
Rio looked him up and down before stating, “You’re not carrying any trash.”
Oh.
Miles mentally facepalmed and awkwardly started giggling. “Uh— late April Fool’s joke?” Rio was not amused. “Mijo, I love you, but you need some sleep.”
Miles sighed gently. “Okay, mami.” He kissed his mamá on the cheek, then walked toward his room.
“I love you, Miles.” Miles turned to face her. “Love you too.” And with that, he silently shut his door.
Well, looks like he’s gonna have to sneak out. He put some pillows under his blanket to make it look like he was sleeping. Then, he changed into his Spider-Suit to swing around without raising suspicion.
He walked to his window before taking a deep breath and leaping out. He searched for a local flower shop before seeing one titled “Maria’s Flowers.” Miles grinned and started heading towards it, hoping it was open this late at night. As he landed in front of the building, he saw the lights were still on inside. He looked at the hours of the place. 11AM-11PM, it had just closed a few minutes ago. However, Miles still knocked on the door, seeing if any employees would let him in. After all, he was Spider-Man.
To his surprise, an employee emerged from the backroom and opened the door for him. “Hello, sweetie! What brings you here?” Miles looked around the store; It was filled with flower after flower. He obviously knew there were flowers, but not this much! He smirked and looked at the employee before asking, “What kinds of flowers do you have?”
The employee softly smiled before replying, “Oh, we have so many! What kind of flowers were you looking for in particular?” Miles thought for a moment. Should I get him roses? People usually bring those for people they like. What if he finds out I do like him because of that?! No, definitely not roses. What about tulips? Those are pretty basic and don’t mean anything. But that’s too plain. I need something uncommon that means something while still not making it too obvious what it means.
“Do you have something I can give to my crush that doesn’t make it too obvious I like them but still means I like them?” Miles realized how dumb that sounded and chuckled softly to himself. The employee didn’t seem to care, as she grinned and said, “Follow me; I have the perfect ones for you.”
The employee took Miles to the back of the store and opened a cabinet full of small whitish-yellow flowers. “This is yarrow,” she explained, “it’s an uncommonly gifted flower that can represent powerful feelings of love.” She then pulled out a bouquet of them and handed it to Miles. He must say, they were beautiful and just what he was looking for.
“How much does it cost?” Miles asked, still admiring the flowers.
The lady smiled and said, “On the house, just for you.”
Miles beamed and looked up from the flowers. “Really? You don’t have to.” However, she insisted on it. “No, it’s alright, sweetie. I already let you in past closing, so it’s no big deal.”
Miles’ smile grew bigger. “Wow, um, thank you so much! I’ll pay you back later on, I swear!” He moved over to the front door and waved at the employee. “Thank you so much! I never learned your name, ma’am?”
The woman smiled and answered, “It’s Maria. Goodbye, sweetie!”
Miles smiled while shooting his web-slinger and started swinging back home. It wasn’t until halfway he realized that Maria probably owned the store, which was something he probably should’ve grasped sooner.
Once he arrived home, he dressed back into his regular clothing and placed the flowers on his desk. He looked at the flowers, imagining Hobie’s reaction to receiving them. The thought of it made him smile and jump around a bit. He felt like a little kid that was having their first crush.
Hobie wasn’t just any crush though; He was different. Hobie was everything that Miles loved combined into a person. He was flat-out cool, exceptionally stunning, could play an instrument, and best of all, Hobie always supported Miles no matter what. Hobie had helped Miles when no one else would, and that made Miles fall 10 times harder for him.
Miles liked to believe he might have a chance, but he knew it wasn’t happening. Still, Miles already got flowers, so he was going to give them to him.
Miles loudly yawned. Okay, maybe tomorrow he will. Miles sighed and got into his bed. He felt like he was tossing and turning all night long until finally, he fell asleep. He dreamed of taking Hobie into a field of yarrows.
