Work Text:
Since the dawn of time, humanity has depended on the Earth’s biosphere and natural resources to survive. Humanity has conquered every continent except Antarctica, from harvesting crops to domesticating wild animals. However, from plastic pollution to deforestation, humanity has negatively impacted the planet’s environment.
The current biosphere of Earth is very unsustainable, and along with a changing climate, it is causing a potential mass extinction of life on this planet.
Meanwhile, somewhere outside Earth, a space probe is seen moving through the vast space near the solar system and heading towards Earth.
Inside the space probe is a primarily white pill-shaped robot with wheels for locomotion, with its green LED eyes closed, indicating that the robot is inactive.
During the robot’s slumber, the space probe was going toward somewhere in the Americas, possibly in the Amazon rainforest, since its ecosystem is 75% destroyed by humans.
A few hours later, after the space probe landed somewhere in the Amazon rainforest, its entrance opened automatically to show what it revealed: the robot became active before rolling down the entrance slide to the ground.
The robot’s name is demonstrated to be T3-RRA, as the name is written vertically on its back, and has knowledge about the Earth’s biosphere and how humans impact the environment.
The robot started to look across the rainforest until it spotted a nearby indigenous tribe that it detected, so the robot decided to visit the tribe. Struggling to pass through the large leaves and bushes, T3-RRA witnessed a tribe near a river with a community of a dozen individuals, possibly belonging to the Yanomami people, as T3-RRA said in a robotic voice, “Oh! There they are! Maybe I should talk to them.”
So T3-RRA decided to interact with the tribe, coming towards one of the individuals of the tribe, who is a six-year-old boy with black and red face paint and usually wearing a red loincloth. The little boy suddenly looks at the robot in the blink of an eye as T3-RRA introduces itself and asks his name.
“Hello. I’m T3-RRA. I’m a robot created by a mysterious, intelligent species outside of the solar system, and I know about the Earth and its life inhabiting it. So what’s your name, human?”
“Well, my name is Jose. Nice to meet you!” Jose answers the robot as he shakes its hand, giggling, indicating a bonding relationship between humans (especially children) and robots.
T3-RRA holds Jose by the waist and immediately hugs him tightly as he hugs it back before they both let off each other. “I can’t believe that we just hugged! Awesome!” Jose excitedly said to T3-RRA as he gave it a high-five, and they both laughed.
At this moment, Jose suddenly heard something from a distance across the river, and T3-RRA also noticed it. It was a lumberjack who was using a chainsaw to chop down one of the trees of this tropical rainforest.
“Did you see that, little boy?” T3-RRA asked Jose as it put its mechanical three-fingered hand onto his shoulder. “Yes?” Jose replied.
“It was an invader in your natural home who is trying to destroy your precious plant life, and we need to stop him before he can chop down more trees!” T3-RRA told Jose after both noticing the greedy lumberjack trying to convert rainforest areas into cattle pastures and chopped down trees into paper. So Jose hops on T3-RRA, and they jump over the river while Jose’s family and friends are all surprised. After they got to the other side of the river, Jose got off of T3-RRA, and they both sneaked after the greedy man trying to cut down one of the trees.
“Hey, who are you, and why are you cutting the trees down?” T3-RRA asked the man.
“Because I wanted to convert this area into a cattle pasture, we can make trees into furniture and paper, especially toilet paper. I don’t care if you conserve the Amazon rainforest. We will just turn the entire rainforest into a vast factory farm in the future or so.” The man explained to the robot and the indigenous young boy.
“But aren’t you the ones who are trying to destroy my homeland?” Jose nervously asked the man.
“Yes, and I will ask my friend to kill your family, including you. No exceptions.” The man replied to Jose as he suddenly screamed and partially hid behind T3-RRA.
T3-RRA’s LED parts slowly turned red, and its hands formed clenched fists as it became angry before grabbing the man’s shirt with one hand as the man’s chainsaw dropped.
“WHAT?! ARE YOUR FRIEND IS GOING TO KILL JOSE AND HIS COMMUNITY? THAT’S NOT NICE AT ALL. TIME FOR YOUR PUNISHMENT!!” T3-RRA yelled at the man in a furious, robotic voice. The robot’s left hand transformed into a cannon before releasing a plasma beam directly at the man.
“What are you doing?!” the man muttered.
“I’m getting rid of you for good because you just said that your friend wants to commit mass murder on my friend and his community. Goodbye.” T3-RRA responded to the man before the plasma shot him away, causing him to scream in pain and launch out into the blue sky.
“I think we did it! No more of this bad guy from now on. Is that right, kid?” T3-RRA talked to Jose as he got in front of it.
“Yes, I think you defeated that evil man for cutting down our precious trees,” Jose replied to the robot.
“So, perhaps we should wander through the rainforest further?” T3-RRA questioned the Indigenous boy.
Jose replied, “Sure thing!” before the two wandered further into the Amazon rainforest.
As T3-RRA and its young human friend Jose wandered through the lush jungle, they saw colorful macaws, howler monkeys, toucans, and even a jaguar sleeping in the trees on their way through, and even one of the macaws attracted the robot as it flew onto the top of its head as the macaw looked at the robot’s green LED eyes indicating that T3-RRA also knows Earth’s animals and their behavior.
“Oh hey silly bird, watcha doing?” it asked the macaw, but the macaw duplicated the sentence the robot said. “Woah, did you talk?” T3-RRA spoke to the bird as it squawked before the macaw flew away.
T3-RRA and Jose are amazed by the animals that inhabit the Amazon, as they care about animals on this very planet, even though T3-RRA used to be built by an unknown intelligent alien species. The two continued to stroll until they emerged from the lush greens; they saw a deserted area with only a few trees and stumps.
“Why did this area have all its beautiful trees…gone?” T3-RRA thought to itself while Jose started to sob. The robot suddenly looks at its young human friend as he cries. It asked him, “What’s wrong, little friend?”
“I don't…see…any trees in this…*sniff* area at all…” Jose replied to T3-RRA as he continued to cry.
“Don’t worry, we could plant some trees in this area so that the animals will roam there soon,” T3-RRA said to Jose as it put its hand on the boy’s shoulder.
Jose stopped crying as he replied, “Really?” with his eyebrows raised and his mouth slowly turning into a smile. T3-RRA replied with “Yes.” before opening its collection located on its midsection, grabbing the tree saplings, and carefully planting each one into the soil.
“And now, we have just to wait.” T3-RRA simply said to Jose as the robot let the indigenous boy back to his home. As the days passed, the rain drizzled onto the soil, causing the saplings to grow relatively slowly, and other plants started to appear along with the growing trees. Now, animals are moving into this new flourishing area of lush green land.
A decade later, Jose is 16 years old, along with his still-working robot friend, as he looks at the newly recovered patch of rainforest that took ten years to grow.
“Wow, look at this new beautiful rainforest that has recovered in a decade or so!” Jose exclaimed to the robot.
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” T3-ERRA replied to Jose before he said, “Yeah.”
The now-teenage indigenous boy and his robot friend both laughed at each other as they gazed at the lush and colorful habitat filled with wildlife, and that’s why humanity shouldn’t hurt the Earth and its environment in the first place.
