Summary:

Caught in a rainstorm, Rui and Nene were trapped under an awning of some closed shop on Akiyama Street, drenched in rainwater.

ART BY MY FRIEND!! (They don't wanna be known, so if you're reading this, TYSM!!!)

Although Rui and Nene had left Tsukasa’s house earlier, they were still caught in the crossfire of the raging rainstorm.

After they had a meeting in Tsukasa’s house for a future show, the two decided to end the meeting early, as it was starting to get late. Little did the two know that shortly after they left, it would start raining down. Hard.

“It seems that the rain’s not going to be stopping any time soon,” Rui said as he watched the raindrops fall to the ground, hiding from it with Nene under the awning of some closed shop in Kamiyama Street.

“Figures…” Nene says with a sigh, a hand towel over her head.

Although Rui did bring an umbrella, it seems like he’d forgotten it back at Tsukasa’s house, so all they can do is just stand here and wait for the rain to stop.

The pastel-green girl lets out a sneeze that was barely even audible, but Rui could definitely still hear it. “Oh? Are you sick already, Nene?” He said with a certain amount of worry in his tone, but still keeping the same amount of teasingness he usually carries with his words. “We should get you home as of right now before it gets worse.”

“I’m fine. Worry about yourself a little more, you’re completely drenched too.” She tugged a little on the gray cardigan he frequently adorned over his school uniform, soaked wet in rainwater. “Take it off before the water seeps in with your uniform…” She held the same amount of worry that he had for her– without the teasing tone, of course.

Nene groans as she watches the rain. “Maybe we should’ve stayed at Tsukasa’s house…”

“Well, it’s certainly too late for that now, isn’t it? Let’s worry about the problem at hand right now. Getting back home.” Rui decides to at the very least unbutton his cardigan, making Nene blush just a little bit.

“Idiot… Just take it off already…” Nene took Rui’s shoulders in both of her hands and took off his cardigan, making him blush a little in return. Now both of them were blushing, great.

She hands him the cardigan of his that she just took off, and he puts it over his head. “We could use this as an umbrella? Our homes aren’t that far from here, and the rain has calmed just a bit. I’d say that this could work if we ran for it.” Rui suggested.

“I… Fine.” She huddled closer to the purple boy, feeling a few butterflies roam free in her stomach because of how close she was to him.

“Alright, let’s go.” He raised the cardigan over the both of them, and the two booked it, running the rain.

Nene held on to Rui’s shirt, nearly slipping a few times. She liked holding onto him like this, and he liked how he was holding onto him. Their shared mutual feeling once again sent more sparks flying between the two.

They kept running and running, the cardigan soaking in the rain above their heads, although their shoulders were getting a little wet, they were mostly doing good so far. As long as the cardigan doesn’t get too wet and the water starts to drip onto them…

After so much running, they finally reached their houses. “Say…” Rui smiles at Nene, still holding the cardigan over both of them. “Mind if I could stay over at your house just for a bit? You know, until the rain dies over.”

“Um…” Nene thought about it for a moment, a little flustered from the sudden question. “I guess you could… Nobody’s home, so…”

Rui took this as enough reason and went to her front door, flipping over the welcome mat and using the key under to unlock the door. “You know I have a key…” Nene sighed as she entered her house with Rui.

“It’s fun using the spare key~” He giggled to himself as he helped himself into Nene’s house, wringing the cardigan of all its water at the front steps first before he did fully enter. He held the cardigan close as he dropped onto the couch.

“I’ll go take a quick shower. You… do your thing.” Nene left the room and entered the bathroom, leaving Rui by himself in the living room.

Rui quickly let out a sigh of relief, clutching his heart with his hand, flustered as he could possibly be. Even with his teasing tone, he couldn’t control how he felt about Nene. He honestly wanted to pick her up and carry her bridal style, running with her in his arms as he carried her all the way home.

His face was red, but he quickly got rid of it, calming himself down. “Well, that was… hm…” He slouched a little on the couch, trying to compose himself before Nene finished up in the shower.

Jeez, he could be so hopeless sometimes.

Nene had left the shower soon enough, already changed into fresh clothes, her hair sort of dried off. Rui smiled at her as she entered the living room. “Ugh… I really want to sleep already… I’m tired after the meeting and the whole thing with the rain… Are you going home yet?” Nene asked Rui, who was still sitting on the couch.

“Why don’t I just sleep with you?” …

Rui doesn’t know where that confidence or question had come from, but here he was. Asking to sleep with his childhood friend.

“…Um… Yeah, sure…” Nene looked away, blushing terribly.

He felt his heart begin to race on the max setting, the way she just so casually agreed to sleep with him like that… He was on the verge of exploding into a million tiny pieces. “Let’s… Let’s go to bed then.”

In Nene’s room, Nene immediately fell onto her bed and moved to the side, making space for Rui to join her. He laid down next to her, but there was at least a few inches of space between them… the both of them were really awkward right now.

Ah… Who cares anymore. Rui thought to himself as he quickly huddled himself closer to Nene.

“E-Eek! Um… okay…” Nene moved her body to face him, they both look at each other as they both were laid down on the bed… they were so close…

Nene decided to also be a little more daring, so she cuddled close to Rui, wrapping her arms around his waist. This caused Rui to giggle and blush… so, he ran his hand through her soft, soft hair as he got closer and closer to her, and planted a soft kiss on the pastel-green girl’s forehead.

She only replied with a flustered noise as she buried her face into his chest.

Maybe they were both hopeless after all.

But they were hopeless together.

That’s all that mattered anyway.
