Work Text:
Todoroki and Bakugou were the best of friends. All it took was one day in their first year of high school for the blond to realize that hey, this half-and-half guy wasn't so bad. So caught up on hating him for absolutely no reason, he never really gave him a chance until one day, they were stuck in a classroom after hours for clean-up duty and he was basically forced to talk to him. It was then that he truly got to know him, and he didn't regret it.
Todoroki had taken a liking to him right away. He found out pretty quickly that they were similar in a lot of ways, which only made being friends with him come naturally. He also noticed that their anger tolerances were extremely different. Bakugou would snap at any given thing that ticked him off, whereas it took a lot more for Todoroki to even react. It wasn't a big difference, but their personalities almost didn't seem to match in the public eye. Todoroki was too quiet, and Bakugou was too loud. It just didn't make sense for them to talk. But Shouto knew the truth. He knew Katsuki was just like him, introverted the same way as well as antisocial. They didn't really care if anyone else thought their friendship was 'abnormal'. It made sense to them, and they were happy. They found themselves being each other's rock throughout high school.
When Bakugou and his mom got into another argument (the third time in the week), he found himself marching the streets at night to go to Todoroki's house and complain. The latter always listened to him and validated his feelings, telling him he had a right to feel the way he did. On his end, when the half-and-half felt the burden of the world taking a toll on his mental health, it never stopped him from running to Bakugou's house all the way into his bed so he could calm down. The blond would make him lemon cookies and make him his favorite meal just so he could feel at peace, and Todoroki almost always stayed the night. That's just how it always was. They helped each other and guided one another through life and made sure that the other was always happy.
However, things began to change once Bakugou started dating Kirishima.
Of course, Todoroki knew Kirishima, he had to, they've been in the same class for 3 years now. He liked him. He was strong, manly, good-looking, and funny. Todoroki honestly thought he was a nice guy. He knew Bakugou was closer to him than everyone in the class (besides him and, of course, Midoriya), so he knew a lot about him.
Things first started shifting when Bakugou mentioned having a crush on him. It was so random, and they were both sitting in the blond's bed eating every snack they knew of when the news was dropped. Todoroki had looked at him, stared at him even. Katsuki liked someone? He didn't know what to say, and Bakugou made fun of him for it telling him he still had to work on his social skills. He thought long and hard and asked him a series of questions, hoping the older would understand that he was happy for him.
Bakugou did and happily answered all of them, a small blush always there on his cheek. It was weird seeing him like that but also kind of endearing. It was nice seeing him happy, though, and Shouto tried his best to convey that.
When they did start dating, only then did Todoroki realize that that meant he and Katsuki couldn't hang out as much and do the things they used to do before. It started when he brought his food all the way up to the school's roof so they could eat together, only to see Kirishima and him sitting there, eating already. It didn't click at first. He just smiled, happy to see them together, and sat down next to them regardless. He couldn't decipher what the look in Kirishima's eyes meant and simply ate in silence. He watched as the two shared a look but didn't say anything, letting Todoroki eat in peace. Another time that really hinted that things were different was when he walked into the library after class, expecting Bakugou to help him with something math related only to see him sitting in their seat with Kirishima, an English notebook in front of them. When he had asked for help with his work, Bakugou simply told him he would another time because he was busy. Of course, Todoroki understood. He was, in fact, busy, and he didn't want to impose. He had a boyfriend to help now, and he got that much, but when he had offered to grab a drink with him later, his response left Todoroki... indifferent?
"Uh, maybe not today? I- we have plans already." Was what he said. Shouto's smile had faltered a little. He couldn't help but think, "Oh right, of course, they had plans." It only made sense. Kirishima gave him a little smile as if that was gonna 'appease' the emotion Shouto was feeling. Nonetheless, he nodded, excusing himself and going to find something else to do.
The last thing that did, confirm that things had changed was when, one night, Shouto had gotten into a heated argument with his father. Disrespectful things were said, and Shouto had had enough. He had yelled at him for the first time in years and stormed out. His father was just so irritating! His entire life revolved around Shouto since his siblings moved out, and he always made snide remarks concerning his choices. He basically tried to re-live his life through Shouto, and the teen was sick of it. When he ran out of his house, he only had one destination in mind.
When he got to Katsuki's house, his dad answered and ushered him inside, offering him tea or water. Shouto declined politely, simply running up the stairs. He didn't bother knocking. He didn't think he should until he swung open the door and saw Kirishima and Bakugou kissing on his bed. A small 'Oh.' left his mouth, and the two jumped at his entrance.
"Sho- What the fuck? What are you doing here? You don't knock?" Bakugou had said. Shouto stared at him. Did he need to knock now? They'd never knocked when they came over to each other's house so he didn't think to...
"I- sorry? I didn't think I had to..." He mumbled. Bakugou sighed.
"What is it? You good? Need something?" Bakugou asked, quickly. Well obviously if Todoroki was here he needed something. That was the whole point of this arrangement. He came here, flopped on his bed, waited for food and dessert then talked about what was bothering him. That's how it worked. He looked between both of them, Kirishima looking at him with something in his eyes.
"... No.. I'll just- wait downstairs." He said, thinking that would be enough.
"That's- You don't have to wait there." Bakugou started. Todoroki was confused. Was he supposed to wait in the room with them? That just seemed awkward and uncomfortable.
"What do you mean?" He asked, thinking Bakugou was making some sort of joke. He wasn't expecting Kirishima to speak up, though.
"He means, this isn't a good time. We're.. busy." He had said. Ah yes. Busy. They were always busy nowadays. Everyone around him always seemed to be busy. He nodded gently, wishing them a good night, and left down the steps, mumbling a small thank you to Masaru who was still in the living room. He ended up just walking around for a bit, trying to calm down from his previous outburst with his father and now this. Katsuki was always doing something else now. He never had time to spend with Shouto. Was that what a relationship was like? Was that what people were supposed to do in relationships? Drop everything and focus on that person?
Todoroki couldn't remember what time he got home, he just knew his father was fast asleep and snoring loudly from his room. He remembers not getting a single ounce of sleep that night. Or any other night.
What followed was just a blur and things were being repeated over and over. Bakugou and him barely hung out, barely did things together and matter of fact, they barely spoke. He didn't even know if he was still considered his best friend. Todoroki got less and less sleep, was too angry at his father for being the way he was, and was too dumbfounded by what was going on with Katsuki. It sucked. Katsuki didn't even check up on him anymore. He watched for days and days as the older barely sent him a message or even opened the ones Shouto was sending him. He didn't even come over anymore and even his irritating father noticed. Why was that? Everything was just getting annoying.
He walked into class one day, obviously not looking his best. The class had made it a huge deal for whatever reason. When he sat next to Momo like he's always done, she looked at him, worry all over her face.
"Shouto? Are you okay?" She had whispered to him.
"Yeah? I'm fine." He answered. He didn't seem convincing at all which didn't calm her down. She shook her head, stood up, and pulled him to his feet immediately, dragging him out of the room. That was unlike her. Their class was starting in a few minutes and she was dragging him further and further away from it to what- a locker room? She made sure no one was inside before she bought him in and sat him down on the bench.
"Momo, what are you-"
"I'm gonna fix you up, you honestly look rough and I don't want people to keep talking about you all day, as they often do." She said. She wasn't wrong. Both of them were in the same boat, two popular, rich kids in a somewhat middle-class school just trying to live their normal life. It wasn't unusual for people to talk about them and make assumptions about them. Although annoying, they learned to live with it. Dwelling on it didn't make sense. But he knew she was right. If he walked around school looking like a mess, everyone would start assuming shit and he honestly wasn't up for that.
"Thank you." He told her, grateful she was so kind. He stayed put as she brushed his hair, a spare comp she always carried doing just the trick. She parted the red and white so softly and Todoroki found himself thinking about his mother. He missed the way she would brush his hair when he was younger, how she would card her fingers through it and play with it. This was nostalgic. When Yaoyorozu finished with that, she moisturized his face, applying something that wouldn't affect his scar all over his skin. He smiled at that a little.
"You're smiling, that's new. Something on your mind?" She asked. Shouto looked up at her from the bench.
"Would you be weirded out if I told you you remind me of my mom?" He asked. Her movements on his face paused and she looked at him, a small, soft laugh leaving her unexpectedly.
"I do? Well, it's not weird at all. I'm kind of.. flattered? I guess?" She giggled, still rubbing his face. He smiled again. He liked Momo. She was too kind and too sweet for her own good. He kind of just, watched her, as she applied whatever it was she was using. He closed his eyes, thinking back to when he was four and his mom applied baby oil to him. It was such a small memory and one he was only able to remember because she had got some in his eye and was scared he was going to cry. He remembers laughing, though. And then he remembers her laugh. It was such a nice memory of her. He found himself leaning into Yaoyorozu's touch, trying to keep that memory of his mom ongoing but it stopped once she was done with the application. "Okay. See, you look so much better. I couldn't have people talking about how bad you look the whole day when that's simply not true." She added. Todoroki stood up, looking at himself in the mirror. She was right, he looked ten times better with just two little changes.
"We're late for class." He said. She watched her shrug through the mirror.
"Mr. Aizawa will understand. Besides, he likes us." She laughed. Todoroki laughed too. He turned around, walking up to her.
"Thank you." He said. He didn't say why he was thankful and didn't elaborate either. He didn't know how. He was just glad Momo was there to pick him back up after he was already down. Typically, that was Bakugou's job. She had no idea how much that small gesture helped him get through his funk. Everything that happened the few weeks prior seemed to disappear as she took care of him for those five minutes. He didn't know how he would repay her but he knew he had to. Yaoyorozu ruffled his hair, not too much to ruin what she did but enough for it to be playful, and chuckled. Shouto was reminded of his sister. Yaoyorozu just made him think of his youth when everything in his life was fine and happy. He'd have to get her a gift or something.
The day rolled by and despite being helped by Momo, her efforts were left in vain as he watched Kirishima and Bakugou practically do everything couple-y known to man. He watched them make out in front of a tree, hold hands as they walked around, and watched as Kirishima sat on his leg as they talked to other members of their friend group. It pissed him off. He didn't know why. He tried looking away, tried not to pay attention to them but he couldn't. It... hurt.
He didn't know when everything started but seeing Kirishima and Bakugou side by side made him sick. Was that normal? Was a person supposed to feel this way when their friend got into a relationship? Everything Bakugou was doing with the redhead, he did with Todoroki first. They went out to arcades, amusement parks, movies, parks, museums, everywhere Todoroki had already been to with the blond. He watched as they walked home together, laughed under the tree together, and watched shows in the cafeteria together, literally the same thing he used to do. He couldn't understand anything. Why was this happening? Why was Bakugou doing all of this with Kirishima? Why was he always spending time with him? Why was he never thought of? Why didn't Bakugou choose him?
He had distanced himself and it hurt him to do so. He couldn't bare the pain he felt every time he looked at the blond. He found comfort in Yaoyorozu, letting her take care of him from time to time but she had her own things to take care of too. He couldn't depend on her. Even if she insisted that she didn't mind him spending time with her and Jirou, he couldn't bring himself to be in their way like he was with Katsuki and his partner.
The days felt longer and all he could think about was Katsuki and him. He spent most of his time alone. Sure he had friends but it wasn't the same. He and Katsuki had that special bond that Shouto couldn't find with anyone else. He missed those days when it was just the two of them, huddled together under the blanket, watching a scary movie, hugging each other close because they didn't want to admit they were scared. He missed walking home in the rain after they stayed after class too long, splashing each other like children in the puddles when it started pouring and having to dry off at one of their homes. He also missed drinking hot chocolate at the Todoroki mansion when no one was home and blasting music in his house in the middle of winter. It was one of their occasional activities for that season. He just missed Katsuki.
He missed seeing his face, missed seeing his red eyes looking his way every time he did something, missed feeling the warmth of his body when they hugged or accidentally fell asleep together in his bed, missed the cuddles on the couch when one of them wasn't doing so good and needed comfort, missed feeling his fingers in his hair as he rested on his shoulder after a long day. He missed everything about him and it hurt to know he couldn't do anything about it.
Everything was so painful.
A couple of weeks flew by him and he couldn't bring himself to even stare at them anymore. He stayed to himself and talked to Sero or Iida to pass the time. It was whatever. He focused on school, focused on texting his siblings and going to visit his mom once a week, focused on ignoring his dad who tried to talk to him every now and then. He just focused on everything but Katsuki. He knew if he kept watching them like that, it'd make Kirishima uncomfortable and he didn't want a third party to be involved. Although, he was more involved than Todoroki cared to admit.
He didn't know what Katsuki was up to, didn't even bother sending him a message the latter wasn't even gonna open until later that night at 11:57 pm when Shouto was fast asleep, didn't make an effort to try and talk to him during the break, didn't even look at him to notice he got a haircut after some time. He couldn't bring himself to do it. That's why, when he was left alone on Saturday while his father went to take care of some things at work, he didn't expect Katsuki to be ringing his doorbell at 11:35 in the morning.
When he opened the door, he finally looked at him. Red, ruby eyes, sure, a fade cut, a piercing on his nose, piercing on his ear, dark circles under his eyeballs. Was this Bakugou? Well, it didn't matter. The Bakugou he knew didn't need him, didn't care if was gone. It was very clear to him now. He made a point to close the door, not wanting to deal with any of this right now but was stopped.
"Hey, hey, hey, Shouto. Come on, please. Just let me talk to you." Bakugou had said. Todoroki felt his heart swell. He missed his voice. He hadn't heard it straight on in months. It sounded so much softer than what it had been. Or maybe it was just because he hadn't heard it in a while that it sounded different but it ruined Shouto. He shook his head, clearing those thoughts. Who cares about that?
"I don't want to talk. Get out." He pushed against the door. He didn't need Katsuki to come in and ruin his peace right now. He was fine a few minutes ago. Katsuki pushed a little harder on the door, Shouto barely able to keep up.
"I don't want to break your door, dude, just let me in." He said. Shouto didn't care if the door or the entire house broke down, he didn't want to talk to him. Even if pushing against the door made him weaker and weaker, he never let it go, heart set on pushing Katsuki as far away as possible.
"Don't care. I don't have anything to say to you." A lie. He had so much to say to Katsuki that it was almost physically choking him. It was practically eating him alive how many things he had to say to him that he couldn't because he was scared and hurt. Katsuki pushed harder, the door flying open as Shouto stepped back. It was like a scene fresh out of a horror movie except the killer wasn't some 47-year-old dude with a bald spot holding a knife, it was 18-year-old Katsuki Bakugou with a cat plush, being held in front of him as a..? What? A peace offering? Shouto wanted to scream at him, yell at him and tell him he's been nothing but shitty the past four months, tell him he's been the worst friend ever and he never wanted to talk to him again but that stupid cat plush he was holding made him sick. Why would he bring that? Why? With what goal?
"Can you please just listen to me? I'll fucking stay out there all day if you don't." He said. Todoroki actually scoffed at that.
"Oh, so now you care? That's funny." He huffed. He walked into the kitchen, needing to be somewhere else rather than looking at Katsuki right now. He heard the footsteps follow him and just wished he would leave. His being here was driving him insane.
"Shouto, just-"
"Why are you here!!? What could have possibly told you to come here, now, of all days when my father isn't home when I'm trying to relax my mind and calm down!? Why did you come?" He exclaimed. It was all just ironic. The one day he actually had to forget about everything and unwind, one of his biggest problems just comes ringing the doorbell for them to 'talk'.
"I came to apologize," Katsuki started. "I fucked up. Bad. I came to restart." He said, calmly and Shouto wouldn't lie and say it wasn't annoying him. What the fuck did 'restart' even mean anyway?
"I don't care why you're here, just get out. I don't want to listen to you." He said, walking out of the kitchen only for his wrist to be grabbed. His eyes flashed with anger and he tried pulling himself out of the older's grasp but it was so tight.
"You're being unreasonable," Katsuki told him. He honestly felt his heart drop down to the pits of his stomach. That was not true.
"I'm being unreasonable?" He stated. Katsuki was the biggest asshole he knew. "How am I the unreasonable one? You're the one that left me hanging to go have fun with someone else!" He said.
"I didn't leave you hanging- what are you on about?" Katsuki squinted at him and Shouto really hated him now.
"Are you serious? You seriously don't know what I mean?"
"No, I do, but I didn't "leave you", Shouto." It was almost unbelievable how Katsuki couldn't realize what Shouto was talking about.
"Every time I asked to hang out with you, you were always 'too busy'. 'Oh sorry, I can't right now, I'm helping Kirishima do this. Oh no, maybe another time, I'm helping him with English. Mm, no we have plans. Uh, maybe next time, I'm helping Kirishima learn how to fucking read and write.' When was I ever involved in that?" He asked, still struggling in Bakugou's hold. He rarely ever cursed unless he was extremely angry and now would be the perfect time for that. Bakugou didn't say anything, just watched him, listening to him.
"Do you know how it feels to have my so-called 'best friend' fucking leave me in the mud every time so he could go do the same thing he used to do with you, with someone else? Do you understand how much that fucking hurt?" Todoroki was asking all these questions on deaf ears because Bakugou was not responding and frankly, he didn't care. It was better this way.
"It hurt a lot. I get that you and him are together and you're supposed to do everything together if that's what being a couple is but I don't understand why I couldn't at least hang out with you a bit! I always felt ignored and you never even noticed how much it fucking hurt me, too busy playing with Kirishima's hair or something!" He spat. Bakugou looked away from him a bit, looking at the floor tiles. Shouto knew he hit a nail because Katsuki never backed down from eye contact. That didn't stop him though, he continued.
"Remember when I came to your house that one night and you were being all lovey with him in your room? I had just left the house after my huge argument with my father, and you didn't- you didn't even notice how angry I was. You didn't even see how pissed off and annoyed I was at him. You only cared about Kirishima. Never about me and I mean I get it. He's your boyfriend, but I needed you. I needed you and you chose him. You always chose him." He said. He could hear his voice shake and he silently cursed at himself for getting emotional. Tears were not needed. He saw how Bakugou's eyes flicked back towards him and could see his look change as he noticed Todoroki about to cry and he wanted to run away, disappear. He didn't need that sympathy, not now, not in the future, not ever.
"I don't understand the dating world half of the time but it still didn't make sense as to why one of my closest friends would leave me by myself just because he found someone. It doesn't make sense."
"I fucked up, Shou. I'm sorry." When he heard Bakugou's voice, his anger wavered. It was shaky just like his, it was quiet, it was soft, everything his voice was usually not. He felt the tears prick at his eyes and he rushed to wipe them before anything fell. The hand on his wrist was still on tightly and he stopped struggling altogether. There was no point if he was just going to stay there. His heart was beating too fast for it to be considered healthy and he felt a lump in his throat. He swallowed around it and it stung.
"Why? Just why?" He asked, quietly. Bakugou knitted his eyebrows.
"Why what?"
"Why didn't you choose me? I was right there this whole time, wasn't I? Why did you find somebody else? I was so happy for you guys at first but along the way, I just found myself being so upset that Kirishima was next to you and not me! I don't understand why." Todoroki confessed. Although, he didn't know what he was confessing to. Bakugou knew though. He sighed, inhaled, and exhaled altogether before speaking.
"Kirishima and I broke up." He said. Todoroki's eyes widened. What?
"...What? Wh- huh? What are you saying? Why would you break up? Why are you telling me this? That doesn't-" Shouto had a million questions. What happened?
"I wasn't giving him my one hundred percent. He said I always seemed distracted, always seemed to be looking for something, always wanted something more. I didn't get it at first." Bakugou started. It was Shouto's turn to stare at him, quietly.
"I knew I wasn't giving it my all but I couldn't piece together why. Turns out it's because of you." He admitted. Shouto grew even more confused.
"Me? What did I do?"
"Every time I took Eiji- Kirishima to a place we used to go to, it wasn't fun. I was thinking about you at any given moment and I couldn't stop myself. We went to the museum and I fucking stared at the pictures of all the wild cats from back then, thinking of how sad you were that they were extinct. We went to that dumbass arcade and he played that game that you fucking suck at and beat it and I was only thinking about how stupid you looked when you tried to win. We watched a movie and right there was the mascot we saw a few months ago staring back at me. I couldn't help but pull out my phone at stare at the pictures that I took of you when you asked to pose with it. And the fucking amusement park." Bakugou sighed.
"What about the amusement park...?" Todoroki asked, voice barely above a whisper.
"Where the fuck do you think I got that ugly cat toy from? I got it when Kirishima wasn't looking. I won it, for you, I can't stop thinking about you, and fuck, I know I hurt you and I know I was the shittiest fucking friend to you and I take responsibility. I was trying to run away from my feelings Shouto. I was dealing with my own shit, trying to distance myself from you, trying to do more with Kirishima in public just so I could push down what I felt about you deep down and I didn't even notice I was hurting you in the fucking process. It only just clicked recently." He said. Shouto stared at him again.
"Kirishima said I might have been using him to get over you. He said that it was obvious that I was in love with you and that I shouldn't hide it from you anymore, so we broke up. I never meant to hurt you, Sho. I just suck at this." Katsuki let go of his wrist, moving to hold his hand. His heart was beating in and out of his chest and he almost couldn't breathe.
"I'm sorry. Seriously. From the bottom of my heart, I'm sorry. I just want this shit to be over. I never wanna hurt you like that again, I was such a dick." Katsuki said. Shouto could feel his fingers shaking in his palm and his heart throbbed. He could see, feel and hear how genuine Bakugou was being so he knew it wasn't a joke, knew he was being serious. He debated if it was a good idea to hug him. He was still mad at him. Of course he was. Four months of emotional turmoil with no one else to turn to didn't exactly erase itself in 17 minutes but, it was a start. He let go of Bakugou's hand, slowly backing up a bit. He watched the older's face change. He was worried Todoroki was going to make him leave and never talk to him again now that he had confessed. However, Shouto wasn't planning on any of that. He wrapped his arms around his neck, pulling him into a tight hug, and breathed into his neck. Bakugou's arms wrapped around his sides almost instantly, holding him. It was so warm and so nice. Shouto had missed this, had missed holding Katsuki when he was sad, had missed the warmth. Katsuki was holding him tighter than the younger had expected but he didn't complain. He played with his hair, his short hair since he decided to cut it and it felt nice on his fingers.
"You are a dick." He mumbled into his neck, correcting him from earlier. Katauki made a noise that sounded like a laugh but was too pained to be considered one but Shouto accepted it.
"I missed you. I'm sorry- I'm so fucking sorry." His arms tightened their grasp on him. His head was resting on his shoulder, eyes closed shut. If he didn't have any self-control, he'd be crying his eyes out right now. It felt nice to hold Todoroki after so long and he was internally punching himself for everything he caused. He held him for the longest time, not wanting to let go ever.
After what felt like hours, Todoroki thought their hug was over but Bakugou made no move to let go.
"Katsuki?" He said softly, wondering if he was okay.
"I'll wait, you know? I know you probably hate my guts and want me to leave you alone but I'll wait. I'll do every fucking thing in the book to get you to forgive me and for me to gain your trust again. I'll wait until you you're ready. I swear to fuck I'm not gonna run away from shit this time." Katsuki whispered right in his ear. Honestly, if Shouto wasn't being held up, he would have probably fallen to the floor. Everything just sounded so genuine and he almost couldn't take it
"And fuck. I did choose you, Sho. I chose you a long time ago in my head. I just never voiced it and I buried it deep down. You were always my number one. I'm just a dumbass." Katsuki sighed. Todoroki felt his heart jump. It was nice hearing those words after months of wondering why he wasn't even an option.
"You are a dumbass, a big one." He emphasized. He heard Katsuki chuckle, for real this time which made his own smile grow on his face.
"Please cut me some slack." He said. Todoroki laughed.
"I will. Because you're being nice." He hugged him tighter now.
Neither of them knew how long they were standing there, in the kitchen, holding each other but they'd guess it was a long time.
Katsuki didn't leave either. Once they did finally pull away and stood on their own feet, he decided to stay over and made him a meal. They ate in the kitchen silently, the air still thick but they were okay. They were better now. They held hands shyly, just embracing every second together.
The next few days that went by were okay. Shouto was getting proper sleep and Katsuki wasn't constantly at war with himself. He found the courage to apologize to Kirishima, buying him one of his favorite game sets because he felt really really bad. Kirishima was a good guy though. He accepted his apology, gave him a loving, caring hug, and encouraged him to hit it off with Shouto. Katsuki was grateful for him and knew he'd have to do more for him in the future.
The news spread that they broke up but no one really seemed to harbor any negative feelings towards Katsuki which made him feel better about himself. And he had to thank Eijiro again for telling everyone that it was a 'mutual decision' and not because Bakugou was secretly in love with someone else.
Katsuki made sure he made it up to Shouto and regained everything they built together in three weeks. It took a lot of time but it was a price Katsuki had to pay for what he did and Shouto was smart enough not to give in right away. His mental health had slowly gone south in the four months they were at 'war' so he needed time to pick himself back up. He asked Momo for help who always welcomed him with open arms and he asked Katsuki who helped him in the most respectful of ways.
When everything was back to how it was five months ago, Shouto was a beaming ball of happiness. On one sunny Saturday afternoon, he found himself running so fast to Katsuki's place, almost falling as he ran up the front steps. He was ready and after lots and lots and lots of conversations with friends, his siblings, his mom, and Google, he was finally able to comprehend what the fuck everything all meant. So he ran, all the way up to Katsuki's room and fell face-first right into his chest, the door left wide open. Katsuki was confused but hugged him regardless.
"What's up?" He asked, chuckling at what just unfolded in front of him. Shouto looked at him, a faint smile on his face.
"So. I realized that I like you, as more than a friend, obviously." He said. Katsuki snorted.
"It's about time." He laughed. Shouto punched his arm gently.
"This is the part where you tell me you like me too." He pouted. Katsuki rolled his eyes.
"I did fucking tell you. I already told you I was in love with you when we talked. Don't make me say that shit again. 's embarrassing." Katsuki huffed, sitting up. Shouto stayed glued to his chest, letting himself be raised as he hugged him.
"Oh yeah, you did. Well, I need you to say it again. My memory is kind of faint." He smiled. Bakugou yanked him off his body, pushing him away. He could hear the low chuckle of his friend and it messed with his brain.
"I like you, asswipe." He said. The smile Shouto had on his face made his heart stutter. He was so pretty like that.
"You're officially off the hook when you do this last thing." He said, laying down right next to the blond.
"If you fucking ask me to write you a love letter like those cheesy movies, I might just change my mind," Katsuki said. Shouto gasped and slapped his arm, telling him he was rude.
"I wasn't going to ask for that!"
"Then what is it?" Bakugou was honestly willing to do anything right now. After three long weeks of longing, the moment was finally here and the blond was ready for whatever it was.
"Kiss me, Katsuki." He heard. His head shot towards Shouto, eyes scanning his face, head spinning. Did he just say that?
"Are you serious? Are you sure? What the fuck?" Katsuki was honestly not expecting that but the tug on his sweater made him flush because that was Shouto's way of saying 'yes'.
He slowly bent down, face coming closer to the half and half's own. Shouto wrapped his arms around his neck immediately, keeping him there. Katsuki paused for maybe two seconds before he was kissing Shouto. He pulled away quickly, watching to see if the other was okay. Shouto smiled, pulled him back down, and kissed him passionately. It was so sweet and his lips tasted like strawberries and sugar he was probably eating beforehand. Katsuki was ecstatic. His hand came to rest on his cheek, just to touch him. He felt so happy and Shouto did too. Katsuki never got this same feeling when he kissed Kirishima and he was secretly glad because this felt special. It felt like it was meant to be, felt like it had to be done this way.
When they pulled away, Todoroki never let go of his neck which just forced Bakugou to lie down on top of him. They stared at each other, Katsuki feeling all over his face and scar, feeling the smooth skin or the rough patches and he was entranced. Shouto let him and felt himself going to play with the hair that was on Katsuki's face. His soft hand made the blond melt and he almost couldn't hold himself up. He kissed Shouto's cheek again, smiling as the blush the other was fighting to hide spread all over his face. It was all so beautiful. They rested both of their foreheads together, eyes closed, just enjoying the moment. Katsuki wouldn't trade this for the world. He inhaled and exhaled softly, the air hitting the younger's face from how close they were, making him giggle. It wasn't until Shouto spoke up that Katsuki's breath caught in his throat, silently choking him.
"Thank you for waiting for me." He had said. Katsuki lost his cool and kissed him ten to fifty-five times that day.
They were going to be okay.
