Work Text:
Cyno was tired.
Cyno had just gotten done taking care of some eremites, while they were easy to handle there were still a lot so it took more energy than Cyno would like to admit it to defeat them.
All Cyno would like to do is get a good amount of sleep; which he could now do since he was done with this matra duties for the night.
Soon enough Cyno finds himself knocking on Alhaitham’s door and he’s almost surprised when Alhaitham opens door. They stare at each other for a few seconds before Alhaitham simply walks back to the couch and starts reading his book. Cyno closes the door and goes to sit next to Alhaitham.
“Sorry if I interrupted your reading.”
“I'm merely just rereading.”
Cyno lets himself lean into Alhaitham’s shoulder and closes his eyes. They stay like that enjoying each other’s company in silence (except for the occasional flip of a page). After a while Cyno would’ve thought he was close to falling asleep but he knew it wouldn’t be that easy; it was never that easy for him to fall asleep. Alhaitham ends up breaking Cyno out of his gaze by wrapping apart of his cloak around Cyno.
“Will you indulge me and tell me why you came here?”
Cyno shrugs. If he had to be honest he was just kind of on autopilot and let his feet guide him and they lead him here. “I was just walking and I guess you came to my subconscious mind and so I came here.”
Alhaitham lets out a sound and goes back to reading. They stay like that some more but Cyno just can't will himself to go to sleep.
Too quiet.
Cyno sighs and opens his eyes which immediately stare at Alhaitham. “What’re you reading?”
“A simple book about Sumerian language.”
“Hm…”
Cyno nods and after a little more stating at Alhaitham he decides to stare at the wall. Neither are share how long they stay like that until Alhaitham finally speaks up. “Would you like for me to read out loud so it’ll be easier to sleep?”
Cyno shakes his head. “Not if you’ll be reading your usual books.”
Alhaitham subtlety lets out a huff (but not subtle enough for Cyno not to notice). “I wasn’t aware that you didn't like my taste in books.”
“No it's not that. It's just I’ll start to analyze any of the books you like to read which will result in me not getting any sleep at all.”
Alhaitham sighs even though they both know he’s not actual upset. He gets up and starts to walk away.
“Where are you going?”
“Getting a book that you most likely won’t analyze.”
And with that Alhairham walks to his personal study. After a few minutes Alhaitham comes back with a light novel in his hand.
“Is that one of Kavehs?” Cyno asks as the man sits down.
“Not exactly it’s a gift the traveler sent to the both of us from Fontaine. But I imagine it’s more for him than it is for me.”
“Hm I don’t doubt you still read it.”
“You’d be correct and as expected it wasn’t to my tastes.”
“What is it”
“Just a murder mystery.”
Hm… has Kaveh read it yet?”
“No he’s been too busy.”
Cyno nods.
“I assume it's fine if I read this one while you try to sleep.”
“Sure.”
Alhaitham starts to read as Cyno lays his head on his chest and closes his eyes.
Once Cyno wakes up the next morning he realizes he’d been moved to Alhaitham’s bed and that there was a savory aroma coming from the kitchen.
