Reki slumps in a chair in the emergency room, cradling his injured hand to his chest; his fingers are almost certainly broken and hurt so badly that he wants to cry, but Reki holds back the tears. Langa sits beside him, an arm wrapped protectively around his shoulders, and he keeps telling Reki that everything will be okay like he doesn’t know what else to say.
When Reki lets out a little whimper, the pain making nausea swirl in his guts, Langa holds him tighter and presses a gentle kiss to Reki’s clammy cheek—and Reki knows it’s nonsense, but the kiss really does make him feel a little better.
