A talk in the tub

Summary:

Work Text:

Presently, Adam wanted nothing more but to fall asleep in the warmth of his bath and the sensation of gentle hands working shampoo into his scalp.

The hands in question belonged to Ronan. His lover for life. The best decision he had ever made. The person he could always count on. His loving, dedicated husband.

He and Ronan had had their rough patches, but their commitment and love hadn't allowed them to forever turn away from each other. The support system of their friends, family, and their own drive to make any problem right, worked well for them whenever they needed it.

Adam opened his heavy eyes when his lover's hands left his head. The only light (candlelight) in the room danced on the bath walls. "Close your eyes again," Ronan asked. Adam complied as warm water spilled over his head and traveled down his shoulders and back into the bathwater.

Adam sighed and leaned his head further back, which caused a laugh to escape from Ronan's lips. "Don't fall asleep on me, Parrish. Don't wanna accidentally waterboard you; Gansey would be devastated."

Adam smiled and hummed, "If you somehow offed the love of your life I think you would have more problems on your hands than Gansey. Like my ghost that will kill you in your sleep in retaliation."

Another cup of water poured over his head. "Wow. You're the love of my life? How do you know that?" Adam didn't have to open his eyes to see the grin that had leaked into his words.

Adam twirled the wedding band on his finger. "I'm not even going to dignify that with an answer."

Ronan let air out of his nose from a failed laugh. He ran his fingers on Adam's scalp and face, tracing his freckles to his shoulders, where the touches turned more into a massage. Adam shifted himself so his back faced Ronan completely. "God, you're always so good at that, Lynch."

"Anything for your old bones, Parrish."

Adam smiled and relaxed further from the massaging and the soft touches of the water moving against him.

If he were still living at the trailer park, this moment would never have been a dream he could picture. Being in a marriage that was bonded together with love and not money or fear, having a life he could be proud of–hell, even owning the bathtub he was currently in was a dream he would have never thought up. It was simple and white and the paint may have been chipping at the corners, but it was his and not some smelly landlord's.

Adam threw his head back and grabbed Ronan by his shirt collar–the simple t-shirt fit stupidly well on him and it had been ruining Adam's concentration all day–and kissed him.

The kiss was like and unlike every one they had shared before. Love on love with a comfort that would never leave. It was a comfort that Adam had come to only expect from Ronan. It was all spikes that, when read inbetween the lines, turned into roses and impossible things that Adam never could look away from. Ronan was made of never-ending puzzles, and Adam would solve every single one of them.

Ronan nudged Adam to turn around, and he complied for the better angle. They kissed until Adam's whole body felt impossibly warm and then broke apart, only to lean together again for a hug.

"Ugh," Ronan sighed, "Now my shirt is all fucking weird."

"Well who decided they wanted to lean into a bath for a hug?"

Ronan growled, but there was no heat to it. He only nuzzled his face further into the corner of Adam's neck and shoulder as an answer.

This is definitely something Adam would never take for granted.

Notes:

Kinda proud of this one tbh :3
