I Don't Know You But I Know You

Summary:

Gon Freecs has spent the last two months just waiting. He felt like he was waiting forever, though. He knew that you only got your color when both you and your soulmate were 12 years old but he was getting impatient! Honestly, he expected his soulmate to be older than him. But, no, of course, they had to be younger than him. He just hoped that he wouldn't have to wait for too much longer.

Work Text:

Gon fidgeted nervously, why didn’t he get his soulmate color yet? He gets that it only shows up when both people are twelve but it’s been like- two months! What’s going on? He was getting impatien-

“Gon, did you dye your hair?” Mito’s voice broke him out of his thoughts. He hadn’t realized he’d sat down in the dining room until now.

“Huh! No, what do you mean?” He tilted his head a little, confused.

“Then I guess you got your color!” Mito said, moving quickly to the side with a small chuckle as Gon bolted to the bathroom. He looked in the mirror, finding a patch of electric blue in his hair. He squealed, jumping up and down and flapping his hands slightly.

“I got it! I finally got it!” He yelled to himself. This was so exciting! He ran out of the bathroom and out the door, ignoring his aunt’s calls. He ran around, trying to see if anyone had the same color as him. The few kids that were there were in a group so that made it easier to see if his soulmate was on Whale Island. Two girls had a matching muted red, a boy and girl had lilac purple, and the last boy didn’t have a color.

Gon sighed, trailing sadly back to his house. Guess his soulmate wasn’t here… Gon knew some people went their whole lives without meeting their soulmate but he was gonna find his. He had to find them.

“Bye, Aunt Mito!” He yelled, waving his orange-haired mother figure goodbye as the boat he was on floated away. Once he couldn’t make out her figure he turned away, exploring the ship. Out of everyone, he found two people the most interesting. They were soulmates, too. One blonde person, they looked like a girl but he couldn’t tell, and a tall black-haired boy, to be honest, Gon thought he looked old, their color was a bright scarlet red.

“Hi! I’m Gon, what are your guy’s names?” He chirped, walking up to the shorter one in the pair and holding out his hand.

“Kurapika” They sounded like a guy so Gon assumed that they were male.

“Mr. Leorio,” said the other one, taking Gon’s hand once he moved over.

“So, you two are…” he slightly teased, looking between the two. He couldn’t lie, they looked pretty cute together.

“We just met!” Leorio yelled, cheeks dusting a light pink as he turned away from both of them, not just by turning his head, he rotated his whole-ass body. A bit over the top, but it got the point across.

That didn’t mean Gon was gonna stop though.

“But you’re soulmates!”

Gon looked around the lobby area, seeing if there were any kids his age
there. He sighed, not being able to find anyone. Then, a random guy—who had no soulmate color, guess he was aromantic or something—walked up to the trio, talking about how many times he tried and failed this exam. Eventually, he offered them each soda as a sort of peace offering. Gon and his friends grabbed the cans, none of them thinking too much of it.

As soon as the orange drink touched Gon’s tongue he had to suppress the urge to gag. It tasted really bad, there was no way this was okay to consume. Not sure what else to do, he let the liquid flow out of his open mouth, hating the bitter taste. “Sir, I'm sorry but I think your drinks are expired…”

Upon hearing this, Leorio spit it out. He started yelling something as Kurapika, who hadn’t even taken a sip yet, poured his out. Gon just walked away into the crowd, trying to see if anyone had the same color as him. He pushed through the crowd, looking for even a glimpse of blue.

Before he could even get to the middle of the crowd, the first trial started and everyone began running after the instructor. Gon felt weird being separated from his friends but focused on the task at hand. He ran, falling near the front of the crowd. In a twist of fate, Leorio and Kurapika came up a bit behind him, Gon only knew this from Leorio’s furious screech.

“That’s cheating!” He spat out furiously. Upon hearing this, Gon turned and saw a boy with silver hair on a skateboard. There was a streak of electric blue in the front of his hair.

That’s him! That’s Gon’s soulmate! The boy skated up next to Gon. “Actually, Leorio,” Gon began, looking back at his friend. “He just said we needed to follow him, not run.”

“Yeah, old man. Listen to…” The boy trailed off, a light blush appearing on his cheeks as he stared at Gon. He seemed to realize the fact that they were soulmates, he slowed slightly as he forgot to kick his skateboard forward. After a second or two he tore his eyes away from Gon, kicking his skateboard up and running next to Gon, refusing to look at him.

“My name’s Gon! What about you, soulmate?” Gon asked, sending the point home. He was so excited about this, if he wasn’t running he would be jumping and flapping his hands right now.

“Killua…” The boy, Killua, answered simply, it was a bit curious to Gon as to how Killua ran so well with his skateboard tucked under his arm.

“Let’s race to the end!” Gon cheered, grinning at Killua.

“You’re on!”

Despite only just now meeting Killua, Gon felt so close to him. He felt like he’d known him for years, like they were already best friends. He loved his time with Killua, even if Killua acted cold and, at times, like he hated Gon and the whole concept of soulmates. He still didn’t care. He knew Killua was possibly one of his favorite people already.
