Work Text:
The door closes behind Tommy, and Buck stares at it, still frozen in place.
He’s not sure how long he stands there, but he finally moves when he feels his phone buzz in his pocket. Pulling it out, he glances at the screen, and can’t help but the soft smile when he sees it’s Tommy.
11:05 PM
See you on Saturday :)
He stares at the text, the smile growing bigger on his face as the memory of Tommy’s fingers tilting his chin and soft lips pressing against his plays on his skin.
His heart is still pounding in his ears, but it’s softer now, and he can begin to hear his thoughts again. He takes a moment before responding, and then another when he realizes that he has no idea what he’s supposed to say. He knows how to respond when girls text him, the flirting has always come natural to him, but this is uncharted territory and he doesn’t want to mess it up.
So he follows his instincts and does what he always does when he needs help; he calls Eddie. The phone rings twice and panic pulls Buck back into his body - he can’t tell Eddie about this, or maybe he doesn’t want to. But before he can hang up, Eddie answers, a slightly slurred “h’lo” interrupting Buck’s spiral.
“Uh, hey Eds. I uh, I just wanted to see how you’re doing.”
Eddie snorts, loud and unbothered, “my ankle’s busted, but they gave me the good stuff. I feel like I’m flying. Hey, Tommy can fly too!”
Buck’s cheeks feel hot with the mention of Tommy, but he laughs anyway. Eddie’s voice calms the butterflies in his stomach and the tightness in his chest like it always does.
“So you’re not in pain, then?”
“Nope.” Eddie says, popping the ‘p’ “Just gotta keep my foot elevatored and I’ll be good as new in no time”
“You mean elevated?”
“That’s what I said.” Eddie whines. He sniffs, and then “Can you bring me an ice pack? I think the one I’m using melted.”
“Uh, Eddie, I’m not at your hou—”
“Actually, I’m not even using an ice pack.” Eddie interrupts him, “It’s a bag of frozen peas. Who the fu— why do I have frozen peas in my bed, Buck?”
“Probably because you need ice for the swelling, and Chris lost the ice pack last time we went to the zoo.”
Eddie hums through a yawn as he shuffles around his sheets.
“Come to bed, Buck.” Eddie tells him, his voice quiet and laced with sleep
“I’m at home, Eddie.”
“No you’re not. You told me you weren't. It’s why I have frozen peas in my bed and why I haven’t spoken to you since Thursday.”
“Eddie, what—”
“You’ve been all weird for a while. I wish you’d talk to me. We’re partners, man.”
Eddie yawns before Buck can formulate an answer.
“Maybe you and Tommy should hang out. Get to know each other better.”
Buck chokes on air, almost dropping his phone as he coughs.
“He’s a cool guy. He can fly, Buck. Flying is cool.”
Eddie is slurring his words at this point, and despite Buck’s shock, he laughs. Then, he lowers his voice, speaking softly so he doesn’t bother Eddie.
“Go to sleep, Eds. We’ll talk tomorrow, ok?”
“Will we? Ok, talk tomorrow. Love you.”
The call ends, and Buck stares at his phone, trying to process the events of the last 45 minutes.
Tommy kissed him, and he liked it.
Tommy asked him out, and now they’re going on a date.
Tommy told Buck to call Eddie
Eddie asked Buck to come home, and he meant the Diaz house.
Eddie said that Buck and Tommy should hang out.
Eddie told Buck he loves him.
Tommy. Eddie. Tommy. Eddie.
He’s frozen in place until he feels the phone buzz in his hand. He looks down and grins at the notification.
