Work Text:
It had been a long time since Shinya was so eager to return home.
The last case he resolved for the day dragged on for hours after the threat was neutralized. He suspected some of the other heroes and officers involved were not doing their best, which explained why things took so long to finish. He was considering reporting one of the officers for his poor behavior once he could think coherently enough to write a report.
He was so tired and late that he texted Tsunagu once he got on the train, telling him that he would pick something up for dinner. He had food at home ready to be reheated, but he was struggling not to fall asleep on the train and knew that even basic cooking would be torturous. Tsunagu had told him he had already eaten, so he only had to worry about himself.
It took about thirty minutes to reach the city they lived in outside of Tokyo. It was large but small compared to the metropolis they worked in. It was much more peaceful and homely for them both, which was why they chose it to be their home when they outgrew their first apartment a few years ago.
He stopped at a fast food restaurant on the way home, ordering something he could eat while walking. He had changed into casual clothing, so he was not worried about being spotted by fans.
By the time he arrived on his street, he decided that he was not a fan of the restaurant. The food was too bland for his liking, but he managed to force it down. He was able to toss the trash in a can about five minutes before their house appeared in the distance.
Once he walked to their front door, he used his quirk to enter. Their security system specifically recognized his quirk usage, so it did not go off despite him technically breaking in.
He could only see some light from the genkan once he was inside. He took off his shoes and stepped into the house properly after putting them away in the shoe closet. He did not announce himself, as he expected Tsunagu to be in bed.
To his surprise, he saw Tsunagu a moment later, sleeping on the couch in a sitting position. He had changed into a sweater and a different pair of jeans, but that was not an outfit he would sleep in. His legs were also curled in an uncomfortable position and he knew that if he did not stretch them soon that he would wake up sore.
What had happened was obvious and it was adorable.
His hair was somehow still neat and there were the lightest hint of circles under his eyes. His gorgeous features were fully exposed and he looked so peaceful that Shinya could not help but smile as he approached.
Tsunagu could have gone to sleep without him, but here he was, faithfully waiting. They had not seen each other since breakfast and Shinya had been sad about it all evening. But he had tried to stay up for him and that filled Shinya’s very being with pure love and yearning.
He carefully reached out, resting his hand on Tsunagu’s head. Unable to stop himself, he pushed his bangs back and kissed his exposed forehead.
Tsunagu shuffled slightly but did not seem to be aware of the touching. It was a surprise to Shinya, who knew how light Tsunagu slept at times.
“You must have been exhausted,” Shinya whispered, reaching with his other hand to cup Tsunagu’s cheek. “I apologize for keeping you up.”
He kissed him one more time on the lips, which still tasted like vanilla. Tsunagu’s eyes opened slightly, but he did not seem to recognize his surroundings before they closed again.
Now, Shinya had to get Tsunagu into bed. He would ache all over in the morning if he slept like this and he hoped he could be quiet while moving him.
It was easier than one might think to gather him in his arms, even with the height difference. It was easy because he was stronger than him and used to carrying civilians of all sizes to safety. Some might find it awkward for a shorter man to bridal carry a tall man, but Shinya did not care about those people.
He was quick to carry him to their bedroom, using his quirk on his little finger to wrap around the knob and pull it open.
Once inside, he closed the door with his shoulder. It was a bit too loud and for a moment, he thought he felt Tsunagu move in his arms. He stood silently and counted to five and once he did not move again, he carefully laid him in their bed after uncovering his side.
Knowing not even he would sleep in jeans, Shinya quickly unbuttoned them and pulled them off. He did not want to risk nearly waking him up again, so he covered him back up so he would not get cold.
He watched for a moment before walking over to one of their dressers and quickly slipping out of his clothing. He was too tired for a shower and decided to put on one of the yukatas he wore for sleep. He closed it and went to tie it around his-
“Putting on a show for me?”
Shinya nearly dropped the belt as he turned around, only to see a very tired but also very awake Tsunagu lying with his head propped up with one of his hands. And despite his deliberate wording, his face was completely neutral.
“I-“ Shinya stammered as he felt a blush growing across his cheeks. “How long have you been awake?”
“You shut the door too hard,” Tsunagu replied, sitting up properly. “And I could not allow myself to go back to sleep without seeing you.”
Shinya felt a warmth within his chest at those words. Tying the yukata was now the last thing on his mind as he walked over to Tsunagu, crawling over the bed to wrap him in a hug. The hug was quickly returned and Shinya sighed, some of the leftover tension from the day leaving him.
“Sorry about waking you,” he whispered.
“Don’t be,” Tsunagu responded just as quietly. “I’ll always be willing to see you, no matter how tired I am.”
Shinya sighed tiredly. “Let’s go to sleep now. I’m exhausted.”
Tsunagu made a noise of agreement as they broke away. He eyed his belt and before Shinya could ask why, he felt it being removed from his hand by an invisible power and threaded around his robe. In less than a second, his clothing was on properly.
“There,” Tsunagu said, sounding pleased with his work. “Now I just have to do one more thing before we can go to sleep.”
“Oh? And what would that-“ Shinya was cut off by Tsunagu pulling him forward into a deep kiss. He quickly returned it and leaned into it and the hand that also rested on his cheek.
They broke away once the need for air could no longer be ignored. Shinya inhaled deeply, reaching up to keep Tsunagu’s hand where it was.
“I’m so glad I really got to see you tonight,” he whispered.
Tsunagu smiled at him. “So am I, my little crane.”
The image of Tsunagu waiting for him still brought him great joy. He never thought someone would ever wait up for him but he was reminded that his former insecurities had been proved wrong time and time again.
They properly got into bed afterward. Tsunagu’s arms ended up around Shinya, who had his head against Tsunagu’s chest. He could feel his eyelids rapidly becoming more heavy as he got more relaxed.
Right before he would have fell asleep, he felt a light kiss on his temple. And when he opened one eye in question, Tsunagu smoothed down his hair and made a shushing sound.
“Just returning the favor,” he whispered. “I thought I was dreaming, but you sneaked in some kisses earlier, right?”
Shinya mumbled a response but was too tired to try again when he realized it was unintelligible. He was quickly falling asleep and he felt one more kiss before his world went black.
It was only fair that Tsunagu got to kiss him while sleeping too, so he had no complaints.
