Work Text:

You sigh, wiping the sweat off your forehead as you also push your hair that’s sticking onto your forehead aside. Your eyes wander around the garden that seemed like it took you a whole lifetime to complete as the leaves of the slowly growing plants and the newly established dirt glisten from the beaming sunlight. The summer seeds planted into the ground in astonishment, hand on your hip.

As you’re staring at the ground you see a silhouette becoming bigger from behind, making you turn around with a raised eyebrow only to see the person you look forward to seeing everyday. “Finished, darling?” he says with a smirk, as you look over your shoulder before fully turning around, smiling at your novel-writing husband, Elliott.

The sun on his glowing skin— making it hard to see his specific facial structures almost seems like he just walked out of heaven.

You turn back to your work, turning the back of your dirty glove, placing it against your forehead. Working on a farm by yourself might seem like a bore and just a complete waste of energy for some but to you, when you know that you have a husband that never fails to greet you with a smile no matter how his day goes and praises your every achievements— it might not be so bad to do any of this at all.

Earlier and most of the time while you work outside in the your backyard, Elliott takes over as if he’s a housewife, doing things such as washing the clothes and cleaning up the house, and once he was done with that he would read a book while glancing at you every now and then, admiring you tending to your crops or feeding your chickens.

Cheesy— you know and tell him all the time, but you can never help but to crack a smile each time.

“Yeah,” you sigh as you place your tools in your wooden chest, then stretch your limbs from all that work.
“finally done for the day.”

Since you were chopping wood and raking out weeds all day, you were pretty strong and Elliott loved that about you.

“Come inside, I have a surprise awaiting your presence, my love.” Elliott cooed, before walking to the house, you not being too far behind.

“Is that so?”

You walked up the steps, Elliott holding the door open for you, and your mouth hung slightly agape as you entered.

The house was decorated from head to toe, covered in romantic decorations such as roses on the walls, candles set on every countertop, including the dinner table, and as you took a step you felt a rose petal at your foot.

“This looks beautiful Elliott, you must've been so busy all day!” you exclaim, looking at him with excitement in your eyes. “Let me take a shower first to get all this dirt off me, then I'll join you at the dinner table.”

“Of course, I wouldn't want you to dine in such uncomfortable clothing.” Elliott says before giving you a kiss on the forehead, watching you smile as you head upstairs.

~~~
A few moments later, you come down the stairs in a black dress with a silver heart necklace on, nothing too fancy but not very casual either.
You see Elliott staring at you dreamily, hand on his chin, and a wide smile, waiting for you to sit at your seat.
“Oh dear, what’s all this for?” you ask as you sit down across from him, looking at the baked fish he must’ve just taken out the oven.
“You work oh so hard all day long, so I wanted to prepare a little something for your tireless work. It’s not much but it’s something.” Elliott claims while getting up to get some of the pomegranate wine you made with the ones you found in the bat cave. Surprisingly, they were pretty high quality, so you didn’t have to worry about making rotten wine or anything.
He pours some wine into glasses just for each of you before handing one off to you, while setting the other one onto his side of the table.
Raising the tip of the glass to your lips, you take a sip and taste the sweet wine, giving yourself a mental pat on the back for making it pretty good.
You see his eyes slightly light up as he takes a sip as well, pomegranate being one of his favorite fruits so this wine was amazing to him. “What an excellent batch of wine you’ve made my love.” you thank him and turn your attention to the food.
Though Elliott did live in a cabin before he moved in with you, he learned a few things from Gus since he went to the bar a lot.
Willy also taught him a few things about cooking fish since Willy basically caught them for a living.
“The fish looks really nice, smells great too.” you say, taking a whiff of the scent the fish brings and hums, the smell of the spices wafting up to your nose making you at ease.
“Of course.”
~~~

Once you both were done, you offered to clean the dishes but he refused, slightly snatching the dishes away so he could clean them, resulting in getting a giggle out of you.

You sit down on the couch, awaiting for your husband to come sit along with you, which was not soon after.

He sits down next to you, pulling you closer to him and giving you a kiss on the cheek.
“So, was dinner good my love?” He asked, turning your face to his.

“It was great, you didn’t need to but thank you for this. Honestly all this farm work is tiring and it’s nice to finally get a break after a while” you say, resting your head on his shoulder, schooching yourself into his lap so he was basically holding you.

“I'm glad you loved it, my muse. It’s no one’s job but mine to make my wife the happiest she can be.” His smile slightly falters and you look up at him. “What’s wrong Elli?”

“I just feel as if I haven’t had enough help, since I am not too good with farm work, so I try to clean up the house as much as I can so when you come home you can relax without a worry in mind.”
You put a hand up to his cheek, stroking his cheekbone and softly smiling.

“Elliott, you’ve done more than I could ask for. I don’t ask much of you because you are always so busy with your novels.” you remark, Elliott growing a surprised look on his face.

“My dearest, nothing will be more important to me than you. I would stop writing forever if it meant I could be nothing but loyal to you.” He rests his forehead against yours, the warmth comforting the both of you.

You pull his face closer, feeling his soft lips on yours . He seems taken back for a moment but he soon returns the kiss, tucking a random strand of hair behind your ears. The kiss was nothing but passionate and gentle, Elliott loved taking his time when kissing the love of his life, savoring the moment.

You both pulled away, staring into each other's eyes for a few moments before embracing each other, hearing your heartbeats thump in excitement.

“Let’s watch a movie for the rest of the night shall we?” Elliott announces, grabbing the remote and flicking through the channels.

Once he found a movie, he grabbed a blanket and set it over you two, enclosing any space that was left between you both.

~~~
A few hours later, Elliott looked at your sleeping form, your eyes shut beautifully and your breathing steady, he couldn't help but smile as if you were not only the woman of his dreams— but the maker of them.
He turns off the TV and strokes your cheek, holding you in his arms.
“You are my inspiration, my muse, my starlight in the beautiful night sky.” he muttered before falling asleep next to the only one dearest to him, holding onto you protectively.
