“Bloodsucker.” He greeted, leaning one elbow against the bar and crowding into Adam’s space as much as was possible when there was a long wooden slab between them, “How’s it going?”
Adam couldn’t stop the look of disgust from crawling onto his face, but he quickly tamped it down into an apathetic expression, “What do you want?”
“No warm welcome?” The man mocked.
“For you?” Adam responded? “Not likely.”
“Seems like everything worked out well for you.” The man rapped his knuckles against the bar and looked Adam up and down in a slow movement, “All things considered.”
If Adam could blush, he would have.
The first time Adam had seen this man, he hadn’t thought much about him, a little bit too panicked at that moment. But now that he was right in front of him, looming into his space, Adam realised that he was really quite attractive, which was infuriating. He hated it when mean people were attractive, because it always seemed like such a waste.
[AKA Adam is a vampire, Ronan is a werewolf, and their friends have to deal with their homoerotic tension for far too long]

The boy who worked the graveyard shift at Brazenhead Books was bird-thin, and pale, and kind of scowl-y. He was always reading enormous dry texts with titles like Tort Law and Alternatives and Intro to Comparative Constitutional Law. He drawled like Matthew McConaughey and the hair just above his right ear never lay flat.
Ronan was probably in love.

It’s a momentary lapse of emotional regulation, if one is generous. An absolute fucking meltdown, if one is honest.
When Adam comes back into his body, he’s lying on his bed, empty styrofoam staining his duvet with red chili oil, blank-eyed scrolling through his LinkedIn feed of job openings at Harley-Davidson for motorcycle engineers. He doesn’t want to work for Harley; he’s got brand loyalty to Honda. Also, being a mechanic again would be backsliding, and he is absolutely, most certainly, not backsliding.
No, he just needs a sabbatical. A break from reality. Something temporary. Remote. Far from Virginia.
Then he sees it: "Fire lookout."

The guy pays with cash and gives the room a final look from the counter. “Weird,” he says to Ronan. “But nice.” Then he nods and finds a table.

"“Another doctor, Dick?” Ronan jerked his head towards him.
“Yes, you’re in a hospital. Isn’t that strange?” Gansey sniped back. “Dr. Parrish, this is Ronan Lynch, the bane of my existence. Ronan, this is Dr. Parrish. You’ll be under his care while I’m in surgeries, he’ll have some other responsibilities, but he’s going to try and figure out what’s wrong with you.”
“Nothing’s wrong with me,” Ronan grumbled.
“Is that why you’re wearing that gown then?” Adam quipped."
Adam is a surgical intern at Cabeswater General Hospital, just trying to get enough sleep and maybe get some time in the OR. When Gansey suggests he should work on connecting with patients, he introduces him to firefighter, Ronan Lynch, and his feels his world start to shift, maybe just a little bit.
