The Hypocrites

Summary:

Bly and Fox are out at a bar, but Fox's eyes are on someone across the room and not to worried about Bly's ramblings on Aayla. Bly notices this and points it out, which leads to a conversation.

Notes:

Hey ya'll, your favorite besties decided to frantic fanfic in the middle of the night and came up with this. So obviously we did a little editing and wanted to share it to the public because it's chaos.

Hopefully you enjoy!

Work Text:

Bly was sitting at a table with Fox in a bar. They were the only two of their batch on Coruscant currently, and originally planned to stay in Fox's office. That was until Fox heard about someone being in a bar nearby, and Bly was silently brought along. He really wasn't against it though considering he could really use a drink after the last couple weeks.

But it turns out the more Bly drank, the more he talked about Aayla. Which is concerning a little, considering how much they talk about her when they are sober. But Fox wasn't paying attention to the rambling words about Aayla coming out of Bly's mouth. Fox was paying attention to a certain someone else who was across the bar, seemingly talking to other men. It was the person that Fox came here for after he heard the guy was around.

Bly stopped in the middle of their rambling and let his eyes follow off to where Fox was looking. Once he saw who Fox was looking at, a small smirk grew on his face. Bly was probably the best person to catch Fox in the act of this because he was the nicest out of their batch, but that didn't mean that Fox was safe. No, Bly would go at him for this no matter how much of a hypocrite it made him.

" I never thought you'd be jealous about Quinlan Vos of all people."

Fox nearly fell out of his chair when Bly said that. He was able to stabilize himself somehow.

" Shut up, I'm not jealous." Fox hissed, looking back at Bly, " And I never thought you would say those words to me."

" Fox, it's okay to admit it." Bly says, a small smile appearing on his face, " We've all been jealous of a good-looking Jedi talking to other people."

Fox glared at him and took a sip of his drink. Bly just watched him, now really knowing why the others felt so good when teasing Fox. Sometimes he didn't get it because Fox seemed like he had enough going on. But maybe all Bly needed to get it was a drink and Fox making jealous eyes at Quinlan Vos.

" This all you are talking about does not include me."

"Are you sure?"

"Bly, you're simply projecting. Ponds doesn't need another batchmate who's in love with their General,"

"Mmm that's true," Bly took another sip of his drink, some fruity, neon-colored abomination, "But I don't think he gets much of a say in it, vod, and the way you look at him--"

"Projecting," Fox grumbled, and threw back another shot, "Just because you want to bang his sister-figure doesn't mean you get to make it my problem."

Bly rolled his eyes, but since it was Bly and not, for example, Cody or Wolffe, kindly let the matter drop. For about ten minutes.

"So," Bly said, when they were both firmly on the wrong side of tipsy, and Fox was still not focusing on Bly gushing about his General, or the drunk vode getting up to shenanigans around them (Fox wasn't on duty, so it wasn't his problem if an arc was plotting something that sounded suspiciously like treason within earshot), or the blaring EDM music, that sounded less like music and more like an imminent migraine, so loud he could feel the base in his chest-- but instead still badly hiding his glances at Vos chatting up some other patron.

"So?"

"What if-- what if I told her and you told him. We forced the other to not chicken out and ruin the youngest three's bets on the matter."

Fox hesitated, before reaching for another glass, "Ponds is in on the ring too, Bly."

"What?? He is???"

"Mhmmm," Fox said, swirling the liquor a little before downing it, "We've been betrayed by all we hold dear."

"Bets on me too?" Bly said, because he was naive and thought Ponds's soft spot for him would save him from the scheming. Fox, burdened with no such expectations, knew it would not.

Fox raised an eyebrow. Bly sighed, defeated.

"I'm gonna be having a talk with him about that...But anyways, you should tell him, Fox."

Fox decided to come up with a stupid excuse. Really it did not make sense at all, but you know, he was too drunk to care.

" Animals can't talk." Fox says, taking a sip from his freshly arrived drink.

" What do you mean?" Bly asks, totally confused on where that came from.

" Animals can't talk," Fox places the drink down, " And I'm named after one."

Bly gave him a blank stare, trying to get his tipsy brain to process the words just said to them. He got it but was also very confused at the same time.

" But you are literally talking to me right now." Bly says, " You can talk Fox, you're not an animal."

" But I'm named after one, therefore I cannot talk," Fox continues to explain delusionally, " That means that I can't talk to him, I can't confess, therefore I am not jealous and will never say anything."

Bly just sighed into his cup, before taking another sip. " Only you would come up with that excuse."

" Oh, you would too, just probably sober and if you named yourself after an animal." Fox grumbled before chugging the rest of his drink.

Bly just blushed and tried to hide it, no matter how much harder it was in this setting. Maybe Fox was right, but Bly wasn't going to let those words come out of his mouth. If they did, he would regret them forever.

" Listen, I would not." Bly says, placing his cup down, " That's just stupid."

" Oh, you totally would." Fox rolls his eyes, placing his empty drink down as well. " You just don't want to admit it."

" But you are admitting that it's an excuse while saying that." Bly replies with a slight smirk.

" Oh shut up-"
