While she wasn't always the best at following them, Woo understood that there were certain rules about how one in her field was supposed to act. A lot of her Autistic traits were just not seen as acceptable by the bulk of her coworkers, so she tried not to let them show as much.
So, when Lee casually brought up whales in the middle of a regular conversation, her brain short-circuited for a moment.
She was quick to tell him about all of the rules that their were, including not talking about whales, but instead of realizing his blunder and moving on, he actually countered her argument by saying it was just the two of them and that it was okay to break some of those rules when it was just the two of them.
She was not used to this kind of acceptance. Her father had always been pretty loving toward her, but he also wasn't the most engaging in conversation and he was the one who had given her the rules in the first place. For Lee to just come along and tell her that the rules had exceptions?
Well, she was so baffled that she even began to wonder if she was falling for him. There were worse people to fall for, surely. He was awfully kind, fairly attractive, and now was indulging her in whale conversation?
Once the case at hand was settled and out of the way, she needed to follow up on this train of thought.
