Work Text:

Adrien ground his teeth together and willed himself not to move around too much. If he could focus, maybe he'd be able to forget about the itch. It was all about mind over matter. He could do it!

He tried to think about how warm Marinette was as he snuggled into her. The autumn air had a bite to it but he could barely feel it thanks to her. She sighed happily and he smiled into the night. Everything was great.

Until the itch flared up again, this time impossible to ignore.

He groaned quietly and tried to reach with the hand that wasn't on Marinette's waist, but no matter which way he tried, he couldn't hit the right spot right between his shoulder blades. And of course, all this couldn't go unnoticed by her.

"What is it, kitty?"

Using the fact that she had pulled back to look at him questioningly, Adrien reached for his baton and extended it to have another go at the itchy spot. However, it lacked the precision of his fingers and the itch remained.

"Argh. I can't reach it."

"What is it?"

"It itches," he practically whined.

"Turn around," she gave him an amused smile. "Here?"

"No, a little higher," he said. The tip of her finger barely brushed the spot but then missed it, making him shuffle around in frustration.

"What is it? Are you finally living up to your nickname?" She teased him.

"I don't, ah, know what you mean," he said, as her fingers continued dancing up his back but still didn't dispel the irritating feeling.

"Did a flea bite you?" Marinette said in his ear, her voice very much reminding him of the time when she was Shadybug. And this was how he remembered.

"That's not very nice," he pouted. "I thought we were over that."

"It's just a joke," she chuckled.

"Would you find it funny if I carry around bug spray?" he threw her a look over his shoulder. She made a face.

"Ok, I see your point. No more flea jokes," she promised.

"Come to think of it, maybe it was another bug," Adrien smirked as an idea formed in his mind. She wasn't the only one who could joke.

"Huh?"

"I remember a certain bug in my bed. A bedbug." He was referring to the time when she had fallen asleep as they watched a movie and he hadn't had the heart to wake her up. He had to be careful not to take the joke too far though because he very much wanted to fall asleep cuddling her some other time.

At her indignant gasp, he couldn't hold back his laughter.

"I didn't bite you on the back, ok? I don't bite, full stop," she said firmly.

"Are you sure about that?" he turned around to look at her again. He had almost forgotten about the annoying itch because this was too entertaining.

He saw her eyes widen as she remembered. Thanks to his night vision, seeing her red cheeks was no problem.

"I didn't... it wasn't on purpose! It was just a peck," she protested weakly.

"With your teeth," he grinned. "I can still feel it," he added, licking his bottom lip. This was a lie. It had long healed but it was worth it to see her face turn a darker shade of red.

"Oh God. I'm sorry. I'll take my teeth off next time I kiss you," she mumbled as she looked away.

"You're not some granny, Marinette," Adrien laughed as he pulled her into his arms. "I'm just kidding. I didn't mind at all. You're welcome to bite me any time," he said with a wide smile.

"You!... you..." She shrieked, but he muffled whatever she was trying to say next with his lips. A hand slapped him on the upper arm, but he felt her smile into the kiss and knew that he was forgiven.

"There, there," he said softly, long after she had melted into him.

"I thought your back itched," Marinette giggled. "What happened to it?"

"Well, now that you reminded me," he made a face. "There it is."

"Let's try again. Here?"

Her fingers were warm on his back but he couldn't focus on this.

"A little to the right. Some more. Ah, there," he sighed as the tips of her fingers helped ease the irritated skin. "I love you," he practically cooed as he finally relaxed completely.

"I just scratched your back," she laughed.

But the tone of her voice said something else. She sounded even happier than him because she had helped him feel better.

"You're the best bug," he turned around, catching her off guard as he wrapped her in his arms again.

"We'll both tumble down from this rooftop if you're not careful," she laughed in his ear.

"I'm not worried as long as I'm with you," he said, kissing the top of her head.

"Dork."

Said dork just nuzzled her hair contentedly, the itch already forgotten.
