Work Text:

Buck was in his apartment quite nervous. After several shifts and looking at how he could fit his schedule with that of his boyfriend, they managed to have a romantic date. He had a date that night with Tommy and wanted everything to be perfect. He looked at his reflection in the mirror, adjusting his hair for the umpteenth time, but nothing seemed to calm the nerves he felt. In a moment of desperation, he decided to call his sister Maddie.

"Hi, Maddie," Buck said when she answered, trying to keep his voice calm.

"Buck! What's wrong? Is everything okay?" Maddie asked, surprised by the unexpected call.

"Yeah, yeah, everything's fine. I just… I have a date tonight and I don't know what to do." Buck admitted, letting out a sigh.

Maddie laughed softly on the other end of the line. "With Tommy?" she asked, although she already knew the answer.

"Yes," Buck replied, blushing slightly. "I want to make it special, but I don't want to ruin it. It's been a while since we've been on a date, and I don't know what to do. I don't usually get that nervous around people I go out with. Any advice?"

Maddie was silent for a moment, thinking. "Well, Buck, the most important thing is that you be yourself. Tommy already knows you and likes you for who you are. You don't have to impress with big things, just show him what you feel. When I say that I mean don't make plans for the very complicated or extravagant quotes. I think he would love something simple.”

Buck nodded, even though he knew Maddie couldn't see him. "Yes, you're right. But what if I get nervous and say something stupid?"

"That happens on all dates," Maddie responded with a laugh. "The important thing is how you handle those moments. If you feel uncomfortable, just take a deep breath and move on. And remember, the little things are what matter the most. Besides, I'm sure you've said something stupid on dates and Tommy really likes you."

Buck smiled, feeling a little more relaxed. "Thank you, Maddie. I don't know what he would do without you."

" Now, go and enjoy your night. And don't forget to tell me everything afterwards! You know I want to know."

-

After a tiring day at work, Buck and Tommy met at a small cafe-restaurant tucked away on a quiet street. It was his secret place, away from the noise and chaos that could be at the date. Maybe this time their date was not interrupted by people they knew.

“How did you come up with this place?” Tommy asked.

“Maybe I did some research on places that had coffee the way you like and the food you like.”

“So you know how I like it…”

"Of course."

They ordered some food along with the drink and sat down.

Buck smiled as he looked at Tommy from across the table. "You know, I never thought I'd find someone like you in the middle of my work." he said.

Tommy looked up from his coffee cup and saucer and smiled back. "Someone like me? What do you mean?" he asked.

"Someone who understands what it means to be in the line of fire, who isn't afraid to take risks, but who also knows when it's time to rest and enjoy the little moments like this in this cafe." Buck responded, taking Tommy's hand across the table. "Someone who complements me."

Tommy gently squeezed Buck's hand, feeling a deep connection. "Buck, you make me want to be better every day. I've never felt this before." he confessed.

Buck leaned a little closer, whispering. "So, how about we take a break from all this and just enjoy each other's company? Because when I'm with you, everything seems easier."

Tommy nodded, his eyes reflecting the dim light of the cafe. "Sounds perfect to me. Tonight, it's just ours."

They shared a soft laugh and continued talking, getting lost in each other's eyes. The outside world slowly disappeared, leaving them in their little corner of peace.

The cafe was adorned with dim lights giving a warm and cozy atmosphere. The walls were decorated with black and white photographs of the city, and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air. It was the perfect place to escape, even if it was just for a few hours.

"I remember the first time I saw you and we talked." Tommy said, breaking the comfortable silence that had settled between them. "That's when I decided that at some point I had to ask you out on a date.

"Really? I thought he was just trying not to screw up in front of everyone." He admitted.

"Well, you did very well," Tommy replied, stroking Buck's hand with his thumb. "Ever since then, I knew I liked you, Evan."

Buck looked at Tommy, feeling a warmth in his chest. "And I knew I wanted to get to know you more. Every day at the station, every emergency call, I realized that I wanted to spend more time with you and that sometimes I hoped that 217 had to be on the call."

Tommy smiled "And here we are, in this cafe, far from everything."

Buck nodded, feeling the same deep connection. "Yes, here we are."

After finishing their coffees and food, they decided to go for a walk. The night was cool, and the streets were quiet. They walked close, their hands brushing occasionally, enjoying each other's presence.

"Do you mind if we make a quick stop?" Buck asked, pointing to a small park around the corner.

Tommy shook his head. "Not at all. I would love to."

The park was almost deserted, except for a couple of people walking their dogs. They found a bench under a large tree and sat down.

Buck looked up at the starry sky.

Tommy followed his gaze and smiled.

Buck turned to Tommy, his expression serious but filled with tenderness. "Tommy, I want you to know that you mean a lot to me. I've been wanting to say that I care for you for a long time."

Tommy felt a wave of emotions and grabbed Buck's hand, squeezing it tightly. "You mean a lot to me too, Evan."

Buck smiled and leaned in, their lips meeting in a soft, deep kiss.
