Work Text:
arwen watches the two men from across the table, a fond smile on her lips. she can see their hands intertwined under the table, but she won't say a word about it. she wishes they'd talk to her, she wishes they wouldn't be so afraid. aragorn's her brother after all, isn't he? and legolas could as well be too, at this point. so many years spent together at rivendell, so many memories.
she's snapped back from her thoughts as aragorn clears his throat. the table quiets down.
"my dear friends, we have finally overcome the darkness that has surrounded us for so long, and i wanted to thank all of you and the skies above for the faith you had in me. without you, i wouldn't be here at this table, eating and laughing with the lot of you." the men all cheered and smiled. "and as a way to celebrate this, i wanted to make an announcement." he looked quickly at the elf beside him, a look of encouragement on his face. "me and legolas are lovers, and soon to be wed." the table quiets down once again. "and you are all invited to the ceremony."
the room is silent for a moment, some looks of astonishment shared between some of them. arwen beams from joy and exclaims "oh, finally! i have waited so long for you to say this! i congratulate you, my dear brothers."
aragorn and legolas share a look between them. "it was..supposed to be a surprise." legolas says shyly.
arwen smiles. "not for the observant eyes of an elf, it wasn't. i do not know of your companions over here, but i have been aware of the two of you for a while now. i just waited for you to come forward and admit it."
she looks around the table and lifts her cup. "and now, let's cheer for this new to be wed couple, shall we?"
the men all raise their glasses and cheer, laughing and singing loudly, spreading joy towards the happy couple.
hours later, she sits in the balcony of the castle that is her home, admiring the bright stars painting the sky. she hears footsteps behind her and turns her head, already expecting the intruder. "brother." her gaze softens at the man before her. "i have waited for you to come find me."
aragorn slowly settles himself beside her and furrows his brows. "how did you know?"
she grins. "know what?"
he smiles a little. "about me and legolas. we thought we were keeping it a secret well enough."
"your love is too strong to be hid, estel." he widens his eyes at his old name. "it was obvious for years. i just knew how to be discreet about it. it wouldn't have helped with anything if i meddled into your relationship."
they grow silent for a few minutes. "thank you, sister. for the love you carry for me. for all of us." his eyes are shiny and wet, staring lovingly at the elf next to him.
"you don't have to thank me for a thing, estel. " arwen smiled warmly. "and also, please mention to legolas to keep his voice lower in your time together, my ears don't need to hear everything you do."
aragorn cackles loudly at this. "i'll make sure to tell him that."
they hug for a long time after this, and part their ways to each of their chambers. before entering hers, the last thing arwen hears is a murmur. "where were you, meleth nîn? i grew worried." and a soft whisper back "i was with arwen, beautiful. we were talking."
"did you thank her, as i asked you to?"
"i did, my prince. she said we have nothing to thank her for."
she hears a scoff. "that's ridiculous, she did so much for us!" arwen smiles.
"and she knows so too." a moment of silence.
"i love you, aragorn."
"i love you, legolas."
she drifts off to sleep with a smile on her lips, as her brothers continue talking.
she's glad they're finally happy.
