Work Text:
Dave lazily switched through the security cameras for the Manor again, taking a sip of coffee. He knew that nothing could even get onto the grounds if Dark didn’t let it in, but there were a few egos that didn’t live at the manor who could visit at any moment.
He suppressed a yawn, switching to the deck camera. He was surprised to find one of the chairs occupied. Looking closer, he saw the Convict’s distinctive shaggy head of hair and hunched figure. Dave frowned and checked his watch. It was just past four in the morning, even the Doc was asleep at this point.
Sighing, he got up, making sure to grab the nearby tablet so he could still keep an eye on the cams before heading toward the deck. “Hey there, what’re you doing up so late?”
The Convict startled at his sudden appearance, looking up at him with wide eyes for a moment before shrugging and returning to looking out over the pool.
Dave watched them silently for a minute or so before shrugging himself and sitting down on the chair beside him. “Rough night?”
The Convict looked at Dave then, seemingly studying him before nodding slightly while tilting their hand in a so-so motion.
Dave nodded in acknowledgement. “Yeah, I’ve had my fair share of those too. I’m Dave by the way, dunno if you knew that yet.”
Convict smiled slightly at that and waved his hand a bit in a greeting.
Dave went to take a sip of coffee, only to find that his mug was empty. “Dammit. Hey, I’m gonna grab a refill, you want a cup?” The Convict hesitated before nodding. “Cool, I’ll be right back.”
It didn’t take too long to reheat the coffee that was in the pot. It took longer to find a mug that wasn’t someone else’s signature mug, but he managed to find one. “Here you are. One fresh cup o’ joe.”
That brought out a real smile and the Convict happily sipped at their drink, uncurling just a little.
Dave half watched the security feed, half studied his companion. “Hey, I don’t think I ever caught your name.”
The Convict shrugged.
“Do you have a name? I know some of the egos don’t have actual name-names.” That had been something to get used to.
The Convict shrugged again, turning back towards the silent pool.
“Mind if I give you a nickname? ‘The Convict’ seems kinda harsh.” At the other’s nod, Dave smiled. “How about Vic? Could even be lengthened to Vicky if you want.”
At this the Convict gently set aside his coffee to pull out the small notepad and pencil they kept in the pocket of their coveralls. Dave waited as they wrote something down, blinking at the writing before smiling as he read it.
Hello Dave, my name is Vic.
