Chapter Text
“VENEER!” Velvet screamed, the smoke stinging her eyes. She was breathing heavily, the thick, black fog invading her lungs.
Flames roared above her, a dance of red, orange, yellow. They were tearing through the city of Mount Rageous. Her home..
“Velvet! We need to get out of here!” The little troll yelled up at her from her shoulder.
“No, Floyd! I need to find my brother!” She waved him off, and continued wandering, dazed, around the streets of Mount Rageous.
“You’re going to lure them right to us!” Floyd glanced behind him, nervously.
She choked back a sob, “I don’t care, let them come. I need to see my brother.”
Floyd sighed, “Velvet.. y’know there’s a chance he could be-“
“NO! He can’t be!” She screamed, “He can’t be..” She repeated, just a mere whisper.
She looked down at the small troll on her shoulder, “You should go. There’s too many of them here. Find somebody else to protect you.” She said, trying to keep her voice monotone.
Floyd considered this, but shook his head, “We’ve gotten this far.”
Velvet gave him a weak smile, before looking up at the sky, clouded with smoke. They said twin’s could read each other’s minds, that they were connected. It was true, she convinced herself. She could still feel Veneer.
He was alive, somewhere in this burning city.
Whether or not he was still sane, still in touch, still.. healthy, well that was a different question.
She’d already lost Orchid, already lost the three trolls that entrusted her with their lives. Only Floyd remained from their little group, and he was holding a hand up to a bloody stump. He could bleed out, or get dirt it in or something..
She had failed. Now all she had left was her brother.
She needed to find him, please.
Pop Village is now the only safe haven.
Mount Rageous has fallen.
