Work Text:
Mike was shocked when he opened his bedroom door to find his boyfriend waiting on his bed.
“Babe, what are you doing here?” He asked, closing the door.
“I thought since you can’t come out, I could sneak in,” Will smirked. “Just like we used to.”
Mike was very intrigued. He crawled up next to Will, and started kissing him passionately. Eventually, Will straddled his waist and started kissing his neck. It had been a week since they were last alone together.
“I’ve missed you,” Mike breathed, reaching down to squeeze Will’s ass.
Will sat up. “It’s not my fault you’re stupid,” he joked. “I’m kidding. That was really cool, what you did for Max.”
One Week Earlier
“Max, do you need help unpacking?” Ted asked her.
Max shook her head, “No, I’ve got it. Thanks, though.”
“Are you sure?” Ted grabbed a box and started taking things out of it. “It’s a lot of-,” he stopped when he dropped a brown paper sack on the ground. “Stuff.”
Max’s eyes widened. She didn’t have an excuse. He knew exactly what it was.
“Mayfield, I’m going to ask you one time,” Ted looked at her. “Be honest. What is this doing in my house?”
Max didn’t give an answer. She just stood there, not sure what to do.
“You’re out,” Ted said. “I won’t tolerate this kind of thing in my house.”
“It’s mine,” Mike said, from the doorway. He stepped into the room next to Max.
“Yours?” Ted looked at him.
“Mike, don’t,” Max warned.
Mike nodded. “It’s mine. Max was just hanging onto it so you wouldn’t find it. So, if you’re kicking her out, you have to kick me out too.”
Ted’s blood was boiling. “All right. Fun time is over. From now on, you will go to school and then come home. You will have a curfew. No more making out with the neighbor boys.”
“Dad,” Mike tried.
“If I catch you and that Byers boy within five feet of each other, I’m going to kick your ass,” Ted told him.
“I can’t be stuck here all week. Will has an art show this weekend,” Mike explained. “I can’t be the shitty boyfriend who doesn’t show up.”
“Can and will,” Ted smirked. “Fun time is over!”
Present Day
“It’s not like we don’t all do it,” Mike pointed out. “And, I couldn’t let Ted kick her out. It’s not fair to her.”
“Awe,” Will beamed. “You do care about Max!”
“Don’t go around telling people,” Mike warned.
Will went back to kissing him. It didn’t take long for Mike to flip them over and hover over Will. However, they were interrupted by knocking on the door.
“Bed checks,” Ted said through the door.
“Shit,” Will breathed.
“Hide,” Mike said, getting off of Will.
Will hid in Mike’s closet in just the knick of time. Ted and Karen entered the room as a unit.
“Hello, son,” Ted smiled. “Are you bored?”
Mike nodded. “Seeing as how I can’t go out to see my boyfriend, yeah. I’m pretty fucking miserable.”
“Good,” Ted smiled.
“I’m sorry,” Karen mouthed.
Ted walked over to Mike’s window and nailed it shut. “Perfect.”
“Ted, what are you doing?” Karen asked.
“Making sure that Byers boy can’t sneak in,” Ted told her. “Looks like you’ll have to settle for walkie sex.”
Mike was mortified. So was Karen.
Luckily, Will was able to sneak out behind them. Unfortunately, he ducked into Max’s room to literally find Lucas going down on her.
“What the hell?” Max shrieked, closing her legs.
“Ted’s doing bed checks,” Will informed them, closing his eyes.
Then, there was a knock. “Bed checks,” Ted hollered.
Lucas and Will scrambled under the bed. Max quickly put her sweatpants back on and pretended like she was doing tricks on her skateboard.
The door opened, and Ted and Karen walked in.
Max stopped tie tacking and looked up at them. “What’s up?”
“Just checking on you kids,” Ted smiled.
“He’s policing,” Karen said, walking over to the bed and slyly handing Lucas his shoe.
He reached up and grabbed it, Karen’s body shielding the action.
Max tried to hold in a laugh. The entire thing was pretty comical.
“Have a good night, sweetie,” Ted said, motioning Karen out.
“If you need an escape plan, let me know,” Karen whispered.
Max ushered them out of her room, closing the door and listening through it. They still had to check Holly’s room.
“You’ve got a little something on your-,” Will pointed to Lucas’s upper lip.
“Thanks,” he whispered, wiping the liquid off of himself.
Once the coast was clear, Max walked back to the bed. The boys crawled out, and felt a sense of relief.
“I’ll let you two get back to it,” Will said, making his way to the door.
“Oh, like you and Mike weren’t doing the same thing,” Max crossed her arms.
“We hadn’t gotten that far, yet,” Will told them. “And, the anatomy is a little different.”
Max and Lucas ignored him and went back to making out. So, Will reentered Mike’s room.
“There you are,” Mike sat up in his bed. “I was getting worried.”
Will crawled on top of Mike and snuggled into his neck. “Sorry, I was getting a free show next door.”
“You aren’t gonna leave me for Lucas, are you?” Mike wanted to know, half serious.
Will kissed Mike’s neck, and snuggled deeper. “Never. You never end up with your first crush, anyways.”
Mike pulled Will back up to look at him. “First crush?”
“Lucas was my first crush,” Will told him. “Well, I mean I had always liked you. So, nothing really registered until I saw Lucas running the mile in 5th grade.”
Mike’s eyes widened. “He does have a nice ass,” he realized. “And, who says you don’t end up with your first crush? I just happen to have mine in my bed, right now.”
Will giggled. “I love you, dork.”
“I’m your dork,” Mike smiled.
Will snuggled into Mike again, content.

The next morning, Mike went down to the kitchen to find Ted and Max at the table. Karen was putting more food on the table.
“Good morning,” Ted said, not taking his eyes off of the newspaper.
Mike sat down, miserably. Usually, Will got to eat with them. But this morning, he had to sneak out the basement door.
Max looked just as miserable. She hasn’t been allowed at the skatepark all week.
“Oh, cheer up,” Karen said, putting pancakes on all of their plates. “We’re gonna have a pleasant day, today.”
Then, Holly entered the kitchen. She was wearing the shortest shorts in history, putting Will’s short shorts to shame.
“What is God’s name are you wearing?” Ted looked at her.
“Clothes,” Holly shrugged, sitting down at the table by Mike.
“Did you cut your jeans?” Karen asked her daughter.
Holly nodded. “They were too long.”
Nobody spoke for a few minutes. The tension was evident.
“I’m going to Janie’s tonight,” Holly said. “Her dad’s taking us to see Pink Floyd.”
“No, you are not,” Ted told her. “Nobody is leaving this house after 8 p.m., and that’s that.”
Holly groaned. “Why did you bitches have to drag me down with you?”
“You know, Holly,” Mike looked at her. “Leaving the house means you have to put on a bra.”
She stuck her tongue out at her brother, earning a laugh from Max.
“You’re just upset because you’ll never get to take one off,” Holly fought back.
Mike chuckled. “Joke’s on you. Will doesn’t need bras.”
“Thank God,” Holly continued. “Because, you already have a hard time getting his boxers off.”
“BURN!” Max shouted.
“Now, now,” Karen tried to get between them. “Let’s all be happy, happy people, and get along.”
“I hate this family,” Holly said, exiting the kitchen.
Mike took a deep breath. He did have something important to ask his father. “Dad, Will’s having an art show at the community center tonight. Can I please go?”
Ted shook his head. “You know your curfew is at eight.”
“Dad, he’s my boyfriend,” Mike reminded him. “I can’t just not show up. He’s worked really hard for this.”
“You have to live with the consequences you brought on yourself,” Ted told him.

The party all congregated on the quad for lunch. Lucas was resting his head in Max’s lap. Dustin was collecting insects. El and Erica were doing homework. And, Mike was holding Will between his legs.
“I’m sorry, I can’t go tonight,” Mike sighed. “I wish I could.”
“It’s okay,” Will forced a smile. “There will be others.”
But, Will was really sad. He wanted Mike to be there for his first show. He was the inspiration for most of his work, anyways.
“It’s not fair to you,” Mike said, playing with Will’s hair.
Will turned around, and climbed into Mike’s lap. “It’s not like you’re ditching me on purpose.”
“I’m sorry, Will,” Max breathed. “It’s my fault Mike can’t go. Hell, I never thanked you for taking the hit for me.”
“It’s not your fault,” Mike told her. “The group wouldn’t be the same without you. I couldn’t let him kick you out.”
“God, when did Mike become the most selfless member of the group?” Dustin asked. “It’s not like this even concerns Will.”
El laughed. “He knows Will would be pissed at him, if he let anything happen to Max. Don’t get it twisted.”
“Contrary to popular belief, Will isn’t the only person I care about,” Mike fought. “He’s just the person I care about the most.”
“Why don’t you just sneak out?” Lucas suggested.
“That’s genius,” Will fist bumped him.
“Okay, baby,” Mike smiled. “I’m sneaking out to come see you.”
Will kissed Mike’s face all over. “I love you, Mike Wheeler.”
“I love you too, babe,” Mike kissed his lips.
Just then, Troy walked by. “What’s up with you queers?”
“Would you like to be relocated somewhere you’re stuck in miles of endless frozen tundra?” Max asked. “Because, I can make that happen.”
He rolled his eyes and left.
“Looks like we’re sneaking you guys out,” Erica smirked.
-
“You know what I love?” Ted asked his wife.
Karen shrugged. “No, Ted. What would that be?”
“Order,” he smiled. “I know what every single person in this house is doing, at all times.”
What Ted couldn’t see, was five teenagers sneaking Mike, Max and Holly out the backyard.
Karen saw her kids and gulped. “You sure do.”
“That’s good parenting 101,” he said, sipping his coffee.
But, Mike’s dumb ass knocked the garbage can lid off. The ruckus caused Ted to get up and make his way out to the backyard.
“Oh, geez,” Karen blinked, getting up to follow him.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Ted demanded.
Holly was quick to throw the rest of the gang under the bus, walking up to her father. “Daddy, they kidnapped me.”
Mike spoke up. “I’m going to Will’s art show. You can keep me locked up all you want, after. But, I’m going to support my boyfriend.”
“That’s it,” Ted yelled. “You three are grounded. No more fun time.”
That’s when Karen had had enough. “Okay, enough. Ted, stop it. I am taking my house back.”
“But, Karen-,”
“No, Ted,” she looked him dead in the eyes. “I don’t like curfews, or nailing windows shut or sneaking around. These kids are perfectly well behaved. So, what? They smoke a little pot. They get good grades and they’re not in jail. So, give them a break.”
“Karen,” Ted tried again.
“No, you listen to me, bucko,” she screamed. “You are going to go back inside and unnail the windows. And, you are going to let these kids go to Will’s show. And, I’m going to go to Ryan Donahue’s house and get the good dicking you can’t give me. Are we clear?”
Ted nodded, in defeat.
Everyone laughed.
