Despite knowing it was for the better, that there was no other way to save their life, Carlisle couldn't help but feel like he had doomed them. He didn't believe that vampirism corrupted a human's mortal soul like Edward did, but the guilt building inside of him begged to differ. If he hadn't gotten involved in her life than she wouldn't have been pushed to the brink of death, she wouldn't have had to turn to survive.
Carlisle had found her magangled body on the roadside heading into Forks. She had been out of town on a business trip. Carlisle had been waiting for her to come back, she was heading to his house first to see him. She wasn't far away when she crashed. A car had been speeding around the corner. The roads were slippery. She couldn't have reacted in time.
He didn't even think when he found her. He had smelt her blood and rushed forward. She was in bad shape, survival wasn't on the cards. He moved forward, biting into her neck, allowing his venom to flood her veins. He bit her once, twice, three times, before scooping her up and speeding back home.
It took only seconds for him to reach his office but by then she had already began writhing in his arms, the pain of the transformation had begun. Carlisle remembered it well. He knew it may not help but even then he had to try. Tentatively, he placed her down on the sofa facing the far wall before grabbing the morphine he kept on hand just in case something happened.
He slid the needle into her arm, there was more resistance that normal but rather than dwell on it, he placed that to the early stages of the transformation. He couldn't think much about it, this was his fault so he had to push all of his attention into her, it was the least he could do.
