From Eden

Summary:

Babe
There's something broken about this
But I might be hoping about this
Oh, what a sin

Work Text:

Lilith spins the little jasmine flowers between her fingers, examining the pure white petals, soft to the touch, punctuated only by the little yellow bulbs of pollen in the middle. The strong sweet scent wafts with every little spin, and here under the willow, she feels content to lay in the dappled sunlight, the grass soft underneath her body. There are a few birds singing to each other in the branches, and drifting on the pond, a mother duck and her babies are learning to swim together. It makes for a cute sight; she wonders if Lucifer will be excited to see the ducklings out and about today.

Rolling onto her back, Lilith stares up at the hanging branches of the willow, the white fluffy clouds rolling through the lovely blue sky, and all she can think about is Lucifer. The angel is always so sweet to her, bringing her little gifts, doing tricks to make her laugh. He can sit and listen to her talk for hours, and likewise, she loves to listen to his tales of Heaven and the galaxies just beyond the sky that she can currently see. He tells her of the planets that are forming still, of the stars that streak through the universe, the supernovas and nebulas beyond her comprehension. He tells her of his dreams for humanity, of the things they could accomplish, if only Heaven would allow it.

He's nothing like Adam, the brute that he is. Adam, who's always so crude, grabbing at her when she doesn't want to be touched, mocking her when she gets upset. They argue more often than not, and she always finds her way back here, to this special place...to Lucifer and his kind smile and his sweet golden blush, and his soft lips and gentle hands.

"Lilith?"

She looks up to see Lucifer as he wanders in. He looks the same as he always does, his blond hair styled just so, the white and golden robes that he wears. He's so small, and yet, he's just perfect, and just seeing him brings a smile to her face. "Lucifer!"

He's as delighted to see her, and he hops closer as she finally sits up to receive him. "I bring you a new gift," he says, quite proudly. "Something I know you haven't had before."

Her eyebrows rise. "Oh?"

From his pocket, he holds out a small slightly pink and orange looking fruit. Curious, she takes it into her hands, surprised to find it covered in a sort of fuzzy texture that's not entirely unpleasant to feel. "What is it called?" she inquires.

"The Angelic Council has decided to call it a peach," Lucifer informs her. "It's grown on a tree, like many fruits, and it comes from a rather lovely flower. They think they want to grow it further east than this, in case the Garden needs to expand, but I managed to snag this one just for you." He sits down beside her, crossing his legs. "When you eat it, take a bite, and then tilt your head back to let the juices slide down your throat. It's quite an experience!"

Excited now, Lilith obeys, biting into the soft flesh of the fruit before tilting her head back. Some of the juice begins to slide, as promised, but when she bites a little harder, the sudden gush almost catches her off guard. The sweetness is like an explosion of flavor on her tongue, and she drinks it eagerly, before pulling the peach from her mouth, licking her lips. "It's wonderful!" she declares. "I think this may be one of my favorite fruits of all. Thank you Lucifer."

He beams, pleased. "You're very welcome! I know you like sweet things."

She smirks then, reaching to give his cheek a little pinch. "Like you?"

Lucifer blushes so brightly he's almost glowing, and he lets out a soft huff of laughter. "Ah... I guess so!"

He really is so sweet. Unable to hold in her impulsive thoughts, Lilith leans in to softly kiss his lips, and he kisses her back. The tang of the peach is traded when their tongues meet for a few moments, before she pulls back and he chases after her for a second before letting the kiss break. As always, he looks a little dazed, happily so, before she touches the collar of his robes and he blinks. "Is everything okay?"

"Why do you wear these?" she asks.

"Oh, well... If I didn't then I'd be naked."

"Naked?"

He blushes a little harder. "You know... Unclothed. As you and Adam are. It would be improper for me to be naked, for any of the angels to be naked."

Improper? Lilith blinks before looking down at herself. She is quite tall, with long slender legs, and her hips stand out a little, as well as her breasts. Her skin is pale and unmarked, save for the callouses at the bottom of her feet from walking barefoot everywhere. She's never given her nakedness any thoughts before, and now suddenly, she's wondering if she should. "Should I also be clothed?"

"It's your decision," Lucifer assures her, as he always does. "Adam seems happy as he is."

She rolls her eyes a little. "Adam is happy doing whatever he wants," she grouses, before taking another bite out of the peach. Some of the juices have drained already, so it's mainly the fruit itself that she chews, and they sit in silence for a long while. Lucifer always seems to feel awkward or quiet whenever Adam is brought up, and Lilith is unsure as to why. Maybe they don't get along; she finds it difficult to believe that Adam could get along with anyone, much less the angels. He always declared that the angels had given him a glorious purpose, to be the Father of Mankind, but considering that Lilith has yet to fall pregnant, she wonders if he is failing, and then -- feeling rather petty -- she hopes he fails. What do the angels know, anyway?

Slowly, her eyes wander back to Lucifer, who has his face tilted up towards the sunlight, his eyes faraway. After a moment, Lilith sets the peach down. "Do the angels have wings?"

He looks back at her, startled. "Of course."

"Then why have I never seen yours?"

"Oh!" Lucifer blinks. "Well...you've never asked. Would you like to see them?"

She nods, and then she gasps quietly when his obliges; his wings, all six of them, materialize and unfold, expanding so that she can see the beautiful white and pink colored feathers edge with gold. They're powerful looking, as strong as a hawk's, maybe even more so, and they shimmer in the sunlight in a way she can't accurate describe. As he lowers them so she can see them better, she's utterly entranced, one of her hands reaching to touch one before she stops herself. "Oh, could I...?"

"Maybe not right now," Lucifer says apologetically. "They're quite sensitive. We're not allowed to touch each other's wings, in case they get damaged." Then, as if in afterthought, he reaches for his bottommost wing, his nimble fingers grasping and plucking one of the beautiful white feathers with a sharp intake of breath through his teeth. Then, he holds it out to her. "But you can have this. Another gift."

Lilith accepts it reverently. It's warm, like holding a gentle fire in her hands without burning herself, and when she holds it up to the sun, she can see shades of silver alongside the golden shimmer in the whiteness. Then, unable to help herself, she brings it to her cheek, smiling at the softness and closing her eyes as she allows herself to experience this new feeling, before she looks back to Lucifer. "Thank you."

"You're welcome," he says back, smiling a little. "I like making you happy."

"You make me happy," she replies. "Just by being you, being here, with me." And when he blushes again, she giggles before reaching to grasp his collar, pulling him in for another kiss, that leads to another, and then quite a few more, until they're snuggled up together under the willow tree, letting time pass. So long as she was with Lucifer, then Lilith felt like she had a real chance of being seen, heard...loved.
