Tsukasa pulled the curtain open, revealing on the other side of the window a strong rain that didn’t seem to be stopping soon. It was practically impossible to see much in this weather with how hard the rain came upon the street– not to mention a foot-tall flood that was quickly developing.
The blonde let out a sigh before he rolled the curtain back down. “At least Rui and Nene were able to make it home just fine! That’s a positive, right?” He looked over to the pink-haired girl sitting on the couch in his family’s living room.
“I’m glad! Good thing they left early!” Emu kicked her feet up and down in boredom.
A few hours ago, the troupe had a meeting for their next show in Tsukasa’s house. Since Saki nor his parents were going to be busy for a while, Tsukasa thought to himself that it was a great idea to hold the meeting at his house.
…That was before it began raining.
Deciding it was getting late, Nene and Rui had left an hour ago already, while Emu decided she wanted to stay over for just a little while longer.
But now, Emu was trapped in the Tenma house until further notice. Even the driver her family hired had said that he had trouble driving in the current weather, so he was going to be pretty late.
A sort of awkward silence enveloped the living room between the blonde and the pink-hair, none of them knowing how to continue.
Tsukasa dropped onto the couch, leaving some space between him and Emu. He picked up the blue star-shaped pillow with TSUKASA stitched on it and held it to his chest, Emu holding onto the pink flower pillow.
“I guess we could watch something on the TV?” Emu suggested, bouncing a little in her seat in excitement.
“I don’t see any other options… why not!?” He enthusiastically picked up the remote from the coffee table and turned on the TV. He mindlessly scrolled through the channels on cable. Scrolling, scrolling, scrolling… “There really is nothing on cable anymore…” He decided to just go on Netflix instead.
“Anything you want to watch?” He looked over at Emu, continuing to scroll through the endless list of shows and movies available. It was kinda overwhelming the amount of content they have that it was pretty hard to pick…
“Um…” Emu thought for a second, letting Tsukasa scroll a little more until he had landed on a movie. “Stop!”
The sudden shouting made him instantly stop scrolling, ending up on a movie. “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before?” He looked questioningly at the title, trying to decipher the English presented before him. He pressed on it and read the description, now sort of understanding.
“This one looks good! C’mon! Play! Play!” Emu clapped her hands together, pressuring Tsukasa to play the movie.
“Fine, fine! But, we’re turning on the Japanese dub and subtitles!”
“Aw… Alright.” Emu sat up properly, still clutching onto the pillow.
He pressed the play button, and the movie began.
When the movie was over, Emu clapped a little, smiling like an idiot. “So, what now-” She turned her head to Tsukasa, only now realizing that he was fast asleep on the couch, his head laying on the armrest.
“Aw… He fell asleep…” The credits continued to play, Netflix giving a few more movie options that were similar to the one that they had both just watched, but Emu wasn’t focused on the TV anymore. She couldn’t help but look at the asleep blonde that was sitting right next to her.
His mouth was open just a little as his head was laid on the armrest of the couch, still holding the pillow close to his chest. He looked so bright while he was asleep. A pocket-sized star sleeping right here… so close… he was within reach…
Emu thought it was fine to scoot a little closer to him… a little more… and a little more till she was right next to him, both of their thighs touching.
As she watched him sleep, she can’t help but how absolutely blinding his light was. How he was her star.
That day on the Ferris wheel, not only was the sun bright with its glow that set upon the two of them, his light too, was as bright as the sun. He was the brightest star that was ever known. So, so bright.
She smiled wide, her bright smile able to match his light.
Sparks flew across the living room as she slotted her hand in his, fitting it between his hand and the pillow. Tsukasa’s unconscious body reacted by taking her hand, squeezing a little on it as if he was awake… As if he felt the same way she did about him.
The brightest star in the entire universe, holding her hand, sleeping right next to her. Oh, how he lit up such a cold, rainy day just with his presence… just being right here, with her. Her star…
“I’m sure… he won’t mind this…” Emu squeezed his hand, and he squeezed back. That seemed like confirmation enough for her. “Hey, Tsukasa-kun~” She shook him a little to wake him up, causing him to groggily open his eyes, letting out a yawn.
“Emu…? Is the movie over?-” Emu didn’t let him continue as she moved her face closer to his… and then…
She closed her eyes and placed a soft kiss on his lips.
“E-Emu?!” He shot awake, in shock at what just happened.
“Hehe… Sorry…” She was definitely not that sorry.
“Warn me next time! Jeez…” He blushed and looked away.
“Does that mean you hated it?”
“I… Well, I wouldn’t exactly say I hated it…”
Emu squealed in excitement and hugged him close, letting go of the pillow. “Ack!” Tsukasa let released air from the hug, but he couldn’t help but smile, hugging the pink-haired girl back.
“Yay!!” Emu happily said as she kept hugging the blonde boy.
The two stayed in their hug for a while as the credits ended and previews of the other movie recommendations auto-played.
With just the two of them, they lit up the entire living room just like that. And coincidentally enough, the rain had begun to finally calm down.
They were both so bright.
Just like the way the sun shone that day on the Ferris wheel.
