Chapter Text
Sonic thought this was going to be it. That... Maybe things wouldn't be so bad now. Sure, he missed his alternate friends, but he hoped they were doing alright.
It wasn't long before things began to go haywire around Green Hill. The Paradox Prism was still glowing even brighter through odd shockwaves, and it's energy pulses.
Tails kept trying to figure out what they could do, but because they kept frying their systems they didn't have much luck. But maybe... Sonic could contact someone else with more knowledge on prism energy to figure out what's happening.
So he asked Tails if he could get to Nine, and he got to work designing a portal generator.
Which is... Where they were at now.
Sonic was patiently waiting for the machine to be finished, with Tails hard at work on it.
"Okay... I almost got it." Tails said, finishing up the portal generator. He handed over a bracelet for Sonic to wear.
He slipped it on over his glove, gazing at it. "What does this do?"
"It'll let you travel the Shatterspaces. I've implanted some prismatic energy inside so now you can go between worlds."
"Yeah... And then what?"
"Then you... Travel between worlds?"
"Right, yeah. Gotcha."
"Also the bracelet will generate a portal for you to teleport back here, so you don't have to navigate all over the place."
"Thanks, lil buddy. Now, just gonna check on Nine. Bye!" Sonic sped through the portal.
"Okay, bye Sonic!" Tails waved goodbye.
"So... Back at it, again?" Amy asked.
"Oh! Hey Amy, how are you?"
"Doing... Fine. Really, but Eggman is still on the loose. With Sonic gone, we-"
"It's alright, Amy. I also added secret communication to the tech he has so we'll stay in touch."
"That's good. But... I'm sure Rouge is bringing Shadow on board to cover for Sonic. I just hope that we'll be able to get through this."
"Yeah, same here."
Sonic flew through the empty Shatterspace, landing swiftly into The Grim. He looked around, seeing how much open vegetation there is.
"Sonic!" Nine called out. He immediately gave him a hug.
"Hey Nine, what's up-"
"Shh! We gotta hide!" Nine quickly pulled Sonic to his lab, then underground.
"Okay, uh... Mind telling me what's going on?" he asked.
"The Chaos Council are back, and found this new energy source. They could come conquer the Shatterverse any minute now!"
"What?! Okay okay, uh... We gotta stop them! You in?"
"Definitely. But we need to think things through first."
"Right, think before acting. Your the tactician, so you got any bright ideas?"
"We need to get the Shatterstorm up and running. I already got plenty of energy from the shard and-"
"Wait wait wait, what?! There's another shard?! How did we miss that?!" Sonic exclaimed.
Nine sighed. "Look, the moment your world was restored every Shatterverse got a brand new shard to call their own, generated in a new location. They can't leave their original dimension, but their power can be drawn upon like an infinite power source."
"Oh! Is that how you've been able to make this place like... This?"
"Yes. And right now, we need to use my altered Shatterstorm shuttle and track down the Chaos Council before they-"
Suddenly, a massive earth quake erupted as the entire Shatterverse shook around violently.
"More gateways are being opened! We need to hurry!" Nine urged, rushing outside.
"Wait, no! It's not safe!" Sonic pulled him back.
"I thought we were following my lead!"
"And I thought we were playing it safe!"
"We are! We're using the Shatterstorm instead of any reckless vortexes!"
"Okay, fine. Let's get going. We gotta figure out where this leads."
"Alright, fine. Let's get going." Nine pulled his arm away from Sonic, heading outside of his lab. Sonic followed after him.
"You fools can't defeat me!" Eggman spat, slamming down his fist as Amy and Shadow dodged the attack.
Rouge slammed her foot down, with Eggman throwing her off the mech. She slammed into Knuckles, sending the two to the ground.
"Hold on everyone!" Tails fired off bullets from the Tornado, soaring overhead as he tried to keep Eggman occupied. He fired a laser after him before turning his attention to everyone else.
"Now where is Sonic?"
"Why do you wanna know?" Amy asked, slamming her hammer down onto the mechs arm.
"Because he's the only key to getting back to the Shatterverse! I need to assist the Chaos Council in their plans for domination."
"How are you in contact with the Chaos Council?!" Rouge exclaimed.
"Because it's necessary. I'm the original, so of course they desire my help. I'm the greatest scientist ever lived, after all."
"Keep telling yourself that." Knuckles huffed, continuing to punch away at the mech.
Just then, the world shook at an immediate earth quake. Shadow recognized exactly what was happening.
"A shatterquake?! How?!" he said, trying to keep watch of his surroundings to see if anything change.
"... No? Nothing altered?" he looked around, seeing that there were no alterations in sight.
He paused, observing his surroundings closely. He was sure that...
"Tails, I need the tech to go after Sonic." he said as quietly as possible, making sure Eggman didn't hear him.
"On it." Tails swerved the plane, shooting down the mech before flying off. Shadow ran after him.
"Woah..." Sonic was speechless, with Nine staring in awe at the new gateways that just formed.
Bright Pink, Neon Orange, Bright Cyan, White, and Deep Black... All of those colors were so new and mesmerizing.
"Woah... Where do all of these new worlds lead?" Sonic asked.
Nine checked his tracker, managing to locate the anomaly.
"Hm... They seem to be in the orange gateway."
"Well, thanks for the lift. I gotta fly." Sonic leapt out of the shuttle and towards the orange gateway.
"Wait, no! It's not safe!" Nine flew over, but it was too late.
Sonic had crossed through, landing straight into the world of the Wild West.
"Welp, time to find those Chaos Clowns." Sonic brushed himself off. He noticed his new attire, wearing special boots and gloves.
"Huh... Must be Tails' bracelet. Sweet! Now, gotta find that Council." he sped off, sand trailing off behind him.
Right now, a new adventure awaited him. And he wasn't going to slow down even once until those Chaos Council were done for.
