Love in the Time of Shinobi

Summary:

Sometimes, there's a marriage.

(It's unexpected.)

Notes:

Written as a gift for SilverUtahraptor, greenchair, Lulubelle01, Spennig, Dawen, Elenyafinwe, and KuraKura0_0 who all bounced the idea around with me, this story is my entry for day 5 of HashiMada Week 2024, for the prompt Courting Rituals.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Tobirama

Summary:

Sometimes, you hear something.

(A familiar refrain.)

Chapter Text

Tobirama runs the whetstone over the blade of his kunai, resisting the urge to roll his eyes.

It won't help anyway.

"... and then!" Anija waves his arms wildly, radiating enthusiasm and awe in equal measure. "He nearly took my head off!"

"... please don't tell me anything else." Tobirama can't help wincing. Knowing that Anija's sparring sessions with Madara-sama are the equivalent of sex makes listening to all this rhapsodising even more horribly awkward than before the two of them got married. "I really don't want to know."

But, of course, Anija doesn't stop, instead clasping his hands under his chin and swooning. "With his gunbai! He's so - ! So!"

"Good at fighting, I know." Tobirama sheathes his kunai and pinches the bridge of his nose, sighing. Really, if there's any way he can avoid having this conversation every few days he would love to hear about it. "You've said."

"He's good at everything!" Anija grabs a zabuton and flops down onto it, clearly settling in to recount every last detail. "And then he blew out an enormous ball of fire - it was bigger than me!"

Oh gods.

Tobirama picks up the next kunai in this set and starts sharpening it too.

Though he can't escape, there's no reason to waste his entire afternoon.
