Chapter Text
Gravesfield Public Library wasn't exactly stacked the best in terms of budget, small town library that it was. In fact, the most modern tech it had was basic Desktops with Windows XP installed. But despite this, Camila liked it, as it was small, quiet, and they still had a full collection of Cosmic Frontier novels that she read when feeling adventurous. It was the perfect place to just spend a day relaxing and reading until life came a'knocking.
As she was picking up her books for another weekend of cosmic adventures, she reached out for Volume 1 of the Curg Saga. But just then, another hand touched hers and she looked up, seeing that the owner of the hand was a Woman. And that was a Woman with Capital W, because Camila had never seen someone so big and tall in her life. Even with the loose clothing, she could see very defined muscle under that sweater. Though quite obviously strong (very strong from the looks of it), whatever intimidation she felt diminished when the woman's expression became apologetic and a bit embarrassed.
"Sorry!" The woman retracted from the library stand, "I was looking for a new series to read and a friend of mine recommended this one, but I see you're picking them all up."
Feeling a blush come to her face, Camila laughed awkwardly, the weight of the books in her arms shifting, "Hahaha, sorry! I've always been a fan of these and I wanted to binge them again this weekend."
"Totally understand. I've had several weekends like that where it's just me and my books all day," She said with a similar laugh, "I've never been too much into sci-fi, but I had this friend of mine who's a fan of the show. So, when he told me there were books about it, I decided to give them a try."
This woman was, in Camila's opinion, very charming. She felt a bit bad about hogging all the books for herself, certain that she was the only one in town who read this series. Meeting another possible fan wasn't something she experienced every day, so maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea to keep this going? Smiling shyly at the mystery woman, Camila said, "I… well, there's a cafe not long from here so if you want to we could go there and read the books in peace…"
The woman gave a charming smile and replied, "I would love that very much, thank you."
From there, it was a simple matter of taking out the books and going to the cafe together. The whole thing felt like something out of a movie, meeting after reaching for the same book in the library and going to a coffee shop to just talk about random things.
They talked about their coworkers...
"Oh, and Bruce is a good person, but he's kind of a jerk. Even when you're trying to be friends with him."
"Ron's the same way. I once caught him trying to steal my lunch!"
About their lost ones…
"His name was Manny, he was…well, he was a firefighter," Camila took a sip of her coffee, "I always worried a fire would take him, but I never expected something worse."
"His name was Steve, Steve Trevor. He was practically the first man I ever met…" The woman smiled in remembrance, "He was in the military."
And their loved ones…
"Luz just does the silliest things sometimes! She's out there grabbing snake skins and pretending to be a wolf and all!"
"She sounds adorable! I don't have kids myself, but I have a lot of sisters. It gets difficult to keep track of some of them."
They were both women who tried their best for those they loved, and finding someone who was going through the same thing was so relaxing in retrospect. As they both made their way through the exit, Diana said, "I'm not around all the time. I'm often traveling around the world, but if I come by here again, can I call you?"
"Asking for my number on the first date? How scandalous!" Camila joked as she wrote it on the receipt they'd gotten for their coffee, "I'd be glad to see you again…uh…"
Realizing she hadn't given her name, the giant of a woman gave her a smile as she accepted the number on the receipt…
"Diana. My name is Diana Prince."
