What brings everyone here?
submitted 22 days ago by TheHorribleOne
Captain Hammer is surprisingly popular, and yet there's a couple hundred of us who joined the /r/CaptainHammerHate subreddit specifically to complain about him. We all have our reasons - mine is that he's a massive bully, but what's yours?

He bought a small plane he calls the 'Ham jet' (what a loser) and flies it way too low in residential areas, early in the morning and late at night. I can barely sleep a wink! I've half a mind to stand outside his house banging a pot, see how he likes it!

Yes, you're right. Someone really should teach him a lesson he won't forget.

He stepped on my dog's tail and wouldn't apologise, said it was the dog's fault for not looking where she was going. I couldn't believe a hero would do something like that.

TIL about wonderflonium, named entirely as a marketing gimmick but actually pretty neat, it turns out
submitted 19 days ago by TheHorribleOne
Wonderflonium was discovered in the 70s. It’s metallic-looking but not actually a metal, wet-looking but repels water, and very brittle but can be reformed just by pressing it together. Because it’s so unusual it’s not really useful for anything, so the guy who discovered it (Frederic Grun, a research chemist at ACMEcorp) decided to at least give it an interesting name in the hopes it would sell better (I recommend his autobiography, it's fascinating reading).
But now that we’ve got a couple decades more research done, it actually has a bunch of uses in laboratory work! It’s hydrophobic but it also messes with hydrodynamics in a way that’s fascinating in its own right. I'm hoping to do some playing around of my own if I can get my hands on a sample sometime, though for the moment all my plans are still theoretical.

Wow, it’s weird running into this in the wild. I wrote a paper about wonderflonium when I was at college (and got a 93, thanks Prof Kun!). The hydrodynamic changes are similar to what you’d get if you modelled the effect as time dilation, which is freaky enough it’s a popular topic for undergrads.

My undergrad didn’t cover it unfortunately, or I’d have been investigating it already. It’s the time dilation that got me interested in it in the first place! It seems possible that it’s actually having an effect on the subjective flow of time, I don’t know if that’s something you looked into?

I doubt it, but I don’t think it’s been definitely disproven? If it were plausible or possible someone would have done it by now, though, wonderflonium’s been around for long enough.

Out of the two of us I've almost certainly handled the stuff more than you, so I've no idea why you're sounding so confident. Maybe get wonderflonium's dick out of your mouth and you'll be able to talk some sense.

You're a delivery driver, not a scientist. If someone put a brain in your van you wouldn't be a neurosurgeon - hell, if someone put a neurosurgeon's brain in your head you still wouldn't be a neurosurgeon. Just focus on which pedal makes the car go fast and which makes it stop, that's clearly already a struggle for you.
Anyway, my original point (which you haven't actually addressed at any point) still stands. The fluid dynamics change in a way that's extremely obvious to someone who knows what they're looking for. As the water and the wonderflonium come closer, the effects on the water increase. There's an asymptote where it would touch the material, which is why wonderflonium is hydrophobic, but if that barrier were crossed somehow, in theory it would freeze the water in place. People are largely made up of water, so the possibilities are incredibly versatile -- replacing anaesthesia for surgery, cryogenics, nonlethal subduing of animals. You can google any of those words that are too tricky for you.

You're a condescending asshole but you're really not that smart. How do you plan to reach the asymptote when it's hydrophobic? Maybe go back to doing some Grade 3 math before you run your mouth.

Help with rhyming and metre
submitted 15 days ago by TheHorribleOne
I'm writing some original music and really struggling to get the lyrics to fit for this one verse in particular. It's for a girl (eventually, once I'm ready to show it to her) and it needs to be perfect. Anyone have any advice?
I'll be the guy to make it all real/Even the feelings you don't dare to feel/The world will obey our will/Even time will stand still
Edit: never mind, I figured it out, no thanks to you lot.

Oh it’s this guy, his old account must have finally got banned. He’s a complete moron who thinks if you get the famously hydrophobic wonderflonium wet, you can travel through time. Take it from someone who regularly has the stuff in his van, it’s a novelty that doesn’t do anything useful and is only ever delivered to university labs for undergrads to play around with.

You’re so stupid it’s amazing you’re able to write, though clearly you can’t read or you’d know how wildly off the mark you are about my theory.

TIFU by letting my delivery van get stolen
submitted 5 minutes ago by courierererer
So yeah, basically the title. I got it back later that day but a supervillain and a superhero (it still feels weird typing those out, we haven't had any in this neck of the woods for decades and now suddenly there's two of them and they hate each other?) had a fight and it's wrecked. Don't wanna post more details in case I dox myself but oh well it's probably too late for that anyway. The delivery was gone of course, it's just some stupid college project and it's covered by the insurance, but my boss really told me off. I'm on thin ice for the next while, and I didn't even see the fight so it's not even a cool story.
Anyway I'm fucking pissed, it feels like this one delivery was cursed because some sweaty nerd kept harassing me about the delivery contents (he can't have known where I am otherwise I'd be kinda suspicious), he thinks it's a time travel machine or something. I think reddit finally IP banned him at least.

You probably deserved it, bro. I'm sure whoever has it now is putting it to much better use.
