   Summary

   After ten-year-old Shuichi Saihara is accidentally left behind at school, Osamu Dazai finds him just after leaving the Port Mafia.

   After some miscommunication, Dazai comes to believe Shuichi is an orphan.

   So Dazai adopts (and thus unwittingly kidnaps) a child.

   (Or: Shuichi’s uncle is canonically a detective and Dazai happens to be a detective, so hear me out-)
