He’s yet to get used to seeing another set of keys hanging on the rack by the foyer, but he would be damned if he'd said he’d rather not see that pair in its rightful spot, and wonder what else to put in the other slots of the key rack back then–other than his usual set of ID lanyards and the occasional umbrellas he’d always forget to sort elsewhere.
And he’s grateful he hadn’t reacted much on it either because the said owner of the keys walks to the door to greet him, followed by the first freeloader of the bunch.
“Welcome home, X.” He lets out a sigh he hadn’t realized he’d been holding, and relaxes his muscles at the feel of his partner’s fingertips moving to pull off his coat. They slide it off and fold it neatly by their arm and gesture to come inside the house, their house. His and theirs. And of course the house of the little demon pawing at his leg probably for treats.
“You’ve been fed already–what is it now, you little gremlin?” He chuckles, picking Cat up as they meow and boop his nose with their paw, a greeting he’s gotten used to this time, but with additional affection nowadays(probably because now the bastard doesn’t live alone while he’s gone during the day) from what he could tell with the purring the feline was making.
They turn back to look at him, smiling and giggling at Cat’s contentment. “Maybe Cat’s in a very good mood? Missed you more than usual?”
Xyx feigns hurt and betrayal, “Are you saying you didn’t miss me? Rude, doll.”
Between their added giggles, they retort back at him playfully. “Hard to miss you when you’re always with me.” And they continue, after calming down and settling with a warm smile, eyes lovingly looking back at him. “Be it through Cat, or through texts on my phone, or in person like right here and now, you’re always with me, Xyx.”
“And I hope that I take away your loneliness, too. I hope I make you realize you’re not alone, either.”
Affection wasn’t something he’d think he’d get. Someone who hated sincerity because it showed weakness, it showed that he wasn’t the guy who made people happy now that he’s been proven to be sad as well… To have a person like his darling right now, he thinks he’s taken too much of them for granted. And he’s starting to think they’ve caught on, too.
But his doll doesn’t show any signs of relapse, if they ever did notice. It would’ve been baffling had he not watched them show the same loving and teasing sides of them all this time they’ve been together. Still, it only drove him to want to go to the extremes for them as much as he would for himself to feel something.
Maybe it was time for a little vacation? Just the two of them–maybe even Cat if it behaved more and stopped being greedy for food and treats, which Xyx already knew would be damn near impossible–going out onto the world, perhaps skydiving, racing, jet skiing–
“You know, Sal teased me earlier this morning about a shotgun wedding and it made me realize it being fit for the likes of us.” They brought up abruptly, not noticing how he froze at their words. “You know, with how much we love to spice things up in our–hey! Xyx–!!”
He wakes up in a hospital bed without even doing any of the ideas he had in mind. It seems the idea of marrying his sweetheart so soon was enough to rush the blood so much in his brain that he’d…oh.
Sal chats them again that same day, worrying about his friend who he'd been told was hospitalized. Turns out dollface didn't tell him why, which Xyx doesn't know if he should be relieved or even more humiliated. When told about the real situation by the lawyer himself, Sal only responds with his curious nature. Life was simpler back then, he claims. Apparently when someone was in love back then, they really had the challenge to just show it off to everyone.
Xyx turns to his darling, both of them humored at the anecdote approaching their private channel, which, speaking of, Sal only recently noticed. Well, that was for another time of explanations, he thought to himself before switching off his laptop to hopefully tease the answers out of his beloved, to atleast not be the only one flustered at the encounter.
