Chapter Text
A woman's voice could be heard echoing through a rather large living room. She had been on a call with her ex husband for the last hour trying to coordinate their next court mandated family dinner. He had been against the idea in the beginning. But since his whole (failed) attempt to take over the galaxy and create a new empire, the court didn’t really care what he thought. It was either monthly dinners with his ex and both of their families, or rot away in jail. How it was between those two things was anyone’s guess. The court had hoped that some family time would change his ways.
Originally it was just the four of them, silently sitting around a table, no one daring to even speak. Then it turned into yelling matches that ended with someone storming out the door. Padme brought up the idea to bring in someone that all four of them trusted with their lives as a mediator when things got rough, that’s how Obi-wan got involved. But after spending one evening with the Skywalkers, he vowed never to do that again unless he had help. Which is how Cody ended up getting roped into this. One month the pair had brought their newly adopted son, Cal, to the dinner in hopes that he would get along with the twins. Which they did, he just preferred to watch the chaos from a distance.
Their once small family dinners kept expanding. It was meant for family only, but Padme made an expectation for Obi-wan, Cody, and Cal, since they were family. It was only when Leia hesitantly asked if she could invite her new boyfriend to the dinner that things really started to change. Padme had of course accepted Leia’s request and was excited to meet her daughter's new partner, Anakin on the other hand wasn’t told beforehand about it and wasn’t pleased. He reacted so negatively towards the family, but mainly Leia’s new partner, that Padme was seconds from calling her guards to drag him away.
“He’s trying to get better! I can feel it” Luke would say after every night gone sour. He’s always had hope that his father would return to the way he was before the short lived empire.
“Tell that to your sister. Or poor Han. I think he traumatized that poor boy.” Padme couldn’t help but sigh.
Despite the nightmare that was that evening, Han kept coming back. Partly in an attempt to earn Anakin’s approval, and to be there to protect Leia if needed. Anakin was the only one who ever complained about Han being there because ‘he wasn’t family’. Obi-wan tolerated him, but Han immediately got along with Cody and Cal. So he was allowed to stay.
Months went by of the eight of them having dinner together, Anakin was slowly opening up and beginning to feel like his old self again. Everyone at the table could feel the tension slipping away.
Back to the present moment, Padme had been arguing on the phone with Anakin for well over two hours now.
“No you can’t bring anyone! It’s hard enough having to plan a big enough meal to feed eight people. And that’s not even including the extra steps to get something with a decent enough texture so that Luke will eat it, and Leia’s hyper specific allergy!” the woman leaned back against a cabinet with a sigh.
“Padme, you don’t even cook the food though.” Anakin’s deep and robotic voice could be heard from the small projector on the table.
“I know that! But I still have to tell them what to make. So no you can’t bring anyone!”
“So Leia and Obi-wan can, but I can’t?”
Another loud sigh, “Stop acting like a child. Those two are different. Cody and Obi-wan are married so Cody is legally family now, and Han is Leia’s boyfriend. And unlike you, I happen to approve of him. You know this event is for family and partners only”
“Please..?”
“Just…who even is this person that you want to bring anyway?”
“Someone who will actually laugh at my joke's
Padme choked on her own spit in an attempt to not laugh, “All your fancy empire buddies ditched you remember. This family are the only friends you have.”
“I have…okay fine, one other friend. But he’s the one I want to bring”
Just as she was about to regretfully say yes to her ex-husbands request, she heard her son walk into the room.
“Mom! Can I uh…” He seemed slightly hesitant, like he wasn’t done preparing the correct question in his head.
“Let me guess, you want to bring someone to dinner tonight?” Padme crossed her arms as she watched Luke's face go from shock to a very excited nod. Taking that as a yes, she continued. “Sounds good to me, looks like everyone is bringing someone for tonight.”
“Even dad?”
“Somehow…yes…even your father”
Luke smiled wide and ran out the door before Padme could ask any questions about this mystery person he wanted to bring. With what felt like her hundredth sigh of the night, just with a small smirk this time, she turned back to the blue holo image of Anakin. “You can bring this mystery person. But if he makes any trouble or if you traumatize Luke’s guest like you did with Han- I will not hesitate to call the guards”
Not wanting to hear any more from him, she hung up and began readying the place for a larger amount of guests than it was used to.
Padme’s house wasn’t small, in fact it could very comfortably fit over twenty guests at a time. But so many of her guests tonight had such large personalities that it almost made the room feel small.
Obi-wan had shown up first, as always. With Cody and Cal in tow. As soon as they had arrived, BD-1 jumped off of Cal’s shoulder and ran straight for C3P0 and R2D2. The three droids had become a weird family of 3 on their own, and BD was always excited to share stories of his latest adventure with them. Meanwhile Obi-wan, Cody, and Cal assisted with setting the table, even though they didn’t need to. Once the table was all set, Luke and Leia emerged from their rooms and drug Cal back into Luke's room. Just like with BD-1- Cal had many stories to tell and the twins wanted to hear them all, as well sharing a few of their own. Since both twins had snuck out multiple times to go on adventures without their mother knowing, they learned the hard way to only swap stories while the older adults were setting up the table.
The older adults had also created their own ‘gossip spot’, aka sitting on the cold tile floor of the kitchen like a bunch of teenagers. Originally this was Padme’s decompressing spot during the dinners, but after Obi-wan had spotted her by accident, it just became their place to hide and talk about things (mainly Anakin). At some point over the last few months, Cody had gotten dragged into the gossip circle as well. So here they were, hiding before things had even begun.
“Do you think he’ll actually behave tonight?” Obi-wan mused, leaning his back against a cupboard door.
“I do hope so. He’s bringing someone this time, maybe that means he’ll be on his best behavior.” Padme stared at her hands, she wasn’t sure what to expect from tonight
“Anakin doesn’t know what it means to ‘behave’” Cody scoffed as he rested his head on Obi-wan’s thigh, staring up at the ceiling. His comment earned a laugh from the two.
“Wait- Did you say he’s bringing someone? All of the people that are still willing to speak to him are already going to be present.” Obi-wan brought his hand to his chin as he mindlessly scratched his bread in thought. “Could it be Ahsoka?”
“No, he said it was a he. Plus Ahsoka doesn’t want to talk to him, she always calls ahead whenever she visits to make sure that he’s not here.”
“...Could it be Rex?”
“Hell no, Rex doesn’t want to talk to him either. Last I heard He and Ahsoka were on the other side of the galaxy helping clean up his mess.” Cody’s words were bitter. But he was right. Rex and Ahsoka had been a massive help in the relief effort to rebuild after the empire. The empire had been extremely short lived, but it had still done its fair share of damage.
Before the trio could continue going back and forth trying to guess who the mystery guest was, the doorbell rang. Cody stood up first, then helped both Padme and Obi-wan off the floor. “Well, shall we start?”
Padme nodded and went to answer the door, thankfully for everyone currently present, it wasn’t Anakin. It was Han and a man in a helmet that none of them had seen before.
“Han! Good to see you. Who’s your friend?”
“No friend of mine ma’am, we just showed up at the same time. Looks like trouble to me” Han spoke with a shrug before he let himself inside.
Padme rolled her eyes as she turned in his direction. “Leia is with Cal and Luke in Luke’s room again.”
“Thanks Ms. Amidala” Han gave a small wave of his hand in thanks as he headed in the direction of Luke’s bedroom.
“Good I did get the right house- Luke had asked me to come here and with a building this big I thought that I had gotten the wrong address.” The man with the helmet finally spoke, his voice was soft and a little raspy. He sounded like he hadn’t slept decently in days. He was wearing beskar armor as well as a dark brown sash across his chest that had a large lump in the bottom of it, as if he were holding something.
“Oh! You’re Luke’s friend, please come in.” Padme stepped out of the way and allowed him inside. “He was so excited that I said yes that he didn’t bother telling me anything about you.”
“My name is Din Djarin, and this is my son Grogu” He pulled back part of the brown fabric to reveal a sleeping green child. “He’s asleep at the moment, but don’t worry about the noise. This kid has slept through a whole shoot out before. I just hope we’re not too much trouble.”
Padme was a bit taken aback by the fact that not only was Luke’s friend a Mandalorian, but a Mandalorian who was a father.
“I promise you won’t be a problem tonight dear, that problem won’t be showing up till later I’m sure”
After a few minutes of mingling, which mainly consisted of Luke excitedly introducing everyone to his new boyfriend Din and sharing the story of how they met. Everyone was shocked to say the least. Not in the fact that Luke had a boyfriend, but that he managed to get a Mandalorian with a kid to be his boyfriend. After talking with him a bit, everyone collectively agreed that Din was very polite and easy to get along with.
Padme had moved everyone to sit at the table, but they couldn’t start eating until the last two guests arrived. She was beginning to get annoyed since they seemed to be taking their sweet time getting here. Anakin had always had bad time management skills, but even this was pushing it. Everyone was hungry, but thankfully continued to chat amongst themselves as they waited.
The table was long, and could fit at least 20 people if needed to, but since this was a far more intimate gathering then a formal dinner party, the eight of them stuck to the left side of the table. Padme at the end as always, Cal, Cody, and Obiwan sat on her left, and the twins sat in between Han, Din, and Grogu to her right, with Han being closest to Padme.
“So…who are we waiting on?” Din asked as he adjusted the height of Grogu’s seat. He didn’t mean to sound rude with his question, Luke had just told him very little about tonight.
“My father,” Luke said simply.
“Oh, is he running late due to work or something?”
Padme let out a small sigh of motherly disappointment and sent a stern gaze towards her son. “Luke, what all did you tell your guest about tonight”
“That it was a family dinner!” Luke smiled at his mom before having a small realization. He turned to look at Din with wide, slightly concerned eyes. “Din…you do know who my father is…right?”
Anyone who's anyone has heard the stories of the Skywalkers. Anakin Skywalker was a famous name for all the wrong reasons, a powerful Jedi Master/General turned Sith Lord. And because of the last name, his family was also well known. Especially since Padme went by Padme Skywalker for a little while, and she was a senator during that name. It wasn’t much of a stretch to figure out who Luke and Leia were. So when Luke asked this question to his dear partner, he expected a confident ‘of course I do’ with a slightly pained look in his eye. Instead he was met with a look of blissful ignorance. The others at the table had stopped their conversations to watch this interaction, all equally confused by Din’s hesitation.
“No? Why would I know who your father is” Is all he said. Everyone traded glances, all equally confused and concerned. How could Din not know who Luke’s father is, everyone knew. They had to be careful where/how they went in public because they were a part of his family.
Before anyone could explain to the confused Mandalorian, the man in question finally arrived. His helmet was off, showing off his short brown hair that he had desperately been trying to grow back, deep sunken yellow eyes, alongside his scar ridden face. He no longer had his ‘Darth Vader’ suit, but the suit he wore was similar to it. Mainly because he still needed a suit like it to keep himself alive. The new suit was a chocolate brown instead of black, and was made a similar material as the old jedi robes instead of having an almost leathery feeling to it. He didn’t look like the great Anakin Skywalker, nor he also didn’t look like ‘Darth Vader’ anymore, but somewhere in between.
“Sorry for being so late, Boba got caught up with…work.” Anakin said as soon as he opened the door. He was met with a variety of stares, mainly disappointed stares from Obi-wan, Cody, and Padme. He took that as a cue to move faster, lest he ruin the night before it had already begun. Anakin quickly found his seat next to Obi-wan.
In all the commotion of Anakin’s arrival, no one had noticed the man that had entered with him. He wore armor that looked much like Din’s, just painted green and red. The man quietly followed Anakin to the table and sat down next to him, taking his helmet off as he did. The man had surveyed the room immediately upon entering, and was quick to recognize many of the faces at the table. His new plan was to go as long as possible without being noticed. Otherwise things would get even more awkward then they already were. So he just sat quietly, letting the family bicker amongst themselves.
That dream was entirely too short lived. Even though everyone was focused on Anakin or doing their hardest to not look in his direction, Padme had been the one to mention the newest presence at the table.
“Well, aren’t you going to introduce us to the person you wanted to bring so badly it took multiple hours to convince me?”
“Right! Everyone, this is-”
“BOBA FETT?” Everyone erupted in unison, just with differing emotions in their voice.
“Oh-” Anakin had started, before being interrupted again.
“You’ve all met this man before?” Padme questioned.
“He’s a good friend of mine!” Din spoke up first, even with his helmet on it was clear he was happy to see him.
“Friend? This is the guy that stuck me in carbonite! Luke and Leia had to sneak out and come get my sorry ass” Han added, crossing his arms as he shot a glare in Boba’s direction.
“I’ve worked with him a couple times taking down other bounty hunters” Cal chipped in. There was no malice or distaste in Cal’s words, it seemed like they were friends of circumstance.
“I knew his father more so than I knew him, but I have heard the stories. He’s a clone like Cody.” Obi-wan sent a small smile in Padme’s direction, hoping to give an attempt at an explanation.
“Don’t lump me in with him. He’s favoritism at its finest.” Cody scoffed. His words were more annoyed than hateful, almost sibling like. “What is he even doing here? I thought this was a family only gathering?”
“Now Cody, Padme allowed it and the rest of us have been allowed to bring someone, so I believe it’s only fair that Anakin gets a plus one as well” Ever the mediator, Obi-wan seemed unsure by Boba’s presence but did not allow his doubts to come across in his words.
The room felt tense, but for once it wasn’t Anakin’s fault. Everyone sitting at the table already knew Boba Fett, and what kind of person he was. The bounty hunter decided that showing up was a terrible idea. Of course when he agreed to this he had no idea that he was going to be face to face with people he’s already met before, however now that he knew what he was up against, he was ready to leave at the earliest possible moment. So he reached for his helmet and spoke in a deep monotone voice that always sounded so sure of its words “I’m going to leave.”
As he reached for the helmet, he felt Anakin place a quick hand on his shoulder. Boba looked over only to find the pleading eyes of the once terrifying Darth Vader, begging him to not leave. He told the ex-sith that he only agreed to tag along because it sounded entertaining. But deep down they both knew that wasn’t it. Neither Boba or Anakin had many friends, if any, or family to be with. Boba was currently traveling alone at whatever pace he deemed fit, and for some reason Anakin kept calling him. And for an even more unknown reason, Boba kept answering. So now he was here, surrounded by faces he knew for different reasons, with piercing yellow eyes staring right through his soul.
“You don’t have to do that. Obi-wan is right. I’ve allowed everyone else a second guest. I suppose it’s just odd when it’s my ex-husband of all people.” Padme flashed him a sad smile. Boba only set her a nod in response and returned his arms to his sides. The others could have sworn that they saw Anakin flash a smile Boba’s way.
“So…are we good to eat now…” Cal said after a minute of awkward silence, earning a small laugh from the table. Padme nodded and the group began dishing out the food.
The food had gotten a bit cold thanks to waiting on Anakin and his guest for over an hour, but it was still good. During dinner, Din reintroduced himself and Grogu to Anakin. Anakin’s first thoughts was that Din was quiet and polite, which would be a good influence on his rather reckless son. Seeing Grogu was a bit strange for most people at the table due to his resemblance to Yoda, but the kid just wanted to sit down and eat everything he could. Anakin may be an idiot, but he’s not going to pick a fight with a baby. At least not yet. Moving his attention back to the Mandalorian he noticed something a bit unusual, Din didn’t seem tense or threatened at all by Anakin’s presence. He was about to ask about it before Obi-wan whispered to him.
“No he doesn’t know who you are, Force knows how he doesn’t. But I think it’s best to keep it that way. You don’t want to scare him off, like you nearly did with Han”
Anakin nodded, but instead of whispering back or keeping his mouth shut entirely, he spoke at full volume. “I didn’t scare Han off! I can’t get rid of him!”
“Dad!”
“Hey I can hear you talking smack over there old man”
“Here we go again…”
Leia, Han, and Padme all spoke in unison.
Anakin chose to ignore all three of them and looked at Din, who still had an empty plate.
“I hope I’m not freaking you out to the point where you can’t eat. Don’t worry, you seem nice so I’m okay with you sticking around. Probably be a good influence on Luke, unlike the other one ”
“That’s alright sir, but I’ll eat later.” He knew that it was a dinner event, so he was aware of the fact that we wouldn’t be able to eat anything while there. But he didn’t want to seem rude by refusing Luke's invitation just because of that. Thankfully Luke promised to save a portion to give him for later.
“Why not just take the helmet off and eat now?” Anakin was asking honestly but his question earned a groan from multiple people at the table. And even a mumbled ‘dank farik you’re stupid’ from Boba.
“I’m a mandalorian sir” Din put simply. Thankfully he’s used to the questions and didn’t take any offense to Anakin’s confusion, even though some others at the table did on his behalf.
“Well yeah I can see that, but so is Boba-”
“No I’m not”
“No he isn’t”
More talking in unison, this time from Boba himself and Cody.
“You’re not? But the armor is the same as Din’s.” Again, Anakin was speaking honestly, he just didn’t seem to remember much about Mandalorian culture. Despite visiting Mandalore multiple times before he went dark.
“This armor was my fathers, who was a Mandalorian. However he and Din’s people were not the same. Din’s people view removing their helmet in front of others as sacrilege. He will eat later” Boba stated simply.
“Oh shit my bad”
“It’s alright sir, I’m used to questions like that. No harm done”
Anakin sent a small smile at Din before continuing with his meal. The rest of the table was slightly stunned by the whole interaction. This had been the calmest conversation seen at this table in months. Din was somehow not worried or afraid or even angry being around Anakin, and even called him ‘sir’. Unbeknownst to the rest of the group, most of that was because Din really didn’t want Luke’s father to hate him, because then Din would have to stop seeing Luke. That fear wasn’t because of who Luke’s father was as far as being one of the people that was in control of the empire, but simply because he was Luke’s father.
“So let me get this straight” Han felt his eye twitch as he slammed his hands on the table, making everyone turn his way.
“Han don’t start.” Leia pinched the bridge of her nose.
“No no, I gotta know. Mr. shiny armor Mandalorian gets a ‘oops my bad’ and I get violently threatened on my first day? Don’t you dare think that I’ve forgotten that! Talk about favoritism”
“Don’t take that tone with me boy. You’re a bad influence on Leia, I’ve also changed a lot since then!” Anakin adamantly put down his spoon and pointed a stern finger at Han.
“How am I a bad influence! I’m a joy to be around!”
“You’re a smuggler! And don’t think I’ve forgotten the age gap between you two”
“SAYS THE ONE WHO BROUGHT A BOUNTY HUNTER!” Han jumped out of his chair and fully raised his voice.
“DO NOT RAISE YOUR VOICE AT ME BOY” Anakin did the same, his rageful dark side finally showing its true colors. Boba placed a light hand on the small of Anakin’s back, he took that as a cue to close his eyes and take in a nice deep breath. Once his breathing no longer sounded robotic and forced, he opened his eyes and spoke at a normal volume. “This is exactly why I already approve of Luke’s choice. He’s been nothing but polite. You however. Need to go.”
His words may have been back to a normal volume, but each word had more venom than the last. This was no longer playful argument time at the dinner table, those words were a threat. A threat that Han couldn’t help be spooked by. With feigned confidence he yelled out “FINE” before heading out of the dining room and towards the front door.
Other than Leia yelling at her father for being such an ass to her boyfriend again , the rest of the tablet was silent. Trading glances as if they weren’t sure what to do next. With a sigh that was too shaky for anyone's comfort, Padme got up and began collecting the empty dishes. Once she had a decent stack in her hands, she headed to the kitchen. Ignoring the fact that Leia and Anakin were still yelling at each other. From the kitchen she could hear Obi-wan's voice as well, trying to mediate the best he could.
She placed the dishes into the sink for someone to deal with later, and let out another shaky breath. She closed her eyes in an attempt to calm herself down. She didn’t like hearing everyone fight even though she highly expected it to happen. Anakin and Han have never agreed on anything, the only thing that really kept them both in line was Leia being present. She hoped that one day Anakin would return to the way he was when he was still just a Jedi Knight, and things would finally start to go the right way for them. But that goal seemed farther and farther away with each passing day.
“You look like you could use a drink”
The voice startled her out of her spiral, she opened her eyes and noticed that Cody had followed her into the kitchen. She quickly noticed that he had another stack of dishes in his hands and moved out of the way so he could set them down.
“Yeah. I think I still have some wine in the cellar, but I don’t want to hide in here all night.”
“You don’t?” Cody raised an eyebrow, “Because I certainly do. They’ll cool off on their own, they always do. Even with Obi-wan's help, those two have always been too alike when it comes to how frustratingly stubborn they are.”
“But what about the others?”
“Cal faked getting a call from his ‘adventuring party’ as he calls it, and walked away. It’s something he does pretty often at home when he wants to escape a situation. I don’t really care where Boba went and I believe Luke and Din are just sitting there talking in between it all, unbothered as always.”
Padme let out a tired groan and slid down the cupboard and onto the floor. Letting her legs stretch out, but she hid her face in her hands. “Just once, I’d like a nice family meal”
Cody let out a soft chuckle and sat next to her on the floor, “With this group? I don’t think that’s possible. Anakin has never been able to keep calm during a group setting, even before he turned the whole galaxy into a shitshow. He may get better once he and Han stop arguing every five seconds, but until Anakin approves of him- we’re stuck like this.”
Padme let out a huff and leaned onto Cody’s shoulder, removing her hands from her face and allowing them to land in her lap. The pair sat in silence for a while, they could still hear the three loud voices emanating from the dining room. Normally Cody’s shoulders were Obi-wan’s pillows and Obi-wan’s only, but Padme was a special exception. They two had clicked as friends shortly after Obi-wan had come clean to her about his dating life. So during the war, Cody and Padme bonded over stories of their respective Jedi. They found a weird comfort in not being the only ones hiding a secret. And with the fall of the empire, and the return of Cody’s free will, Obi-wan and Cody had stayed with Padme more often than not. She needed all the help she could get with the twins. As well dealing with being the ex-wife of Anakin Skywalker. Thankfully it didn’t take long for their close friendship to pick up where it left off.
“Tonight has been so weird.” Padme finally said.
“That’s an understatement” Another soft laugh escaped Cody’s lips. “That Din kid has no idea what's going on, does he.
“Exactly! I would sort of understand not knowing who I am. I am a senator but he’s not from this part of space. But Anakin?!”
“He called him sir, nearly immediately. That’s how you know that he has no clue what's going on” The pair laughed quietly together at Cody’s comment.
“And then there’s the man that Anakin brought…”
“Yeah. Him.” Cody’s smile was quick to move into a frown.
“What do you know about him?”
“Well, just like Obi-wan said he’s technically a clone like me, just without the advanced aging the rest of us got. Jango, or Prime as we used to call him since he’s the guy who we all look like, wanted one to raise as a son for some reason and that ‘son’ was Boba. He hated Jedi from an early age because Windu killed his dad. Can’t really blame him on that one honestly. But these days he’s a bounty hunter.”
“So…my ex-husband brought a bounty hunter to a family and partners only dinner…” Padme turned her head to look up at Cody, as if looking at him would change the truth. “I mean, I know that’s what Han yelled. But- Han is always getting into trouble with different people…”
“This time he was telling the truth.”
Padme groaned and slid her hands down her face.
“I’m not sure what all you noticed, but I don’t think their relationship is strictly professional or even just platonic either.” Cody continued.
“What do you mean?”
“When Boba was about to leave, the speed that Anakin turned to stop him- I’ve only ever seen him look that desperate whenever he looked at you or Rex during the War. And when those two were starting their shouting match, I saw Boba place a hand on his back and he instantly stopped yelling. And if there’s a face I know how to read, it’s that one. Whether they know it or not…something is there.”
Padme was quiet for a few moments before speaking with pure disbelief in her voice, “Anakin is no longer allowed to bring up his distaste of Leia's choices in men. That hypocrite.”
“And that’s putting it lightly.” Obi-wan surprised them both with his presence as he plopped down on Cody’s other side, mimicking Padme by resting his head on Cody’s shoulder.
“What? Am I just the living pillow now?” Cody’s words were playful and comfortable.
“Mhm, always have been my dear” Obi-wan hummed, feeling his eyelids close the moment his head hit Cody’s shoulder
“How bad is it?” Padme had to know.
“Do either of you remember when Ahsoka stole all of his candies from his hidden snack stash back on The Resolute? Or when Fives shot Rex in the leg by accident?”
Cody thought back to the incidents in question. The snack stash incident had been harmless. Ahsoka had found a small compartment filled with candy and other snacks, hidden away in the gym under a stack of training mats. She knew they were Anakins, thanks to the big note ‘PROPERTY OF GENERAL SKYWALKER’ on top of the box. She figured that she could just pay him back for whatever snacks she ate. Turns out some of them were gifts for or from Padme and Anakin was beyond pissed.
As far as the Fives incident, it was really a harmless accident. A group from the 501st were running training simulations during one of the dull and boring travel days on board the ship. Everything was going well, until Fives missed a shot and ended up hitting Rex in the leg by accident. Thankfully they were just training blasters, but it still hurt like hell and gave Rex a pretty nasty electric burn scar on his thigh. It was just an unlucky day to be Fives. Rex was already having a terrible day thanks to things that are only known to Cody and will remain that way. And then he had to spend the rest of the night in the medbay because of a small slip up. The next morning, he was still pissed off and ended up going off on Fives.
During both instances, each pair went nearly a full week without being able to even see each other without arguing. So someone called Obi-wan for help. Well most specifically Rex called Cody during the snack incident, and then Jesse called Cody during the training incident. After he had told Obi-wan about the issue(s) the Resolute was having, he took his ship and flew all the way to them. Upon arrival he sat the two down in a room with no one else and no other distractions, and just made them look at each other. They could move freely if they wanted to, but something about Obi-wan’s demeanor each time made both pairs almost scared to move. This solution had somehow worked both times. Ahsoka and Anakin had walked out of that room laughing together, and Rex apologized to Fives for coming off so strong.
That’s what he had done for those two. He put Anakin and Leia in the walk-in wine cellar, just as he’s had to do in the past. Not as many times as one would think, but enough to know that it works. The walk-in cellar also doubles as a way of physically cooling down Anakin when he’s in a fit of rage. Obi-wan has been trying to freeze the anger out of him for decades
“Uh oh” the other two replied in sync.
“Exactly. It seems to be working. So I am going to sit here a moment and catch my breath”
