Fox cackled as he counted up his stack of credits, which was considerably larger than his brothers’.
Again.
They played with Cody as Banker, because he was tired of them all equally, so he tended to be the fairest about it, but even in terms of a thrashing, this game was practically a massacre.
It didn’t bear mentioning how long Fives lasted.
Bly went bankrupt in the first five turns, and no one was quite sure how.
Rex went next, his lack of a poker face doing him in.
Wolfe followed quickly, and everyone agreed that it was probably because he didn’t actually want to play.
It was Echo who held out the longest, but had eventually given way to Fox, losing everything in the space of two turns.
And then they were all left gaping at the victor, with even Cody looking a little surprised.
“How did this even happen?!” Fives whined, “How did you beat us like that without cheating?! I cheated and I STILL lost!”
“Do you know how much running of the Senate I actually sign off on sometimes…all the financial stuff?” Fox smirked, “Learning how to forge signatures and learn how it all worked were my goals from day one. You either learn, or you’re eaten by sharks.”
“…Politicians?”
“Exactly.”
Collecting his winning, Fox got to his feet and nodded at them all, looking more than a little smug, “Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to get back to work.”
Silence.
“…Should we be worried that he’s technically in charge of all the money in this war?” Cody mused.
“Not all of it…just a good chunk I image.” Echo frowned, “Maybe…more than a good chunk?”
“So…he probably knows a little bit about what policies are going through and what aren’t?”
“Possibly?”
For a moment, they were all silent, before scrambling to their feet and giving chase.
