STAGE OR REAL: School Play Kiss Scandal?!
Written, edited, interviewed, and photographed by March 7th
The XHS drama department's long-awaited production of A Dragon Gallant, Its Ocean Distant had a resounding success during its opening night, the department earning nearly 40,000 credits in ticket sales overnight. However, the ticket sales were just one of the many surprises the play had in store for its audience. The thrilling finale to the play was filled with plot twists and exhilaration, but the final kiss between our two leads sealed the play as a favorite in many of our hearts! The students playing the two leads, Dan Heng and Jing Yuan, have also sealed themselves in many of our memories, but for a slightly different reason.
A few audience members with experience in acting have pointed out to several other students, including me, March 7th, that the kiss in the finale of the show seemed far too real to be a stage kiss.
"Bro, it was the most romantic thing I've ever seen. But, y'know, I've done stage kisses before, every experienced actor has done 'em, heh— whatever they were doing was anything but a stage kiss. I could've sworn I saw tongue in there somewhere!" said Sampo Koski, a former member of the XHS drama club.
"It was definitely not a stage kiss. I've seen movie kisses less passionate than theirs," Fu Xuan, co-editor of the XHS newspaper and former drama club president, says.
"It was inappropriate, but I have to admit that it was good," commented current student council member Bronya Rand, who refused to elaborate on what "good" meant in her statement.
So far, Jing Yuan and Dan Heng have not responded to requests by the XHS newspaper team to interview them about the kiss. As the actors themselves have refused to comment for now, info on the kiss can only be obtained through the students who have seen the play in person, and thus varying accounts will certainly arise. Misinformation is the greatest enemy of honest journalists like us at the XHS newspaper team, so we will work hard to bring more accurate info very soon!
The XHS production of A Dragon Gallant, Its Ocean Distant is only just beginning— it will have three more shows over this next week, and tickets are selling out fast! Grab a ticket at the XHS drama department's website, or buy one live at the ticket windows in front of the XHS theater!
P.S. (Word travels fast around the school, so by the time this article is released, most of you would've probably heard rumors about that scandalous onstage kiss. As a responsible editor and good friend of one of the actors, March 7th will have to ask all of you to please be respectful to Jing Yuan and Dan Heng! I didn't buy Dan Heng all those cups of bubble tea in exchange for him letting me write this just for you all to be mean to him!!!)
