I Hate That I'm Drawn to You

Summary:

Killua Zoldyck, an assassin, hated soulmates. They were stupid. There was no changing his mind about it. So why the hell did he get a dumb red string? So many people didn't get one, including most of his family, so why did he have one? He hated the whole concept of soulmates! Another question, why was he putting up with his soulmate who insisted on talking almost every day via Morse code? Why was he responding? Why did he remember everything about his stupid soulmate? Why was he answering questions about himself?

It was so fucking confusing to him.

Work Text:

If Killua was sure of one thing from his twelve years of living, it was that the “ReD sTrInG oF fAtE’ was stupid. It was utter bullshit. Why would he let a stupid string that appeared on his pinky on his twelfth birthday decide who he loves? Why did people even believe that garbage? He wasn’t sure. All he knew was that soulmates were bologna.

So why was he sitting on his bed, four months after getting his string, using Morse code to talk with him? Yes, him. Killua’s soulmate was a guy, too. He just found that out. Along with his name, age, and where he liv- wait, why did his soulmate—Gon, as he learned—tell him where he lived?

A sharp tug from Killua quickly stopped Gon in the middle of his word, he guessed that he was on the ground now. But that doesn’t matter, he needed answers. ‘Why did you say where you live’ he signed quickly.

‘Not sure’ was the only answer he got. Killua rolled his eyes, how dumb was his soulmate? ‘What’s your last name?’

‘Huh,’ Killua’s tugs on the red string were growing stronger and more impatient, he couldn’t believe he was still putting up with this boy.

‘Last name’ there was a pause before more light tugs came from the other side. ‘Mine is Freecs’ weird last name. How exactly would Killua even pronounce that? Why did he even care about how to say it?

After a little hesitation, Killua decided to tell him. If they were soulmates, Gon wouldn’t care if he was an assassin, right? ‘Zoldyck’

“Cool’ Killua smiled at the shorter tugs, most likely meaning the other boy was excited to know more about him. He noticed that a lot, the string moving up and down slightly, maybe it was a habit of the boy or something... No reaction to his name, though… maybe he doesn’t know- Wait, why does he even care about that? Soulmates are stupid anyways. And why was he noticing his habits now?!

‘I gtg, bye’

‘Bye,’ The silver-haired boy signed back quickly. Why did he even take the time to sign a goodbye back to him? He hated how his brain was working right now. That night he went to bed thinking about what this Gon person looked like, even if he didn’t know why he was thinking this. God, he hated this so much.

~~~
Killua woke up the next day, literally flying out of his bed. He groaned, rubbing the back of his head. He was about to yell at Illumi for throwing him in the morning again but before he could he got pulled strongly by his arm again. Specifically his pinky- wait, Gon? He scrambled to his feet, snatching up his book and flipping to the page on Morse code, it was too damn early and he was way too tired to remember it off the top of his head. ‘wth’ He pushed away his creeping thoughts pointing out that his first reaction was talk instead of ignore.
‘Hunter exam’ The pulls on the string were sharper and stronger than yesterday.
‘What abt it’ he returned the harshness of his soulmate’s tugs, hoping he got the message and lightened up.
‘You should go’ Gon did get the message but Killua was still pissed.
‘No’ he stated simply.
‘Yes’
‘No’
‘Yes’
‘No’
‘Yes’
‘No’
‘Yes’
‘No’
‘Yes’
‘Fine’ Killua gave in, his pinky was getting sore. Plus, it wasn’t like he was actually going to go.
Killua could feel the gentle bounce of the string, he assumed that meant he was jumping up and down. He sighed, theoretically, if he were to go, how would he even escape his psychopathic family? Well, he wasn’t exactly in a place to judge, but… ‘When is it?’
‘Deadline is December 31’ That was about a month away, if he, theoretically, wanted to apply on time, he would have to escape pretty soon. Maybe he could just storm out of there, or make a big scene…? If he injured Piggy or Mom he might just be able to walk right out without anyone. He would want to go for Illumi but he was fucking terrifying and he couldn’t exactly beat him in a fight.
~~~

Jeezus, that situation with Kikyo and Piggy was a fucking freak show. It doesn’t matter now, though, he was currently stepping out of an elevator and into the lobby for the exam. It’s been pretty simple so far. In the underground waiting room thing, a green blob gave him a numbered pin, telling him a few rules. He put it on, guessing the number ‘99’ was for how early he got there. So he was the 99th person to arrive, huh? Cool.

Now, to his real concern… Why the actual fuck was he there?! The only motivation he had was his stupid soulmate and he didn’t even like the concept or the person! It was so stupid! He went through all the trouble of fighting with Mom and Piggy just to meet with some random kid?! Why was he so fucking drawn to this guy? Ugh, he hated it so much!

“Hey, I haven’t seen you here before,” A random guy approached him, smiling largely at him. They seemed a bit strange, honestly, killua would rather go back to being an assassin than have to talk to him. Well, maybe that was slightly exaggerated but still.

“Yeah, bye.” He stated simply walking to the wall and fiddling with the sting on his pinky.

“Wait! At least take this, a peace offering” The person smiled sweetly, running after Killua and holding out a can to him. It was obvious they were trying to poison Killua, but it didn’t matter so why not? He grabbed it and opened it, chugging it immediately. The person just stared at him for a second, seemingly surprised, walking away soon after without saying anything.

There was a pull from his string, making him stumble slightly forward. He took that as a signal. ‘You here’ he asked. Why did he ask? He didn’t care and he sure as hell didn’t want to meet this guy!

‘Almost’ came the reply from Gon. Well, guess he’ll have to wait for a while longer. Maybe he’ll go get more soda from that person, despite whatever drug, poison, or other thing it was laced with, it was decent.

~~~
“Kiluaaaaaa” Killua didn’t have time to react when he was hugged from behind.
“Ha-” He cut himself off, noticing that the arms wrapped around him had dumb little a red string around one pinky. But you can only see the string that connects you and your soulmate- “Gon..?”
“That’s me!” He chirped from behind him, squeezing Killua tighter.
“Let me go,” he gasped, trying to wiggle away from his newfound soulmate's grasp.
“Right, sorry,” he let go, chuckling a little. Killua turned, being met with a bright boy with honey-brown colored eyes, spiky black and green hair, and tanned skin. He stared, Gon was nothing like he thought he would be…
“You’re really pretty, Killua!” Gon chirped before either of them could get their thoughts fully together.
Killua’s face quickly turned a light pink, and he looked away from Gon, crossing his arms. “Shut up.” Why was he embarrassed by this kid? He didn’t care about him or the fact that they were tied together by the universe, supposedly a great match for each other.
“Gon, who’s this?” A, from what Killua could tell, girl with shoulder-length blonde hair asked, walking up to the two boys with what looked like a middle-aged or old ass man.
“Kurapika, Leorio! This is Killua!” He chirped, turning and grinning at the two.
“How do you two know each other?” The taller one asked, raising an eyebrow at the silver-haired boy.
“He’s my soulmate!” Killua’s cheeks flushed a deeper pink at this. Why would Gon just say that?
“Shut up! That’s embarrassing!” He hissed, why didn’t he say that soulmates were stupid?
“Why?” Gon tilted his head. “It’s true.”
“That doesn’t make it any better!”
“I don’t see a problem with it…”
“Of course you don’t!”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
Kurapika and Leorio just watched the two bicker like they were an old married couple. They found the two cute, it didn’t help that they already thought of Gon as their child. It was adorable, seeing the two yelling back and forth, Killua’s face growing a brighter red as Gon just got more and more confused. Even when Gon kept trying to hug Killua or hold his hand as the test went on, even if Killua kept pushing him away time after time. Gon seemed to stim more around Killua, too. It was pretty nice, seeing how comfortable the two were with each other. It was like they were naturally drawn to each other, Kurapika couldn't help thinking that even if they weren't soulmates, they would still be drawn together. Even if it seemed like Killua hated it sometimes.
