Before The Lost Was Noticed
Arthur was for some reason shouting at the knights of the round table for some reason or another. The only guess that some of the strongest knights was that he hadn't had his daily dose of Merlin to help him so they went to Gauss's chambers to retrieve the manservant for the King. Turns out he was not there.
All there was left was a note.
I am off to look for herbs for Gauis who is in the lower town. Because God knows Arthur will still be looking for me.
To Whoever Has Come This Time,

The Rules/Protocol To Follow
There were rules for when Merlin went off doing something incredibly stupid. Such as,
- Do all costs to make sure that Arthur does not fully put together that Merlin is missing. Sure he noticed to a degree that Merlin was away but not concussion just the part of him that craves Merlins presence has noticed.
- Never take Merlin's word for what in the world he is off doing most likely it is not it and be prepared to casually not notice that Merlin is using magic.
- Merlin cannot be harmed in the process because then the King will surely notice something has happened and the knights will all get in trouble.
- The entire castle must be made aware of his absence and help Leon with keeping the King as busy as possible. Like bringing up meetings that have been long overdue that Yes sir need to be done right away.
- Pray that Merlin returns not injured so help Camelot and its people that work for that castle will hear the pure wrath of the king.
Keeping the King Busy
So with all of this in mind, considering that Merlin went off to go get herbs for Gaius all of the knights of the Round table were off except for Leon. Leon while staying back will say that the knights are all off at training because of something they did. Then Leon will pull out the most tedious of work that he has stuck piled just for this occasion and give it all to the King at once and “helping him” with the work when he really is just making sure that Arthur does not realize what is happening and stays busy.
All of the servants have been made aware and are ready to all come in and do Merlins chores/duties while the King is gone so he does not fully notice Merlins absence.
While a few are helping prepare the rest of the knights of the Round Table to go search for Camlots dearest servant.
Off On The Search
Gwaine and Lancelot are the heads of two different groups that will be totally not searching for Merlin just out on an extra patrol since both are the closest to Merlin that is not their King and trusts them the most. Elyan and Percival both go with one of the other, Elyan with Lancelot and Percival with Gwaine because Elyan said that “It was my turn to go with the calm one!” and “Just because you guys traveled a lot before coming here does not mean I don't get my turn! In fact it makes it more important for me to go instead with Lancelot. You had your time.”
They were now on the search. Hopefully to find Merlin safe and sound.
