"OH!" Tears welled up in Knockout's optics and it made Breakdown's spark drop. "You've gained mass!"
"Uh, I guess, yeah." If it was possible, his spark sank further. Nothing mattered more to his partner than appearances. "I'll work it off soon as I--"
"No, no!" Knockout stepped closer, reaching up to cup Breakdown's face in his hands and, even after all the recovery, he automatically leaned down to make it easier on the smaller mech. "You've gained mass, because you're finally healthy enough to put it on and keep it. You really are getting better."
"Oh!"
"That matters more than anything else, even if you end up looking like Bulkhead." Knockout stroked his thumb carefully along the curve of Breakdown's repaired optic. "I was... lost. Without you."
Breakdown wasn't good at emotions, and he hated it when Knockout cried, but for once he felt confident that he knew what to do this time. He wrapped his arms around his partner and pulled him close, squeezing just enough to leave fine scratches in his top coat that the red mech would squawk over later but wouldn't buff out for days, and whispered, "Love you too, Knock."
The tears finally spilled over Knockout's optic shutters, but for once, they weren't tears of sadness.
