“Hey Jimmy,” Jess greets him with a smile as he wanders into the squad room, “where are McGee and Torres? I thought they’d be back by now.”
“Oh, Tim had to stop off and pick up his anniversary present for Delilah,” Jimmy places the case file he’d been carrying carefully in front of her then leans against her desk, “they’ll be back soon.”
“Oh,” making a mental note to get them a card, she asks, “is it a big anniversary?”
“Six years-” there’s an almost proud grin on his face- “I can’t believe it was six years ago I married them, feels like it’s only been a year or two.”
Blinking, Jess does a double take at his choice of words, “Wait, Jimmy, you what?”
“Yeah, I was ‘Reverend Jimmy’ for the day,” he pulls out his phone and turns it to display a blurry photo, “right there in their apartment.”
It’s a selfie, clearly taken by Jimmy but with Tim and Delilah at the centre. A woman in all black has her arms around as many people as possible, Nick is there too and Vance. Gibbs is hiding at the back, dragged into frame by Ducky and Ellie is squished between a black man she doesn’t recognise and… is that one of her old FLETC instructors?
They’re not all looking at the camera and the lighting isn’t the best but their smiles couldn’t be faked.
And yet, Jess is completely thrown out of the moment by the knowledge of where they’re all stood.
“The same apartment with the triple homicide?” she clarifies in disbelief.
“Technically, it was a quadruple homicide. Tim shot someone in there too. And then he shot someone else a year or two later but that was unrelated,” he informs her a little too cheerfully.
“And they got married there?!”
McGee materialises in the squad room with Torres at his side before Jimmy can answer, slinging his bag down on the ground next to his desk and sitting down in his chair with a gentle thump.
“We did and it was magical,” he confirms, eyes twinkling.
Jimmy agrees, “It was,” staring thoughtfully off into space.
From his place leaning against his desk, Nick calls over, “Palmer, I seem to remember you telling them to smooch.”
Shooting Jess a wink as she snorts in disbelief, Jimmy defends himself, “And I argue that it added to the romance!”
