TMNTober 4th: Bones

Summary:

Prompts by tmntober-2023 on tumblr!
Prompt: Bones!
Summary: Technically, Donnie and April are both in the “made into a monster against their will by a freak accident” club. And growing massive and then shrinking again afterwards has consequences.

Notes:

Anybody else remember when in the Back To The Sewer season April got turned into a literal demon? No? Just me? Ah well.

Work Text:

It was an angry bones kind of day.

Technically, that’s not what it was called, as both April and Donnie would readily point out if they weren’t both currently down for the count. A more accurate description was chronic pain, their bodies never quite settling after being massively expanded and then shrunk again. But, Mikey and Casey both called it “angry bones,” and the term has, much to Donnie’s dismay in particular, stuck.

“Heeey nerd club,” a soft voice called from the doorway of April’s guest room as Raph entered. “I brought you two some soup, courtesy o’ Mikey. How’re you doin’?”

April wasn’t sure she had ever heard him speak that gently. Raph got weird when he was on smothering duty.

From the bed next to hers came a miserable groan, and she reached over to sympathetically pat her brother’s shoulder. “I’m getting a break, but Don is going through it,” she said, like it wasn’t obvious. “We both took medication just before you came in, but I don’t think it’s kicked in yet.”

Raph hummed in acknowledgment while setting their soups on their respective night tables, and then sat down next to Donnie, who immediately used the opportunity to crawl over to lean his head on Raph’s lap.

“Raphieeeeee,” Donatello whined, eyes closed, “I am dying.

His brother snorted, “y’er bein’ soo dramatic, Don.”

“Nnnnope. Death is upon me. My skeleton is ready to hatch. Unzip my skin right now so he can be free.”

“Sorry, bro, I like your skeleton inside yer shell.”

Donnie gave his brother a disappointed frown, and then promptly passed out before he could argue further. Raph supposed the soup would have to wait.

“At this rate, we might have to ask the Ancient One to try and help,” April hummed between sips of her own bowl, delighting in a moment of respite from the pain.

“I dunno, Ape, maybe in your case a priest’d’ve been enough,” Raph joked, and then easily caught a pillow weakly flung his way.

“One more priest joke, and I’m putting the angry bone curse on you, too.”
