Summary
Beneath her hands was the delicate machinery of Boothill's throat.
"And you're sure you want to trust me with this?" Akelei asked, awkwardly straddling his thigh as he sunk into the couch of her motel room.
Boothill nodded, though his head was already leaning over the back of the couch to keep his hair out the way. He looked like a chicken trying to peck at the Sun. And, when he opened his mouth, a bunch of garbled speech came out. Metallic, staticy, and drowning out the faint sound of a language she couldn't understand. She could see the internal machinery moving as if it were muscles, a sight that fascinated her as much as it freaked her out.
Yep. Weird.
"Alright, alright. I'll... try. But no guarantees, okay? Don't shoot me if I mess you up more."
Boothill's eye squinted at her, but he didn't respond. Just sat there, observing her in rare silence.
Time to get to work, she supposed.

Summary
Boothill was, physically, more machine than man. He may be himself at the end of the day, but nothing would change the fact he was all steel and bolts. It didn't bother him though. He'd chosen this life, and he was more than happy to forgo comforts of the flesh if it made hunting down them IPC bastards easier.
Plus, he still had some sensation. His tongue was mostly organic and could still taste, even if he had grown an appreciation for the finer (and stronger, mechanical) things in life. He had a few organic components in his chest that could feel the pulse of electricity or the vibration of his guitar. The one that seemed to shock people the most, though, was his face itself.
"Your skin is real?" you said, eyes wide woth shock that turned to wonder.
Boothill nodded, leaning against your desk as you buffed out some scuffs on his hand. "Yup. Is that really so surprisin'? What the fork *would* it be?"
...
"Does it feel?"
(In which Boothill lets himself indulge in a bit of special treatment from his favorite mechanic)

Summary
“Hey farmer, won’t you let me marry you?”
He finds himself leaning towards your hand that caresses his cheek, and you look at him with all the reverence and love and he feels himself calm despite the prickle at the back of his neck; the expectations of a happy son and bright golden boy lifted from his shoulders for the moment and all he is your Sam.

Summary
In a way, they are the same: the left-behind shadows of a Xianzhou legend. Perhaps that is why he seeks her out to begin with. Of course, concerns pertaining to the Arbor are important—the part of his powers he shares with his previous incarnation pushes him into action.
While sealing the Arbor is a task Dan Feng would do, coming to Bailu is entirely Dan Heng’s.or: Dan Heng and Bailu find in each other a companionship grounded in a shared, complicated history.

Summary
People keep coming up to Kaveh to congratulate him. Kaveh doesn’t really know why, and he’s a little too scared to ask at this point, so he heads back home, content if not a little bemused.
He is, unfortunately, reminded of it the very next day, when the door slams open and Al-Haitham stalks in. “Mind telling me why everyone was congratulating me today?” he demands. “About your pregnancy?"
Or: Al-Haitham is, without a doubt, the most annoying person Kaveh knows. Maybe the world’s second-most annoying person can help Kaveh figure him out.
