So the Seabreeze Fades, the Sunset Dims

Summary:

There is always a darkness deep within. It can free you, or it can bind you.

Floyd and Jade used to be freed by such darkness, but once they got a taste of the light, the shackles dragging them back became bindings they longed to slip away from.

Azul, who entered the darkness to leave the twins in the dawn, shoved away by the true monsters within, stumbling back toward the faint glow of the sunset.

And below it all, a figure coils in the shadows, waiting to strike until their hopes have been crushed beyond any reconciliation, and when they finally slip into his waiting claws.

Notes:

Hi! This is Kaeya! Welcome to my TedTalk on octotrio angst!

Me and two friends banded together to write this gorgeous trainwreck of a masterpiece, where the octotrio suffer. This is my first time doing something like this, and so far it's been really fun! Please enjoy. Ver, Noiz, please introduce yourselves below!

Ver: Hi I'm Ver (Vermillion_Air) and I'll be writing the Azul/Idia section of each chap! I don't usually write this pairing much (I usually do Trey/Jade but Kaeya had some fun ideas for them) so it's gonna be a bit interesting! Mostly just here to support Kaeya and Noiz's ingenious ideas but I'll try adding my own twists on the sections I'm doing~

Noiz: Hello hello! I’m CellophaneScales(aka RadioNoiz) and I’ll be doing the Floyd/Riddle sections of the fic!! I’m excited to present my ideas as the other two have seen it only becomes more of a train wreck from here!!

Chapter 1: The Prologue, a Tale of What Came Before

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

The chasms of the sea held a great many secrets.

They also held a great many memories.

The bodies of those who could not survive eventually found their way to the darkest depths.

As their material flesh decayed, their minds, their memories, seeped into the water.

Gave birth to new life down on the floor.

They say those who visit will often be granted a sense of deja vu.

A feeling of lives gone past.

And through all of this, they would be blinded to their own life.

Living in the past left only regrets.

Living in the present left only blindness.

Living in the future…

That left a fate worse than death waiting at the doorstep.

The waters stayed lost. Forgotten. Darkened.

That was what grasped him now.

True darkness.

Notes:

This is just a prologue; the real meat starts next chapter. We'll give more of the plot summary next time.
